Kerry was a great professor. She is very enthusiatic about the subject, and whenever a student askes a question that she doesn't have the full answer to, she would go find out and answer the question during the next scheduled lecture. She was always prepared for class, and had fun little demos to show us from time to time. I felt like she truly cared about her students. This course includes three curved midterms (lowest midterm score is dropped) and a final. There are also six quizzes (lowest quiz score is dropped), which are mainly given on fridays when class attendance is low. Also, if a lot of students are missing, she gives extra credit pop quizzes that you are SURE to ace. I never went to her office hours, but I've heard from other students that she is really willing to help. She also gives the class her home number in case you really need to contact her on the evenings or weekends.

I had her for Chem 111 lab and she knows her stuff! You can easily tell she knows a lot about Chemistry and does not try to BS answers. I truly believe she wants students to understand the material and the concept of Chemistry. She offers a lot of help and answers clearly all the questions you throw at her. She tends to talk really fast though, but if you can't keep up, she will be happy to repeat whatever it was she said. Somehow, she can catch every little mistake you make on your quizzes and lab reports, so be careful for those significant figures and units!

Kerry was really nice. she did a lot of examples in class of the information we were learning. When someone asked a questiong in class and she didnt know the answer, she would come back the next day and tell us the answer.

Kerry was a super awesome lab teacher. it was my first lab and she was very efficient in explaining everything. I had to crash the course and she made everything work out easily. She is very understanding and helpful. You don't often get out early so be prepared to stay 3 hours sometimes, but it is pretty fun...a lot better than lecture atleast.

I think Mrs. Friend was an excellent teacher for 111. She's young and can relate to her students, and does fun demos in lecture like "elephant toothpaste"... all that color change and exploding chemistry stuff. She recognizes her own limitations and is correctable when she makes mistakes, which is always nice. She answers questions patiently and clearly.

The best teacher at Poly. Three tests and she drops one, Quiz every friday and she drops one of those too. I had her for lecture and lab. There are better lab teachers that take less time but if you are in her lab she will get to know you which makes the class that much easier. Take lecture with her and lab with ritter is my advice.

Kerry is such a great teacher. She is very helpful during class if you have any questions and is even more helpful during office hours. She provides handouts to the class that correlate with what material we would be learning that day which come in real handy for studying purposes. The only thing is that she is so excited about teaching chemistry that she tends to talk fast and provide a lot of info all at once, so you kinda have to remind her to slow down, but she is cool with it. Fair warning though..if you take the class during the fall she is all into Mole day, you'll see.

She is a really great person and knowledable about the subject, but it was not presented clearly. She is great as one on one help such as lab, but it is hard to stay focused in a lecture hall as she scribbles away on a small overhead. I recieved this grade mostly on my own account. Her grading policy is very fair, but the class and material is fast and tough.

Kerry is one of the nicest teahers I have had, BUT her teaching skills were not that good. I would recommend to take an SI class during the time you take her class because we learned the majority of the information from our SI teacher. Kerry has a difficult time of SLOWLY and clearly getting her knowledge across to her students. The handouts made the lectures a lot more clearer so always print those out prior to class. I felt the reason I did well was because of SI and my prior chem knowledge!

I had her for Chem 111 lab and while she's happy to answer all your questions and even go through all the calculations for you to see what went wrong (most professors don't care to find the time to do that) she's a bit hard. She expects you to be prepared for the labs and she gave us a quiz before we started every lab. I'm not sure if she's going to do that consistently in the next quarters because she asked us if they helped, and nobody seemed to like the idea. But she was always helpful and responded to emails quickly. But if you're not great in labs like I am, I suggest taking someone a little easier.

Kerry was an awesome chemistry teacher. She is extremely easy to talk to and is willing to help you in any way. The tests questions come straight from her lecture notes which she provides on blackboard. If you have a hard time with chemistry, I strongly recommend taking it from her.

This class takes work each week: reading, homework, and a quiz on friday. I wan't the biggest fan of chemistry before, but Friend does an amazing job of making it interesting and easy to understand. The tests are fair and she gives you study guides. Avoid missing class because she will have you do things differently from the book from time to time.

She likes to be called by her first name, but Prof. Friend's class is very straight foward and should not be a problem if you have taken any chemistry at all before. Even if you do not remember much, it still should be easy...She collects homework from the book once a week, and it should not be a problem either because she assigns homework that has the answers on the following pages. Tests can be a little tricky, on a couple of them, I was so close to an A but missed by one question. I would recommend Prof. Friend!

This class was SO much work. I had taken high school chem and understood all of the concepts but I still had to work for the B plus. However, Kerry was soooo sweet. STICK AROUND AFTER LAB. She is very helpful and will help you get the answers on the labs. She is extremely caring and really puts a personal touch on her teaching. LOVED her.

I highly reccommend taking Professor Friend. Her class consisted of 3 midterms, several quizzes and homework. She dropped the lowest quiz and exam grade, which was really helpful. She presented the material clearly and was an interesting lecturer. She tried really hard to keep the class interested and wanted participation. She also listened a lot to student input and always wanted to know what she could do be more effective. If you're looking for a great Chem teacher, she's the one!

First off, kerry is extremely personable. Get ready to know her daughter more than she did because she talks about her every day, and she is there alot. the class itself is not easy but not hard. if you go to lecture you will pass the class. take the quizzes seriously because they effect your final grade more than one wold expect. pay attention in lecture, study. and u will do fine. she is very FAIR.

Kerry loves chemistry and is extremely enthusiastic, you'll hear many a chem song from a fairly large collection. Chem 111 is not a breeze you have to work, I spent the most time studying for this class. Highly recommend doing the recommend problems for each chapter it really helps on the tests. At the beginning of the quarter I would just review the notes and what not and ended up with 70 and 72 on the first two tests but when I did the recommended problems and read the chapters for the last two tests I did significantly better getting an 84 both times, and one of those tests was the final. Often times material is covered fairly fast. Lab is not extremely challenging except the midterms which there are two. She is really strict on little details like significant figures and decimal points taking 1/2 point off each time there wrong, so pay attention at the beginning of the quarter when she teaches it or else it will continue to ding you for the rest of the quarter. I found the class fairly interesting and her demos most classes are really neat. I would recommend Kerry for chem 111.

Great teacher. Even though I got a C I guess I deserved it. She cares about her students and doesn't talk to us like we are her students more like we are her friend. That was a nice change of pace for a teacher. She is a great lady. Take her class.

Kerry is an amazing instructor. She is very willing to answer questions and extremely approachable. She keeps the class interesting with her demos and her upbeat personality. She really tries to get the material through to students. She hands out practice problems in lecture and assigns optional practice problems. The class can be challenging because you HAVE to keep up with material taught in class. Most of the new operations taught are an extension of previously taught ones.

One of my favorite teachers!! Really tries to make chemistry as fun and straightforward as possible. The class isn't too demanding if you keep up with studying and go to her office hours if you are confused about something. Come to class and humor her, she puts a lot of effort into entertaining the class with her lecture demos and chem jokes : )

Kerry is an excellent teacher. She is very enthusiastic about her work. There were weekly quizzes and tests about once every 2-3 weeks. There was no homework, only recommended problems. I strongly suggest you do the recommended problems. It would have helped me a lot had I done them. I only got a D in the class because I didn't do them and I kinda blew off the first 2 weeks of school. So take it seriously and do your work. Another word of advice..don't take this class your first quarter as a freshman.

Kerry is great at teaching because she understands and sympathizes with students. She knows we have a lot of information to cover and that we have other things going on with our lives so she tells us EXACTLY on the exams. Literally. She posts up previous exams so we know what we have to study for instead of muddling around in our notes and texts. I feel confident going into the classroom for a test and i feel like a million bucks after. Not one single teacher has had the power to do that to me since i got to Cal Poly because of their bullshit guessing games on the test.

If all teachers taught the way Kerry does, 1. We would all learn more 2. Cal Poly's average GPA would sky rocket. I spent my time in my highschool chemistry class sleeping or playing duct tape volleyball in the back. I came in knowing nothing and came out knowing a SHIT load. And it wasn't too difficult. Study for her tests, she gives you a lot of help in office hours. If you try semi-hard you can pull off A, don't be a dumbass take advantage of her great teaching.

LOVED HER! She is the best teacher I had my whole first year at Cal Poly. Chemistry is typically a tough subject, but the way she does her outlines and has you follow along in class it is very easy to understand. She gives practice exams before each test and as long as you can do those and know how to do everything on the outlines, you will do well. She is also just a very nice and approachable teacher who is always willing to help you. Take her for chem 111 and you won't regret it!

Kerry is a really great teacher. She makes class entertaining because she is truly interested in what she is teaching and uses creative ways to get the information across. On the first day of class she lit a balloon filled with hydrogen, it was awesome. Basically, all of the information she teaches is straightforward, she is always very clear about what is on the tests which makes you feel prepared going in for an exam. She doesn't waste your time with useless information, basically cutting the bullshit and getting to the point of what is important. I had a really hard time in chemistry in high school but Kerry did a great job of explaining everything and I can truly walk away from this class saying that I have learned something.

Kerry was great, I was struggling in this class because chem isn't exactly my strong point and she helped me so much. Go to her office hours, she is willing to help you if you ask questions. There is a quiz every week, usually pretty simple. There are 3 tests and a final and of the 3 tests she drops ur lowest grade. The lab is 20% of ur grade and she also drops the lowest lab grade. Also, do the study guides, they really help.

There are two lab midterms and no quizzes (thank goodness). I absolutely loved Kerry Friend! She is really enthusiasic and fun. We listened to country music, which made the labs more bearable! She doesn\'t waste time explaining the lab procedure; generally you just get right to it and she works on grading the pre-labs. Pre-labs for the current day and lab write-ups for the previous week are due at the beginning of each lab meeting. For our class she held office hours in our classroom before, which was super handy so we could check answers and ask others questions. The one stipulation that she has is CORRECT SIG FIGS! She is a stickler and she is proud of it! She gave out outlines for the lab midterms; do them! You should actually study/ prepare for them because they are not as easy as you think (they aren\'t hard per se, but just be prepared!) TAKE FRIEND FOR LAB! :)

Kerry Friend is the most unfair grader i have ever have to deal with. I will give just one example, but it occurred EVERY single week on my prelabs and labs. i did my entire 50 some question prelab and turn it in. Somehow, someway the total points for the entire prelab is only 23. I get one little part wrong that should have made my grade be 49 out of 50, but instead i get 20 out of 23. Now this may not seem like a big deal, but when you get 2 little things wrong then you get 17 out of 23 and so on. I had a A in lecture and a C in this stupid lab and it brought my final chemistry grade down to a B. Labs are not supposed to do that. I will never forget how BS the grading was for this damn lab. If i could go back i would not have taken this lady.

Kerry was a great professor and she made the class very fun and i learned a lot. Beware though do good on the first assignments because they are worth a lot of points and if you slack and do bad on them you will be behind and have lots of catching up to do like i did. Do very well on this course because it will help out the chem lec.

The most relatable professor I've had, Kerry is realistic with her students and is happy to help. This class is a lot of work with a prelab and lab due every week. There is a midterm and final which if you follow the study guide and look over old labs you can ace. Best advice I can give is to form a study group of some sort so you can look over labs before turning them in AND always look on polylearn because on some of the labs/ prelabs there are changes to be made that are listed on polylearn. Overall enjoyed this class a lot and the labs were very doable. Always were out no later than 2 hours
