During this entire quarter all I could think about was how this professor reminded me of that small little dog that runs through the back of scene 23 in The Incredibles by Pixar. Seriously, if you look it up you will only be able to see it...

Richard is a knowledgable guy with practical experience and he loves to go off on tangents that are interesting (to tech types like me) but material not tested on. His class is hands-on networking/operating system configuration and less intense than the Cisco series for sure. Don't underestimate his quizzes even if you have a strong technical background. Other than studying for the quizzes, there isn't really any outside work if you do the projects in class.

this guy is awesome, his sense of humor is mildly hard to match up with. but if you go to class and do all the work its an easy A.

Richard is a good guy; he knows he's stuff, but fails to get his message accross. I think this is partially because if he teaches the students everything he knows, we'd be perfect candidates to replace him at the college of business. He's very short with important topics, but tries extremely hard to explain the material. As long as you do well on the quizzes, your overall grade will be a B or higher.

Ricard is a cool guy with a good sense of humor. He is easy to approach and fun to talk to. Academically, he is also a good instructor too. He tries hard to explain the topics he knows and admit his mistakes for topics he does not know that well. This is actually what makes students like him because he does not act all snobby like some professors do. In terms of grade, pay attention (at least half of the time) in class, and you'll done fine.

Just make sure you study for the quizzes if you need an A

If you wish to memorize tons of acronyms, learn trivial stuff, and be bored in class, this is the one for you. The instructor is a nice guy and all, but the class itself--just like the IS department here at Poly--is a joke.

Time and time again I have tried to give this professor the benefit of the doubt. Richard is a nice guy, there is no doubt about it. With that being said, he has no place as a professor at Cal Poly. He is knowledgeable in the area of network communications, but rarely is able to articulate what he is trying to communicate. He has a way of describing a term without actually using any language beneficial to learning that particular term. For instance, he began starting to describe what a "microkernel" is, and after listening to him for 40 seconds, I had written down: "A microkernel is..." The class is just purely rote memorization on out of date key terms. At times I just feel bad for him. Nobody in class is able to pay attention to him and he is oblivious to the fact that he doesn't even have the class' attention. He commonly scribbles on the board, directly facing the board, talking to the board, and blocking the class from what he is writing. I'm saddened that I have paid as much money as I have to take his course.
