Woody is a nice guy. He doesn't grade easy, but he does grade fairly.

Woody was one of the first professors I had at Poly, and he is certain to be one of the greatest. He's laid back, informative, and helpful. He will show you how to do anything you ask, and is always willing to listen to your questions. We never had to stay the whole 4 and 1/2 hours for the twice a week lab, and he gave us all of our assignments at the beginning of class and gave us all the time we needed to finish them in class. Definitely take him if you can! You won't regret it!!!

Woody is the best teacher ever! Out of all of the professors here on campus... I feel that he is the best one I have met so far! Not only is he a great professor... but he also is a great person to talk to about your problems. I hope you take his class because he is a really good teacher and he understands you when you have trouble. trust me... I didn't know how to draft at all when I first got to Cal Poly, and he taught me so well that in my EDES 113 class, I taught the class how to do free-hand perspective drawings.

Mr. Combrink was awesome. It was my first quarter here at Cal Poly, and I wouldn't be surprised if I do not have a professor as good for the next four years. He is very laid back and a fair grader. He explains everything very clearly and is willing to help with any question you may have. Toward the end of the quarter he actually bought pizza for our entire class one day. The workload is very adequate. You learn a lot, yet he doesn't give hardly any outside work. If you stay and work in class, you will probably only have homework a couple times. And even at that, most times I didn't stay the full three hours per class and was able to finish everything assigned before leaving. My roommate had Yin for this class and he was always doing homework. Yet looking at what both of us have gained coming out of the class, I would say, I learned just as much, if not more, and I barely ever did work at home. TRY to get Combrink if at all possible. This class was awesome, and it was in large part due to the instructor.

Woody Combrink is the best teacher that I have had here. He teaches the material thoroughly, and even if you don't understand it, he will help you out in depth indiviually. Good Amount of work, but still fair. I enjoyed going to this class every time.

Excellent teacher. I took him my first quarter here at Cal Poly and was real happy with him. His grading can be a bit ambiguous at times, but at the end of the class, you end up with the grade you deserve. His workload is extremely fair, starting out light and simple, and gradually increasing towards the end of the quarter. Class was scheduled to be three hours long, but you are rarely ever there for the entire time. In fact, you could show up for the first half hour of class, get the assignemet(s), and leave. Good guy, and from what I hear, easily one of the best Arch111 teachers out there.

Woody is awesome! I took him my first quarter at Cal Poly and had no idea what to expect. This class was fun and i actually looked forward to going to class. The drawings we did in this class were not easy, but were not impossible either. And if you didn't understand something Woody would have no problem helping you. Not only is he a good teacher, he is a good person, you can talk to him outside of class as a real person. Overall he is an amaking teacher and a wonderful person and i recommed him to anyone!

Combrink is frickin awesome..... everyone should have this guy as a teacher. he was very understanding and helpful to you if you needed a little extra time to work on a project, and graded more on effort and imporvement than skill. sooooo many times i would sleep through class(intentionally) and come in later in the day to turn things in or get the new assignment, and everytime he praised me for being responsible about missing class... pretty much, he could care less if you go or not, just as long as you get stuff done..... AWESOME GUY. I LOVE WOODY!!!

I had fun in his class. He gives out interesting projects. He doesnt give you too much work to work on at the same time and hes flexible about their due dates. Just tell him you need more time and he is fine with it. He likes us to go out (like Poly Canyon, SLO downtown and campus) to draw about stuff. Hes just a very fun and loving prof.

This guy is the most laid back arch teacher I've had! You'll never have to stay for the full 3 hours unless you want to get all your homework done in class. His projects are VERY easy if you've had Panetta for 111. Also, due dates mean nothing to him; they almost seem more like 'suggestions' of when he wants to put our projects on display. He also tries to save you as much money as possible. Very little blueprinting, and he's not picky about model materials. Not once did I ever have to pull out the vellum. But that does mean I worked on trace most of the quarter...I can't stand trace.

Woody is a great teacher to have. His class is probably the only lab that I kind of enjoyed going to. His projects are pretty easy, but I learned something from each one.

Woody is the most laid back professor I have had at Cal Poly. You turn in the work whenever, so long as you don't turn it in too late. And unlike most architecture professors he actually has a grading system. A lot of models, drawings, and analysis. A lot more interesting stuff than in Arch 111. Answers any questions that you may have and is willing to let the class out early if everything is done. In addition, he's got some really funny stories.

Woody is great! Definately one of my favorite teachers. His projects were always fun and I really learned a lot from him. The class atmosphere is great, we'd just draw and listen to music. He's fair and he always finds something good in your project and emphasizes it, instead of bagging on you for whats wrong (anyone had margarita yin?!)

Combrink was by far the best teacher I had in the 120 series. He made the class enjoyable and taught us material we would need to succeed in the field, rather than just abstract thinking stuff. He was a fair grader, and presented projects so they were easily understandable. Very approachable. Would take any class he taught.

The only reason I gave Combrink a D is because he was overly easy. The simplest projects would be due a week later and pretty much all we had were simple projects. He's a nice enough guy but he doesn't critique very well. So, the class got boring easily. Didn't learn that much from it and always got out of class early. If you don't like a challenge, take him.

I have to say, taking Woody's class was one of the best choices in teachers I've made. His projects were fun, and weren't overly difficult, which is a good thing. The three projects were each very different from the others, presenting a wide array of design opportunities. Woody was always around to help or critique when needed, and wasn't the kind of teacher to tear you a new one, because "he's a better architect than you will ever be." All around a nice guy, and a great professor. I looked forward to my architecture classes for the first time since I came to poly. If he teaches again, I'll sign up in a heart beat, and I really hope he does.

Woody is a REALLY nice guy and he does care about his students. His entire appearance makes me giggle with his oversized polo and black fanny pack and goofy hat. Like the person below me said, he gave three projects that were each really different. My biggest critique is that I didn't learn much of anything at all. He taught us like we were first year students and presented us with information I already knew. I think Woody is a great person, but his "everyone is right" attitude doesn't really fly with me. P.S. if you are inspired by the Bird's Nest - probably automatic A.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.
