Ok, so this class is the worst class required for Business students, but since we have to take it, TAKE CARTER! He is so chill and very straight forward. Unless you're considering a career in Operations, this class flies right over your head, but Carter at least makes it bearable. Everyone recommended to take Grosse for this class, but Carter is 10X better! He gives online quizzes, and a very straight forward study guide to study from. There are only 3 homework assignments, and everything is submitted via blackboard. Assignments are due online by Saturday of the weeks which is really nice if you have too much to do during the week. Carter is by far the best teacher to take for 371...if you must!

Richard is the most boring professor I have ever had. After the first day of class, I really thought it was a joke how he taught the class. But to my surprise, it was no joke. He is the most boring professor I have ever had, I have had more fun in Sunday School. I almost want to go to the Dean's office and inquire about how they could hire someone of his calibur. He seems like a really smart fellow, but he has no teaching skills what so ever!!! Save yourself a headache and do not take this guy. I really hope he reads this and realizes that I am just somoe angry student who is against teachers, but I am an older student who feels that education is important and I really feel that I have not learned one thing in this class.

I get the impression he knows his stuff, he just has no way of communicating it. He just kind of mumbles in the front of the class for a while. Then, when the test comes you get a study guide. You have to do the reading if you want to learn anything. Carter is horrible and from what I hear Grosse is great so take Grosse if you can.

Terrible teacher. Terrible class. This class was the most pointless waste of time ever. Carter is monotone and the class basically reiterates concepts based upon common sense.

Yeah whatever... I think Carter is an awesome teacher. I had him for MIS and Productions. He knows tons of shit in business: IT, stats, operations, every type of software imaginable, management, and even some finance. Plus, his classes are ridiculously EASY. He gives study guides for all his tests which basically tell you the exact page #'s that all the answers are on. It is impossible to get less than a B. He is monotone, but you don't even need to go to class anyway! I like his style of teaching because its right to the point... unlike all these other pre-school professors here. I recommend him for sure.

Carter is a great guy. However, he is a horrible professor. His lectures are frighteningly boring. I don't even know if thats a word but it sure as hell explains his class. His grading is rediculous. The final was online and consisted of reading five boring magazine articles and answering questions. The tests themselves are worth more than the final. The assignments (excel and MS project) are not well explained and are due midnight on saturdays. I don't know about everyone else but I had better things to do on saturday nights and it would help a bunch if they were due during the week sometime. Maybe I'm just lazy but I thought this class was horrible.

what a waste of time this class was, i don't think i learned one thing. Scratch that, I learned how to batch-import text files into excel and add the date automatically. The in class quizzes are very easy if you know how to type "ctrl f" and search for a keyword in an online article. make sure you check your answers, and you'll get at least a 90 on those. The in class assignments are a joke if you do them in class while he shows you how to do them. if you miss that class day, you're a little screwed because the assignments can be tough without the in class instructions. All you have to do, though, is show up to class an hour late to catch the instructions (something i did at least half the time). The tests can be tough at times, but as I said before, if you know how to type in "ctrl f" and search for a keyword, you're golden. I got a 94 on the first test with minimal studying. the second test I literally didn't study for at all, and didn't read at least half the questions on the test; I just did the keyword search with my laptop and received an 82 (not a great grade, but still above average and deserved for how little effort I put into it). I don't want to make Carter out to be too bad of a guy, since he is a nice teacher. If you read the biography on his web-page, you'll be amazed at what a character he is and disappointed that so little of that character comes across in his class; it is quite unfortunate. Take this class if you want a fairly easy A

If you are looking for a class where you do not learn a thing, but still can pass this is it. I missed 2 of the six quizes and one of the six assignments and still bot a "B." his class is cake. Oh yeah if you do not want him to take control of your screen in the lab don't turn it on until after he pushes the button. This way you can do what ever you want while he goeas over the lecture which is posted on blackboard.

This class is such a joke. He just drones on about nothing, which is sad because I think project management skills would be useful to have. I really didn't learn anything, and the tests got progressively harder. It's open book, open note, and open computer. If you fill out the note sheet he gives you before the test, you can just do them pretty easily. The final had some questions on excel and I didn't do as hot on the final, so I got a B+. This class was a waste of time and I can't BELIEVE I didn't get an A. Stupid. Take Grosse if you can.

this class is easy. there are 4 open book/open note/open internet tests. next to each question is the page number that the answer is on in the book. no joke. the assignments involve excel or microsoft database and can be a little hard and time consuming, but if you do them in class he will help you all the way through. i would recommend reading the book before each test or else you might run out of time. This class is a very easy B, if you want an A you should actually pay attention in lecture. also, when he takes over the computers, if you unplug the cord that is in the blackbox under the desk, your computer will not be freed (this will inevitably lead to you getting a B though).

Professor Carter's class is really easy. Just make sure you pay attention to the slides. (he puts test answers on them) It's a really boring class, but an extremely easy "B". If you don't care to know a whole lot and just want to get a good grade, take Carter.

This guy is easy. You wont learn a whole lot, but if you go to class, do the assignments and quizes, and do the study guide before the test, you will get an A. Go through your book and highlight everything that he talks about on the study guide. This will help you during the tests because they are open book, open note, and open computer. Richard is pretty funny when he randomly starts dropping F-bombs in class during one of his stories.

Ok, beyond the fact that this class it a huge waste of time, and an even larger waste of money, and Professor Carter is COMPLETELY useless, lets get some facts down. Assignments are hard if you don't go to the lecture, so just go to the second half so you can see how to do them. Whatever he talks about in class is completely irrelevant, it won't help you, don't listen. Don't buy the book until you go to class, split one book between your group and just share it for the study guides. Put the study guides into a word document and bring them to class with you, use CTRL+F to find the answers on the study guides, pass the class with a SIMPLE B, or an easy A. I didn't get an A because I did bad on two tests because I didn't even bother reading most of the questions. You will go mad listening to him, so try not to.

Very dull lectures and the first half of class can be skipped because of that. Very smart professor who actually knows all the applications by heart. The assignments were tedious but educating and mostly were completed in class anyway. His tests are open note and each question is given a page number to where it could be located in the text. Basically, tests are easy as long as you read all the required areas the night before and highlight them. And read his biography page on blackboard....it's pretty interesting.

Carter is a funny guy, only because his voice is so monotone and when he says something sarcastic or funny in class it's entertaining. His syllabus looks scary and all cluttered up, but to get an A in this class just make sure you review those study guides and prepare your own because his tests are open note/book/computer. I got a B+ and I'm pissed off since I actually worked hard in this class but what got me is the way he words his questions. Make sure you pay close attention because one word could be switched around or something. Oh yeah, get a good group too because you do group assignments on Excel, Visio, and Project. There are 4 quizzes you take online and I found them to be confusing!

Carter is a really cool guy with an incredibly sneaky sense of humor. His class is mainly based on the tests (open book) and the in class exercises (which were very educational and beneficial). Carter is very willing to help clarify anything for you in or out of class and to help you if neeed on the projects. Great professor.

Carter is very straightforward in his teaching. All assignment instructions are concise. All work is done in class unless you can not finish it (which is rare). There are four exams that are open book, open note...he does not try to trick students. Accomodating for help on assignments in and out of class. If you are unfamiliar with excel, visio, or project, TAKE HIS CLASS! I had no idea what I was doing, but he explained it and now i understand!!

this class is 100% a joke. all of his quizzes and exams are open note (quizzes online answers from a given pdf). i learned absolutely nothing in his class. all quizzes are supposed to be done solo but that is never the case because everyone works together. my suggestion is to get a small group together, have one person submit answers first. the quiz is graded immediately (multiple choice) and you will be able to fix those that were incorrect. just rotate being the person who submits first. the only reason to actually go to class is to work on his assignments which are lengthy, and he tells you exactly what buttons to press in the right order. monkies could do his assignments successfully. even though his exams are open note, open book, and he gives you the page number or slideshow with the answer, the questions are far too precise to even find what he is looking for. try using [ctrl f] to look for key words on the powerepoints and pdfs. if you do end up stuck in his class, i highly recommend getting a used book with lots of highlighting and underlining in it because chances are that anyone who has taken his class before you has higlighted his exam answers. if you are good at search and circles then take his class.

Tests are open book w/ page numbers next to each question that lead you to the answer. He gives you a study guide ahead of time with page numbers to the topics that will show up on the test. Highlight the topics at each page number before the test and you should be able to cruise on the test with a straight B. One or two team projects done in class. Weekly individual Excel projects with instructions that tell you exactly what keys to press in order to get from start to finish. As the quarter progresses, the weekly projects get a bit more difficult with analysis questions at the end. His due date is always Saturday at midnight, which is nice for us last-minute people. Basically, I did all of the above and came to class about 80% of the time. You can pretty much go through the entire class only paying attention to the material 30% of the time and get a solid B. To get an A, you'll have to study just slightly harder for the tests, since each is worth 17.5% (there are four.) Overall, a nice class for a busy schedule since it doesn't really call for that much work. In terms of subject matter, some of the stuff is interesting. If I were to do everything over again, I would spend more time on the Excel projects UNDERSTANDING them, rather than just trying to complete them. For accounting majors going into audit, the hot-keys and functions would be a very valuable skill when starting work.

This is a really easy class to take but I didnt learn much from it. All tests are open book/note so if you do a good job preparing the study guide he gives you, you will be fine. The homework assignments took awhile and were hard but they are only worth a very small percent of your grade. Carter knows his stuff and he has a funny dry sense of humor. Overall, take this class if you want an easy class with a small workload.

This is guy is the worst teacher i ever had at cal poly. The lecture are boring, nobody follows what he is saying, he just go on and on about a topic that no one pay attention and say things that you can't even comprehend. People are chatting in class and reading news paper. Going to class is like commiting suicide becuase of bordem. Overall worst teacher ever had, don't take him, test are hard and he doesn't prepare you for it. If you decide to take him, read the book and power point and don't go to class. Lab, and quiz can be taken at home. DON'T TAKE HIM......

Carter's lectures are super boring, but this class was way easy. Everything is on blackboard, so you really do not have to go to class. The quizzes are on blackboard so you can take them from home and you just read articles and answer questions straight out of them. There were only a few assignments and he writes out every step you need to do, so it's just following directions. If you can't figure out how to do something, just ask him during the lab and he'll do it for you! We rarely had to stay for lab, so we got out an hour early everyday. There are four midterms and the study guide tells you exactly what you need to know and what page it's on so you only have to read a few pages. Best of all there is no final! I know nothing about computers and I managed to get an A! His lectures are boring, but how could the info be interesting? Take him if you want an easy class!

Heres the story, Prof Carter is an easy going guy who presents all his lectures on Powerpoint. No need to read the book, but if you take 1 hour a week and do the practice problems for Access and Excell, the class is a cake walk. Carter is a good prof with a solid background working in the "real world." He is very straight forward with his expectations and clear about his assignments and tests. The tests by the way, were not bad at all and required 2 hrs of solid review to just get a B. As the nature of the class goes, the computer material he lectures on is dry and boring, so he structures the class to be hands on with in class assignments and easy quizzes so he doesnt have to lecture for 2 1/2 hrs. He is the type of teacher who stays after class is over to help you work the kinks out of an assignment you are working on or just even shoot the shit. As far as the person who wrote the comment below me, they are probably one of those huge douchebags who scapes by by doing the minimum with the philosophy that "C's earn degrees." Whats the matter, does Carter have to hold your hand for every assignment or make you study? If this is a subject that interests you, then do the work and ask questions. It wasnt for me, but i still learned a lot. Make sure you leave time to do the assignments during the week, as they are due Saturday night, but sometimes take 2-3 hrs. Carter+ People = Party

Professor Carter is awesome and this class is easy. I knew nothing about computers and I almost pulled an A. The class consists of a bunch of assignments, activity-quizzes, 4 tests, and a couple of group assignments. The tests are open note and open book, but the questions can be tricky. The access assignments suck the most because you have to do them in the computer lab since the data is on the school database. Some of his directions for the assignments might not be that clear and if they aren't just ask him. Carter is more than willing to help during his office hours and he is a really nice guy. I would highly recommend this instructor and the book he uses for the class.

I definitely don't think Carter is as bad as he's made out to be by the other reviews. Maybe he changed his ways since then. The lectures were kinda pointless, since all the powerpoint slides were online. It was good to be in class for the lab assignments though, since some of the Access labs required files that were only at the college of business. There's three midterms, a final, 6 assignments, and 7 or so activity quizzes, although i'm still not sure what the difference between activity quizzes and assignments were on the whole, I sometimes got them confused. Refers to Apio a lot, which is the produce company he used to work for. I guess if you knew something about it, you might surprise him.
