I thought professor coombs was a good teacher. Many people are turned off by his lame chemistry jokes but at least he is trying. He is an old guy that loves chemistry and tries to get everyone else to as well. He gives alot of homework that helps to prepare for the tests. If you have a head for chemistry, this class will be a breeze. If you are willing to work hard, and do all the homework a good grade should be easy to get.

Although Coombs has the most monotone voice, his lectures are very straightforward and short. His tests are mostly calculations and do not require very much deep thinking. I like his tests because they were always on subjects that were covered in lecture, and there are no surprise questions on material that was never covered in class. He is an eccentric man that is pretty laid back but explains the material well and is always willing to help during office hours.

Coombs is a good guy. Hes pretty monotone and a little boring, but he presents course material in a very clear and organized manner. His exam problems are taken almost completely from lecture. There is little use for the book in his class. The nice thing about this is that there are no suprises from him. You KNOW what is going to be on the test, because if it was there in lecture you'll see it again. Id recommend him to anyone.

OK, my first few times going to Dr. Coombs' lectures I completely fell asleep. I found that the only way to stay awake is to take a nap beforehand if possible and then drink something caffenated throughout the lecture. Once I started doing that I actually enjoyed the lecture. The best aspect of his teaching was that he will present the material and then show 5 or 6 examples of how to use it. (Write these examples down, they could show up on an exam) His test are a breeze..EXCEPT, he will take off so many points for any little thing. Make sure you know your sig figs and try not to make any silly mistakes. He is totally unforgiving when it comes to small mistakes. Overall, I would recommend Dr. Coombs. ALSO, he is GREAT for lab. Get him for lab if at all possible. The tests are really easy and it always ends pretty early.

Dr. Coombs is BORING, BORING, BORING! It was a total struggle to stay awake. Unfortunately, there probably isn't much he can do about it since the material covered in the class is equally as boring. His tests are kind of hard and it's not easy to know what's going to be on the tests. Someone in my class had access to old exams and didn't have too much trouble getting an "A" in the class while I struggled to get a "C" without the benefit of old exams. To his credit, Dr. Coombs was more than willing to help you (or confuse you) during his office hours. If you take him for this class, do try to find old exams because they will help you figure out what's important to study for the midterms. Better yet, take Dr. Keeling because he puts old exams in a supplement for sale at 2nd Edition. This will probably be the worst chemistry class you'll ever have to take so you might as well have every advantage on your side.
