Dills is a great prof, she really does well on involving her students, I found the class discussions actually beneficial. You really learn how to criticize any argument, but it probably helps to have some background in that sort of thing. Hardly any homework; some essays, a midterm, and a big research paper. You hardly use the book, but I don't know where else you'd get the reading assignments. Maybe share a book with someone. Dills is a funny lady, very respectful, I recommend her!

Professor Dills was great for technical writing. Sure, it was boring at times, but it was a really useful subject and she presented everything clearly. There was writting assingments due in every class, but they were easy things like business letters and flyers and stuff. She made an effort to get to know and talk to her students personally, which I found nice. We had a huge technical writing project due at the end of the quarter, so the second half of the quarter was reserved for group meetings for the project which was nice because if your group didn't want to meet you didn't have to go to class. I would definetly recomend english 149 and Dills.

I would absolutly recommend taking professor Dills for technical writing if you get the chance. The class was not tough in a brain work sort of way, and it could be tedious at times, but it was totally useful and worth it. Alot of the material you were doing you knew you would be using in your future career. She is a really nice lady who actually gets to know and care about her students which I found refreshing for a general ed class. The project at the end of the class was alot of work but it could also be pretty interesting if you were doing a topic that you actually cared about, and since you could choose the topic yourself that wasn't hard to do. Overall I found the class useful, I even kept my book for a refrence in the future, and professor Dills was a very cool lady.

I had Professor Dills for ENGL 149. The class is not that hard. There is not very much homework. Mostly just a couple large group projects. I am not a big fan of group work because I end up doing most the work. Plus, I don't like my grade to depend on other peoples efforts. If you don't like group work, you won't like this class. You can choose your own projects so they can actually be fairly interesting, which is good. The work load is minimal if you don't wait till the last minute for everything. Professor Dills is a pretty good teacher. Not the best, but you will learn a lot of stuff that will help you out in your other classes. Overall, taking the class with Professor Dills was a positive experience.

I'm not sure there is any point in reviewing Dills now that she is retired, but I have to agree with the other reviewers here. She is a great Technical Writing teacher. I'm glad I had the priviledge of having her, as she is practical and has good experience. The class consists of 10 portfolio items (such as memos, letters, a white paper, etc.), some other assignments (a diagnostic writing test and a grammar test) and several major group projects. I'm not the biggest fan of group work, but it isn't too bad. She will you to be graded separately if requested, so other people's work won't greatly affect your grade. Our group took advantage of this. Overall, Dills was an excellent teacher, with a good personality and much wisdom--I'm sure I will put to use most of the knowledge gained from this class.

Dills is a pretty cool lady. There are two midterms a presentation and a final that are all worth the same. There are 4 boooks that you have to read for the course and sometimes they are not that interesting. Basically you do nothing in class but read the stories (she randomly takes attendance a couple times a quarter). Dills literally doesnt teach you anything but then again what is there to teach in a Literature class. Her tests are all short answer and you must read the stories to do well. The presentation is very easy and she is a fair grader. Overall Dills is cool to take for a class that is pretty much meaningless.

Dills is a down to earth woman but the class is really boring. Every class she sits there and reads the stories to you like a little kid. A lot of people skip class but she does take attendance when she notices people are missing. The tests are alright if you have read the books or read the spark notes. Sometimes she asks random terms on her tests that are pointless to the stories. This class is extremely useless and you will be sure to ask yourself what is there to gain. The final is cumulative which means random questions from old stories(Dills gives you different quotes from the books which you have to identify). Overall take this class if you don't mind withering away your time.

I thought this class was a lot of fun. When I signed up for it I wasn't excited about the books we had to read or the class in general. She really helped me understand the material. She really tries to get the class involved. For each book we were either assigned to read a part in a play (like Hamlet) or have a row of students explain what happened in the story (the Canterbury Tales). I really enjoyed this because it kept you interested. The only classes that I found to be boring were when she explained the era of the book you were about to read. She is a great teacher and I would highly recommend taking this course (esp if you take the 1 hour class 4 days a week).

Professor Dills is an awesome teacher for English 252. The class was a lot of reading and there were 4 books to read: Dante's Inferno, Canterbury Tales, Hamlet, and Candide. Go check out sparknotes if you fall behind in the reading but some of the tests had quote identifications so I'd advice taking the time to read the books. There were 2 midterms each worth 25% of your grade. They were very well designed and if you read the books and paid attention to the lectures then you'll do just fine. The final is worth 25% and all we had to do was write on one of three essay topics and turn it in before the final day. It was great. And the other 25% of the class is a 12 minute presentation to the class (that can be done with a partner) about any topic that you choose that relates to one of the time periods that the books take place in (medieval, renaissance..etc). Overall this class was great. Professor Dills did an excellent job of going through the books and explaining the deeper meanings in them. I highly recommend her.

Well the truth is that the class is structured like they said... but you can't just read the books and pass her test you have to do a lot of analysis of the books. For a GE class and someone that doesn't like English Don't take her. She tests as if you were an English major and well most of us are not... I got luck because I failed the First test but she let me take the second test as 50% of my grade. If she is the only teacher I wish you good luck, cause you will need it... Look into another class for C1 I heard there were plenty of easy ones out there.

so, dills is now retired. but i have to say, i loved taking her class. it was as organized as a literary course can be (which isn't very, given the material and discussion time), and she went through each book thoroughly, so we knew what to look for and what was really going on underneath the words. her tests were straight-forward, and she was really great. i have to say of all the english courses i've taken since high school, she came the closest to my expectations and wants from an english teacher. funny, sarcastic, succinct, and very insightful and understanding. i'll miss her!

Dills literature class is an awesome time. Its laid back and she treats it like a C1 course. that being said you did get lot of info from the class and you somehow come out learning alot about Medieval era and the books you go over. Shes just fun to get into discussions with and is always havin fun period. Hope she keeps on teaching at Poly. Take Dills!!!!

This woman changed my outlook on Literature. And the greatest part was... I didn't have to read it! I know she retired, but she still teaches sometimes, so if you have the opportunity, take her, especially if you hate reading. It is totally possible to get a B in her class without reading anything. In class, she basically tells you the stories, and if you take good notes, you can definitely get a B on her tests. Tests are hard, but I really enjoyed going to class and listening to her talk.

If I could sum up the class in one word it would be RUSHED. Professor Dills was always complaining about how many students she had and did not bother with any personal connections. We read a book a week and instead of analyzing the material during class time she would summarize the pages we were to have already read. Honestly,I didn't read a single page outside the classroom and got a decent grade. So if your looking for easy you've got it, but I was expecting more from a college professor.

This is a good class for you to take care of that upper division elective (area C4) and at same time take care of the GWR. Offcourse you have to be good at essay writting which is what this class is all about. You write about 4 essays out of class and two in class (one of these will count as your GWR; your choice). This is your basic english class you had to take your freshman year were you had to write a narrative, exposition, cause & effect, argumentative, and all of those except this time you are supposed to know what you are doing and you only get help from the instructor if you go to office hours. Your grade in the class is based on the essays and a final group presentation. An optional journal can boost your grade up but it is not required. Botomline, if you turn in your essays and show up regularly you
