This is a great professor to take for any class. Extremely nice and approachable. Only went to his office once the entire quarter and after that he knew me by name and would say hi around campus. Very light work load, and grades easy, he even says at the beginning of the course he only gave homework to boost points. He can be a bit dry at time, but as long as you copy what he puts on the board (not much) then you'll do fine with the class. I am surprised at how much I learned for such an easy class. Definetely recommend Ron.

Ron De Yong is a great teacher with a lot of information to pass on to his students. If you take good notes, the tests are easy since there is no text book for this class. The only "big" assignments we had were two two-page papers at the beginning of the quarter, and other than that it was just a few worksheets every once in a while. Try to go to class on Fridays, because if there aren't a lot of students that day, he will do an attendance quiz. And he likes to discuss current events... from a very liberal point of view. If that doesn't bother you, this class should be easy enough.

de Yong is a great guy - real easy going and down to earth. 321 is a breeze - all you have to do is take notes and make sure you turn in all your labs. The material covers basic accounting proceedures and most of the labs are excell spread sheets, so for all you concentrating in finance, this class is a walk in the park. de Yong is there to present the material and to help you out. He dosen't try to trick you or screw you over (i.e. all quizes are announced and exams are very straight forward) which is a nice change from some other professors in the department....... Another nice thing about de Yong is that he is actually a farmer (he has a wheat operation up in Montana) so he brings a realistic perspective to the class and can give real world examples. In conclusion, if de Yong is teaching a class that you have to take, take him by all means!!!!

De Yong is good teacher for this class, but is very liberal. De Yong devotes on average one class a week to talk about current events (ie his democrat / liberal views). For farm records this views have nothing to do do with the class, but that does not stop him. He encourages discussion on the topic, but people rarely do. I would just leave and go home instead of sitting there wasting my time (my reasoning on this is that I am not going to change his views and he won't change mine). He has been known to give attendance points when the class is empty (example friday before memorial day weekend).

I really like this teacher and if you went to class it was relatively easy to follow. He talks a lot about current events which was fun because it took up a lot of time. If you go to the review sessions for the tests on the class before the test you will do well in his class. Also don't miss labs they get confusing if you have to make them up.

I can honestly say he was one of my favorite teachers at Cal Poly! He may be slightly boring when he presents the material but he makes the class interesting when he asked about current events (for fun). He is sooo easy going and explains everything so clearly! His tests were very straight forward and if you studying the notes, you are almost guaranteed an A. AWESOME TEACHER!!!!

Awesome teacher! I have yet to come across another person who understands ag policy as well as he does. He is extremely intelligent and has a lot of experience working in politics. He's open with his views (he's a democrat), but he's very open to friendly debate (I'm a republican). He explains complex concepts very clearly. The class has EXCELLENT guest speakers!

de Yong is an excellent policy teacher. He offers "real life" experience from working on various political issues both in Montana and Washington D.C. He is passionate and enthusiastic about teaching as well as learning policy. He is not the typical professor that throws notes or power points at you and expects you to memorize and regurgitate what you learned, he encourages open discusson and debate. Be ready to defend your stance, he is very liberal, but he accepts all viewpoints and encourages everyone liberal and consevative. Definatly take him!!!

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
