Professor Choi was a great instructor. Her tests are based on her lectures and articles you are required to read. Her lectures are very interesting and we often had class discussions. Overall, it was a very interesting class.

Inne Choi is an exceptionally good teacher expecially because of her experience with fieldwork. She isn't just teaching material she had read but also from the experiences she has had in her work. It is NOT difficult to do well in her class and her encouragement of class discussions makes the class really interesting.

This teacher is one of the worst teachers I have ever had the experience of taking at Poly. She made me dread going to class and made me hate the subject of anthropology. If you can avoid taking a class from this teacher I would do it

If I had not had an Anthro class in high school then I would find this class very difficult. I found her tests too picky. She could have spent 30 seconds on an subject and there would be 3 questions on the test. Her quarter paper was also weird because it didn't connect to the rest of the class at all. Overall, I do not recommend her if you have no previous experience with Anthropology. She'll turn you off from a wonderful subject.

I have to say I'm surprised by all of the negative evaluations for Choi. I really enjoyed her class and found her to be intelligent, supportive, and kind. Her personal experiences in the field of anthropology are incredibly interesting, and her lectures were good enough to keep me awake and interested for 2 hours which is difficult. She was always exteremly nice to the students, she provided a very helpful study guide for her tests, and the group project was structured and not very hard. I'd recommend her to anyone.

She seems to know her material well, and has a lot of fieldwork experience. Her lectures seemed long though . . I remember taking a lot of notes. Some parts of the subject seemed interesting and humorous, others simply boring. I dreaded doing the group project, but it didn't turn out as bad as I thought. What brought my grade down were the tests, which I had studied for, and kept up with the reading. A mixed bag, some people will really like her, and some people the opposite.

She expects a lot out of a 7AM class. No homework, no papers....you cant complain about too much. Tests were tough but fairly representative of the material covered. Her personal experiences/stores were interesting and gave good examples for the subjectmatter. PAC for Life

Although graduated, I felt compelled to take the time to do this one very important thing before I left .... and that is to caution any student who in any fashion cares about their education to NEVER take one of Choi's class. She will immediately make you HATE the subject of Anthropology, which seems very ironic to me ... if I spent that much time in an area of study, I would want to turn others on to the subject. She is a HORRIBLE role model of women who 'have made it', so to speak. With her rude attitude, and huge chip on her shoulder, she demonstrates to other impressionable young women and men that you have to be a BITCH to get there, which in itself is sooo DAMAGING. If I never make another suggestion for the rest of my life, I will be satisfied IF you heed my warning to: "Save your GPA, and your love of learning, and your respect of the teaching profession, and NEVER expose yourself to this SOUR-FACED, BITTER, *******.!"

First of all, I want to start off by saying that the two other ones who rated her for ANT 203 were way too harsh! I took her class in the fall of 2000 and I thought her class was taught extremely well. She was just getting ready to try out a new program that weighed heavily on the internet and she had a power-point presentation everyday that made the organization of the class impeccable! The notes and films watched in the class were all extremely informative. This was the very first anthropology class I had ever taken and, though I realized that the subject probably wasn't for me, I would definately jump at the chance to take another class from Inne Choi. The tests WERE NOT extremely difficult...especially if you kept up with the readings and went to class! Study time was minimal for this class because she taught it so well, that if you payed any attention at all, you should get atleast a C on the tests! She also had major review sessions before each of her tests (2 midterms plus a final) where she actually told you many of the test questions! She also had a major study sheet available on the class web page that was awesome! DO NOT SIMPLY BELIEVE THESES OTHER STUDENTS...THEY WERE PROBABLY JUST RIPPING ON HER FOR A BAD GRADE...think about it...what's more likely...Would you be more likely to take the time to write about a teacher that totally screwed you and that you are just so angry about? Or would you run to your computer to rate a teacher that you really liked? Look at me...It took me an entire quarter just to type it for her!!! You really should consider taking one of Inne Choi's classes!!!

She definitely made the class interesting. If you attend class and actually listen you will think mid-quarter that you will get an A or a B.Think again. Her tests were difficult but if you took great notes and studied every little detail you can get a B on the tests. She definitely has her favorites so speak up. Towards the end of the quarter she would only talk to and answer the ones she knew by name. If you ask a question she will make you sound like a complete idiot in front of the class. She was rude to a few individuals and almost too kind to others. You will have to get on her good side. Don't take this class thinking you will get an easy A. I learned more in that class than most of my others and I got a C.She has a great teaching method and I recommend her only if you are prepared for a challenge. Oh yeah, she has a thing for Tamaran monkeys.

Dr. Choi definitly knows her stuff and has a lot of experience in the anthropolgy field. She has a very good power-point presentation that make it easy to take good notes. The class grade is based on two exams and the final which means good test scores are a must. The class calls for a lot of readind but the subject area is very interesting. Don't be fooled...this isn't a class you can slck off in if you want a decent grade. As for her, she's pretty nice, but sometimes she puts people on the spot. Also, don't expect her to aknowledge you outside of class.

ANT 250 is now offered as a GE course and I am lucky enough to have gotton into the one section they offered for it. Inne is a great lecturer and is not stuck in the old days of chalk and blackboard. She promplty comes into class and plugs in her computer for a powerpoint presentation for the days topic. Her lectures are intresting and she is fun to watch jump around the classroom explaining how different species of primates walk. The tests are multiple choice with one or two short answer questions. If you study really hard the night before the tests and have good memorization skills you will do fine in the class. The subject matter is what keeps the class intresting. Often Inne will bring in skulls and bones for you to look at and you better look at them or she'll yell. I would recommend this class to anyone wanting to fill in their GE spot without having to put in the lab hours for regular bio.

Dr. Choi was an excellent teacher. The class was difficult, but all the information you needed to know for the test was explained in class. There were one or two questions from the reading on each test, so its not as important as going to class. Dr. Choi is very enthusiastic about anthropology, which makes the class very interesting. Take this course and this professor!!

Professor Choi was really enthusiastic about biological anthropology and it really made the 2 hour lecture bearable. The course name really scared me, but the class itself really wasn't that bad. The course consists of 2 midterms and a final. I found both of the midterms to be pretty easy, but the final was rather difficult. Professor Choi's class was really organized and she came to class with a slide show with pictures and notes that really made it easy for us to keep up with her lecture and take good notes. She gives you a study guide as well that really helped me prepare for the exams. There is a lot of information that she gives you though so if you are looking for a class that you can ditch every once awhile don't take this one, because I only missed one lecture and I think that if I had missed any more than that I wouldn't have done as well in the class as i did. So if you want a class in which you will learn a lot about human evolution, etc. definitely take ANT 250 from Choi, you won't regret it!

I was extremely apprehensive about taking Dr. Choi after reading the comments made here about her. She ended up being a very knowledgeable, organized lecturer whose use of PowerPoint was extremely helpful. She has good mood days, and bad mood days. She can be entertaining, but also very condescending. She skillfully navigated us through the really cumbersome info, which made learning classifications of primates much easier. The first 2 tests were manageable if you read and completed the study guide questions. The 3rd test was more of an ambush; technical vocabulary and a lot of questions from the reading, with very few coming from the study guide, so spend more time reviewing the last test's chapters, than its study guide. All in all, I think she made the lectures interesting and has found a really good textbook for the course, which I will actually keep. Participate in class discussions, don't smart-off, attend class, and keep up on the reading. That's the ticket to doing well and avoiding mandatory exercises. One more thing: Derogatory sexual or racial comments have no place in her evaluations as they serve no informative purpose.

Inne is a great instructor. She's very intelligent and has a great sense of humor. She uses powerpoint for each lecture, and it really helps. Choi was one of the worst proffessors that I have ever had at Cal Poly. It is not that the class was hard it is just that she has a very poor teaching style and does not care about the students. She takes over two weeks to return scantron tests, and doesn't present the material logically. Overall the class is not that difficult, I got a C because I didn't try too hard. If you want to learn this class is a wast of your time.

I realize that I got a D and thus you might believe that I cant stand this teacher because of that, but the truth is she is horribly boring. She puts so much time and effort into things that she doesnt test on. Should you need this class, take notes on her little side remarks about things that dont matter enough to discuss because that is what she tests on. Yes, she knows her material and yes she is a smart lady but she makes you hate what she is teaching. You can get extra credit by cleaning out a dead animals skull and she plays favorites to certain students. She is constantly telling pointless facts about how Asians or women are superior to white males. The only thing I disliked more then her lectures was her snipe, rude attitude. AVOID!

ok i really don't care that i failed because i didn't try that hard. but i didn't try that hard because she is the most boring teacher i've ever had in my life. i don't get it. she's this perky little asian woman who seems like she'd be so much fun. i had a really good first impression of her, actually. that quickly faded. she definitely knows her material, but she can not, for the life of her, get the class to care. at least once every day she asked us "hello?? are you listening to me?? anyone??" (no response). seriously...NO ONE cared. and that got really frustrating after a while. and like the testifier said before me, by the end of the term, i HATED biological anthropology. it makes me cringe now. so unless you like boring memorization, avoid this teacher.

Inne Choi is one of the best instructors at Poly. As a student that doesn't always speak up in class, being to shy to ask questions, I felt totally comfortable approaching Prof. Choi during and after class, confident that she would guide me through the answer. Choi's lectures are on powerpoint and she posts the lecture OUTLINES on Blackboard...so class attendance is pretty vital but she provides a ton of resources and charts through Blackboard. As far as work load, reading is the biggest worry. She doesn't assign homework, the grade rests mainly on 3 midterms that are equally weighted. The midterms are pretty challenging but Choi always provides review time in class and study guide questions. I would recomend this class to anyone who actually puts time into their classes. And as far as beliefs? Whether or not you believe in Evolution ( which this course is focused around ) really doesn't matter. If your beliefs concur with that view then beef up on you knowledge, and if your beliefs oppose, well then it's never been a better time to get to know the flip side of the arguement, it will only make you a more intelligent debator.

Choi is a great professor. She does a pretty good job of lecturing which is a feat when you have the class at 7 am. Her tests were fair and almost entirely based on her lecture. You have to memorize tons of facts about primates and early humans, but it is not that hard. If you are struggling, she will help you. She sometimes puts you on the spot but only when she thinks you aren't listening. Overall, she is fair and interesting which is more than I can say for lots of other profs on this campus

She is great at making the lecture interesting most of the time. It's not her fault that studying teeth for two hours can make you fall asleep. There is no homework, just reading and three tests all worth the same amount (33.3% of your grade). Kind of hard to make it up if you don't do well on one of the tests like I did. Very nice lady though.

Great teacher! So clear you can see right through the whole class. I was never scared to walk in there and I never skipped a class. It's good to take this class the same quarter as ANT 344 (Sex, Death, and Human Nature) if you can because they are very similar with the evolution stuff. She brought in great examples of skulls mostly. She has a lot of good stories and we had a junk food party around the time we were studying dentition. Very informative! Recommended to anyone, especially those who like History Channel and National Geographic. She also puts all her lectures on blackboard for you to fill out in lecture (make sure you go to every one) and the study guides are excellent! Take this class, you'll enjoy learning!

Do not take this class with her. Period. Her lectures are boring, there is WAY too much information in the lectures and tests, it is just ridiculous. She seriously made me hate anthropology afterwards. The tests are too detailed and she expects you memorize every single piece of information. She also expects you to regard this as the most important class you're taking. She quickly picks favorites and has conversations with them only. It is not worth it to take this class. I really wish I had something good to say about her or one positive thing I took away from the class, but I don't. I was a freshman at the time and now I'm a senior; this is the only "C" I've gotten in 4 1/2 years at Poly. Sucks.

This is the only class (professor) in my major that I received lower than a B+ in. I found that what I understood in her lectures was not what I understood from the required readings and other course material. The exams did not reflex my class notes either because what she said or what I wrote down were different but the exam did reflect what was in the course readings. I HIGHLY recommend reviewing material BEFORE each lecture to keep yourself on-track with each lecture. AND check your notes taken in class against the required readings. When I asked questions in class or answered her questions incorrectly, she became visibility annoyed and I felt like she didn't respect me as a student because of my questions. It was very difficult subject matter for me and she made me feel stupid for not being able to understand it or follow her train of thought. Her compassion for students that are not as smart as she, I found very lacking. Since taking her class I have been diagnosed with ADD and medication has helped my attention. I probably would do better in her class if I had been taking Adderall. She would be a better upper division professor once you as a student have already made the choice to continue for a Master's degree in her field... or start taking Adderall ;P

Inne Choi is her real name, not Erin Choi as is posted here, at least that is how she introduces herself, and that is what she puts on the course syllabus. I took Inne's ANT 360 Human Cultural Adaptations class. It was a five-week summer course and so it moved very quickly. The classes were four hours long and as such there was a lot of note taking. Inne is a full-blooded Korean, born in the USA, but she still makes a few grammatical mistakes when she speaks, like "the bird chirp" instead of the "the bird chirps", small stuff, no biggy, but you might notice that, and these mistakes might come from the part of the US where she grew up, or from being a native Korean-speaker, and she also has an ever so slight accent, but she is American that is for sure. She has excellent Power Point presentations that she has for the entire course. If your class was like mine you will not have a text book, you will have three smaller books, case studies, about different people, the Yanomamo of Brazil, the Yolmo of Melemchi in Nepal, and the Dobe/'Juhoansi of the Kalahari Desert. You should read the books, but she also has notes for everything, and she does a really good job of covering the parts of the books that she wants you to know for the tests. She uses the Blackboard to post an outline for the days notes so that you can print it up before you go to class, but you do not really need it, because she will have the same thing on the Power Point presentation. If you are not a good note taker then you are going to have a problem with this class because everything is from the notes, and there is a good portion of the notes that has nothing to do with the three books that you will read, so you can't miss any classes at all. Her tests are not easy, but at the same time they are not impossible. Sometimes she will cover a particular point for a brief moment in class and you might have two to three questions on the test about that thing, so make sure that you pay attention to everything that she says in class, and that you get it all down. Other times she might explain something in detail and there may be only one question. However she does have great study guides to use for the tests. She might give you like fourty study questions for each test, and she is available in her office hours for clarifications. As for her mood, some people have ripped on her pretty hard. She fits into all of the stereotypes that I have about Koreans, mostly good and some bad. She is a nice person and has a sense of humor, but she a no-bullshit type of teacher. She can come off kind of bitchy at times but in actuality she is very nice, she is just straight-forward and to the point. She never kisses butt, ever, she is not one of those kinds of teachers. She is very knowledgeable in anthropology because she has done quite a bit of field work. She was always able to answer any questions that I had, and she never had to say, "I am not sure, or I don't know", which was nice. I really am interested in anthropology, and this class only deepened my interest. Sometimes the class is dry, but at other times it is really interesting. The case studies are especially neat, but the reading at times dry. The "Dobe/'Juhoansi" is the best one in my opinion. I took a lot of notes, and I studied my butt off and I got an A-, but there is another guy in the class who didn't study at all, and hardly took notes and he also got an A-. The entire grade in the five-week class was dependent on the three exams, no extra work for points. All in all I would recommend this class to anyone interested in anthropology or anyone looking for an interesting upper-division class to satisfy their GE requirement. Inne is the perfect teacher for the course, I have no complaints. Go for it!

Dr. Choi is a knowledgeable, down-to-earth, interesting teacher. She presents the material (which I thought was quite interesting) clearly and easily explains concepts. Her tests are part multiple choice, which isn't difficult if you study the notes and study questions, and part essays. Lots of writing, and you have to hit specific points to get the grade, but if you know your stuff you'll do well. The averages were high. Attending class is definately a must since a lot of the reading is dry, a lot of the information is only presented in class, and her examples will help you understand.

Despite all the other great polyratings I read, I felt compelled to tell what I think about Choi. She doesn't respond to questions all that well. Basically, the info she presents is correct and there are NO outside inputs from students that are correct. She is not willing to help students that missed a class. I missed only one class(we happened to watch a video that day), and I asked if I could borrow, or watch the video in her office. She said NO she doesn't do that. All she told me to do was borrow a classmates notes. Basically, I felt she was extremely impersonable. She was a little bit nicer to the students she knew or recognized, but my advice would be to steer clear. It's not hard to get a B, because the material is so ridiculously stupid. But if you are looking for an interesting class, I would avoid her's. Also, she is a bias grader. She can be a real stickler when it comes to her questions on the test. They are very tricky.

Professor Choi's class was not one of the best classes I have ever taken. Granted it was only for GE, so maybe if you're into the whole anthro thing, you may actually like it. With the exception of a couple of movies, that weren't very good, the entire class is spent taking notes and looking at boring slides of some trips she has been on (which she attempts to relate to the material, but doesn't do it very well). The only homework in the class was to read three books which in all honesty were not that bad. Her exams (three of them) have a lot to do with the readings, so don't just skim, or ask someone what happened in the chapter you forgot to read; that won't cut it. Also, make sure not to miss a day because the amount of material she covers in one sitting is ridiculous and unless you know someone in the class you can get notes from, don't miss, it will be on the exams. She'll tell you straight off on the first day that she is a bitch, and she is right. She is definitely one of those profs that pushes their views on you and makes you feel guilty or stupid if you don't see things the way she does.

Inne Choi is a pretty good teacher over all. Her lectures are very clear and straight forward. She posts her lecture notes on black board so you can print them out before class. She discusses A LOT in class, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS GOING TO CLASS!!!!Her lectures are pretty interesting, sometime you have to listen to her go on and on about the environment and how horrible humans are to it, so be prepaired to appear human hating! ;) and be prepaired to have discussions in class, she LOVES discussion! she will like your class better if you guys discuss (trust me this is a good thing) I can see her being a real bitch at times, but she never was to our class cause we talked alot. Her tests are hard. the multiple choice tend to be tricky. Be prepaired to memorize the lecture notes. her tests are 90% lecture and 10% from the reading. Her essay questions I did not have trouble with but a lot of people complained. She expects TONS of information in the essay, make sure you understand the question being asked! she wants specifics! ASK ASK ASK! The reading isnt so bad, it is actually some what interesting, you could easily pull a B in the course with out even purchasing the books. She does not like to be bothered outside of class and this is VERY obvious if you go to an office hour, she is moody and can make you feel dumb for not knowing the answer. She answers questions in class no problem, so I would just wait until class time to ask questions. If i had to take another Anthro class I would definitly take her. The 2 hrs 2 days a week went by fast, and she gives you a 10 min break. She is actually pretty cool and has some interesting stories to tell. Not an "easy" class, but it is not unusually hard. If you are a slacker dont even bother! you will fail no question!

This class was pretty interesting. There is a lot of reading that you have to do if you want to do well in the class. Also, take good notes in class. She gives 3 tests, half of it is multiple choice and the other half is essay questions, which suck, but are fairly easy if you do the reading and pay attention in class. She is very passionate about her work and she was able to make the class interesting and fun. I recommend taking this professor.
