i havent had this woman in over 3 years, and im simply writing to support and hand credit to the ones who ACCURATELY rated her. "F" , for fuck you coakley, go back to the pits of hell where you and your emphazema ridden lungs belong. I would rather throw my self in a wood chipper, that even ride in the same elevator as this bitch. WORST PERSON EVER. c c

Ms. Coakley should be a high school teacher. She does not seem to enjoy her job, and I believe she takes a sick kind of pleasure out of making people miserable. Isn't that what high school teachers do? I believe everyone in that class knew well what they were doing and nobody deserved below a B in the course, yet her homework policies and methods of grading tests became ridiculous. Don't take the woman, she is Satan hooked on cancer sticks.

The reason that the above ratings are so bad is that about 90% of the kids in her math classes are little arrogant freshmen who think they can smart-ass the teacher and get away with it. Ironically, the only people who had problems with her were these such students, while the upperclassmen, at least the ones who tried acting polite, got good treatment from her. While she does have her challenges as a teacher, like the fact that she doesn't initially respond well to questions in class, it's all a front, and she'll go out of her way to help you if you ask nicely. If you want to be coddled, and have someone hold your silly little hand, then don't take her.

Coakley is a terrible teacher, I would advise you to stay away from her class. She goes on for ever about what was wrong in the world and how she can fix it. She graded her homework unfairly, even if you did the whole thing you never got full credit. Personally, I think she is emotionally unstable and should retire soon.

Dr. Coakley is the worst teacher I've had in my life for several reasons: 1-she expected students to know material before even starting the subject. 2-she did not teach or explain things clearly. 3-homework was extremely overloaded and took up more time than any student has available. 4-pop quizzes were sometimes on material we hadn't even been taught yet. 5-she made going to class a health hazard, unless you enjoy sitting in billows of smoke. 6-she magically transformed into a dog while in the middle of a lecture. While her performance of a variety of barks in increasing volumes was most amusing, it failed to teach me anything that might show up on a test. 7-Speaking of tests, the mid-term and final were nothing like any of the homework or material in the book. She justifies this by saying they're basically the same concept, it's not fair to ive us problems unlike any we've ever seen before.

Although I receievd a B in Dr. Coakley's class, I do not feel that I learned anything from her. She was always late. As her students, we had to correct her math skills. In class she was unhelpful. She did examples on the board, losing about 75% of the class along the way. She more or less just taught the chalk board instead of her students. I will give her one thing, when you went into her office, during office hours she was very helpful. Overall, if you were to ask me if you should take Dr. Coakley as a teacher, I would have to tell you NO!

This woman hates teaching...i have no explanation of why she got hired or even made it to where she is today...she rants about how stupid the students are while she should be teaching, and complains how we should know the material which we haven't looked at yet...she takes a break during the middle of every class to go outside and smoke and when she comes back in you won't want to be within the first three rows...she cancelled pre scheduled help sessions, and handed out packets to use for studying which contained material unlike what we were currently studying...i have taken pre calc algebra before in hs, this was the only math class i needed to take at poly, and i was 2 points away from a c! Thank you Dr. Coakley!!!

Ever seen that smoking commercial with the lady with a hole in her throat? yea. enough said. Her lectures where okay and she gave helpful packets on the chapters. But answering students questions was definately a weakness. Even her office hours were difficult to get a straight answer from. Her weekly quizess were only two questions or so, but i said weekly. The biggest issue we had was clarifying what homework was due when. She loses schedule on the syllabus and makes up her own. HEY! DONT FORGET TO TELL US WHEN HMK IS DUE FOR ONCE! if you get her, youll live, just form study groups, but if you can, avoid the woman.

Where the hell to start? Coakley stinks like cigs all the damn time. It is difficult to pay attention in the front row because of the odor. There were times when she cancelled class because, "there is no point in teaching you stupid students." Yes, she really said that. The only reason I got an A in this class was that I had taken calc in high school and poly would not let me out of taking this damn class.

Here's a helpful hint for Dr. Coakley - don't be a dipshit freshman in her class, don't think you're smarter than her, and don't take her seriously. Trust me on this - I got a C in her class, so I'm completely unbiased as to what grade she did or did not give me. Most of the kids in our class were in their second quarter at Cal Poly, and still thought they were in high school where they had a four point bullshit nine gpa and the teachers stroked their egos all the time. Coakley may seem gruff at first, but if you pay attention, you'll see she tries to throw in some humor from time to time to lighten up the class. If you are afraid of having a teacher make fun of you or make you look bad if you're being an idiot in her class, don't take her.

Despite all the negative comments that are on this webpage about her, dr. Coakley wasn't that bad of a teacher. Yes she did smell a little, and when I first saw her she reminded me of that lady on the smoking commercial with the hole on her throat. But she actually explained all the material pretty well, her tests weren't hard a slong as you did the homework, she was kind of funny at times, even though sometimes she came across as being rude but I think it was just innocent jokes. Overall I think she was pretty good.

I had Coakley for a seven a.m. class, four days a week, which appearantly wasn't important enough for her to even bother showing up. Not only did she not show up, almost once every week starting the second week of class, but she never even apologized about it. Her homework assignments were completely ridiculous, often upwards of 4 hours of homework a night, and we never seemed to even make any progess in the class. By the fourth week, we were still on the first chapter, it was a comlpete waste of my time to even go to class. I would recommend aviod Coakley's class at all cost, it is a total joke.

This is how it is, she thinks it is the students responsability to teach themselves ALL of the material in class. She usually didn't have time to teach because she took so damn long answering the questions. And you yea, if you don't like 3 or 4 hours of homework EVERY NIGHT don't take Coakley.

This is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I took calculas in highschool so I knew the material, thank god. You will be lucky if she showes up to class 2 out of the 4 days a week. It sucks if you are lucky and get her 7am class. It is not worth going to her class at all. If you listen to what she trys to teach you'll be more lost than if you teach it to yourself. Probably THE WORST TEACHER AT CAL POLY!

Just like what everyone else says, this teacher is pathetic. She cant explain the material for shit, and shes never there. YOull be lucky if she comes to class 3 times a week. The mid-terms are bullshit, because after you take the test, she wont grade them. . . she'll roll up the tests with some tabacco and smoke them on her breaks. She looks exactly like the lady on that commercial that smokes through her throat. Boy was that a nasty visual. Dont sit in the front cause youll smell the cigarettes that she ATE for breakfast. She's never in her office hours either. I think shes about to die, hence the name " CRoakley ". She's too busy thinking about when shes going to have her next cigarette, so she cant concentrate on teaching the class. Whatever you do, do not take her class... even if its a last resort, even if your life depends on it. FUCK YOU COAKLEY YOU CAN ROT IN HELL!!!!

Stuff you should know, 1. Homework is a joke, if u ask about it, u are ridicueled, 2. When she does finally show up to class, she puts you to sleep explaining the shit you already know to the class, but if u ask about a harder problem, she tells you to do it yourself, 3. the tests and midterms are ridiculous, none of the homework shows up on them, which is why no one gets above a c on them, unless you are the blonde in the front of the 8 oclock class, 4.AVOID COAKLEY AT ALL COSTS!!! i am not going to pass this class because of her lack of teaching and the shitty tests she gives, so be forwarned, dont make the same mistake i did, i thought her not showing up and cancelling class would be cool, BUT IT SUCKED!! I didnt learn anything and now have to repeat the course, learn from my mistake, DON'T TAKE COAKLEY!!!!!

Coakley was the worst teacher I've ever had. I had 7 am class and half the time she didn't show up. We didn't finish the material for the class and she wasn't able to clarify aspects of her class in any way. We had a ton of homework and she would take points off for pointless things. The homework points made people who would have gotten A's, get C's. If you get her, switch now. Hopefully sh'es fired already.

For the first half of the quarter, Dr. Coakley hardly ever showed up, so our class became very behind. It was difficult to keep up because she would move so quickly to catch up. Her notes are very unorganized. I recomend taking your own notes from the book (the book is easier to understand). The quizzes are easy; the questions are straight from the homework from the night before. Midterms aren't too bad. Do all of the study test questions, and all of the homework and you'll be fine. BE SURE TO GO TO THE STUDY SESSIONS! They really help.

Dr. Coakley was quite possibly the worst teacher I ever had. She takes an easy subject and turns it into a pain in the ass. If you ask her a question, she'll just requote her lecture, like she doesn't care. Her lectures are boring, and her grading is horrifying. The final was ridiculously hard. She smokes like a train, so she stinks something awful. I would not recommend this teacher at all.

After a week, I left and I have to say I felt sorry for the students that I left behind. I wonder if they gradulated?

Personally I don't get her, she says that she makes homework fourty percent of the grade because some people don't do well on tests yet she make it impossible to do well in homework. She won't accept any late work so essentially I had to go to her class to turn in homewrok when I wasn't even learning anything and she gives you like 6 out of 10 points even when you do the whole assignment. I really should have gotten a better grade because I did good on the tests but she was really weird with her homework policy and she reminds me of one of Marge Simpsons nasty smoking sisters and one of those cancer stricken ladies in a antismoking commercial.

Do not take this class! Coakley is a terrible teacher! She's a bitter lady who likes to take her agressions out on her students. Besides her terrible attitude, bad jokes, and mean comments, she grades very unfairly. Even if you know the material it's almost impossible to pass her class. Coakley mumbled to her self and talked to the black board more than she did to the class. She presented the material poorly. I found myself going to the class soley to turn in homework and take quizes. The homework was worth 40%of the grade and with all the homework completed and correct it was difficult to recieve more than a six out of ten. Her tests were not difficult but she graded them extremley poorly. Unless each problem showed her exactly what she wanted the were not correct. Everyone in the class new the material very well but it was impossible to get a good grade because of her grading standards. Would not recommend this teacher at all.

I don't see why everyone has so much against her. I really did learn a lot. Sometimes she would go on and on about something everyone knew, but EVERY time anyone asked a question, she made sure they understood the answer. Office hours were very helpfull. The midterms and final were way easier than they could have been, and homework is graded hard, but it's sorta free points. Just talk and joke with her; she really is a nice lady

Coakley is a bitter old woman who hates the world, and likes to take it out on her students. Do not take this class! If you're a whiz at pre-cal and trig, then you might be able to understand her, but you'll fail anyway, because even if you get all the answers right on the test, you'll only get a D. Does that make any sense?

Let me sum up the recurring points in this evaluations list: She stinks like smoke all the time; Her homework grading makes no sense and you will ususally only get 6/10 no matter what; weekly quizzes that don't cover material from class; mean to students who ask questions; only kiss ass students will get on her good side; lectures to the board and barks in class to get you to stop asking questions. Does that say enough? I took this class to prepare for calc and did well because I was smart enough to get a tutor. I took calc and flunked. I was not prepared for anything. Thanks Coakley! By the way, anyone here who tries to push Nancy Parhams "books" so damn much must be moronic.

This class was okay. Dr. Coakley was actually pretty nice--although, I was convinced she didn't know who any of us were up until the very end of the quarter. I was able to follow her lecture fairly well, and she didn't "bark" at us as other people have said. It was probably a different dynamic in our class (given there were only ten students), but she was actually really laid back and nice to us. My biggest complaint was the amount of homework assigned. It was JUST A LITTLE bit overboard (understatement here) to assign 30-40 problems a night at times, the vast majority of which asked us to perform the same exact operations over and over AND OVER...but, on the other hand, it was good preparation for quizzes and tests, which were basically taken from the homework. I don't know...she didn't seem that bad to me.

She likes to grade on trivial things such as whether you showed every single step in solving a problem or whether or not you drew a box around your answer. She assigns quite a bit of homework and it counts as a major part of your course grade. I found the lectures boring and her handouts weren't very helpful. Don't bother buying the book, it's expensive and I never used it once. All the class material and homework comes from a 2nd Edition publication.

Dr. Coakely is a non-interactive teacher. She presents the material in very poor form. She must be corrected by her students on how equations should be solved at least every class. She assigns a very large amount of homework, which the average student will barelay have time to fit into a 24 hour day. Besides this, she is extremely "nitpicky" about grading these assignments. If you do not have an excellent prior knowledge to the coursework in her classes I advise you not to take her. Also, if you plan on learning, get another teacher. If you do choose to take her, prepare to view the sad effects of alzheimers disease.

Stop the bleeding. She hates kids, teaching, Poly, and especially helping students. Coakley has been by far the most horrible teacher I've ever encountered in my life. When I went to her office hours, she made me feel like a total dumbass by criticizing me and refusing to help me. She lags when returning homework assignments, and when we do finally get them back, they reek of cigarettes. On the assignment sheet, there's no due dates listed..and when we go over homework in class she makes us turn it in before helping us out with problems we don't understand. All she does is bark rude, cynical comments at the class. Her teaching style is so bad that I just went to math tutoring instead to understand the sections. More than half of the class doesn't even pay attention to her and she doesn't even give a care. For your sake, I STRONGLY ADVISE YOU NOT TO TAKE HER. SHE'LL MAKE YOUR QUARTER SEEM LIKE HELL.
