Professor Fahy is an overall good English teacher. In the first half of the quarter you write one page essays on different literature. In the second part of the quarter you switch to watching the Sopranos and writing essays about them. This class is about being able to write consise, straight forward essays while being able to back up your argument with both refernces and your own comments. However, using imagery and trying to make your essay all elequent and stuff is not what is this class is about. Though the essays are only a page, he's a tough grader. Fahy's a funny guy and the class is pretty kick back. Fahy will greatly improve your writing skill and I encourage you to take him.

Dr. Fahy is a real good teacher. On the first few essays I got D-'s which sort of discouraged me. Although he is a tough grader, your writing skills will improve assuming that you take the chance and go to his office hours. On a one-on-one basis he tells you exactly what needs to improved and in turn your grade will improve.

Dr. Fahy isn't the worst, but he definitely isn't the best. He slowly over the course of several weeks tells you what your essays need to look like. So you basically write the first couple essays blind. You have no idea what he wants, and he is not an easy grader. As you actually find out what he wants, its gets easier. But it just is annoying that he doesn't tell you what he wants from the very beginning. I found his class extremely boring except when we watched films. I always felt like going to class was such a waste of time. Expect to be writing an essay a week. There are no breaks in his class.

Every class there is either a rough draft due, or a final due. Lots of writing, but its not unbearable. As for Fahy, he ... put ridiculous requirements and limitations on your essays so there was no way to just write what u want. I never got an essay grade of above a C-, and they weren't bad essays at all! He had this power trip about the lamest shit and always made sure to critique your essays so there was something "wrong" with it. Go ahead and take the class if your not a great writer because no matter what youll still get the same grade as the best writer in the class...a D+. He always gave either D+ or C-. good luck but I dont reccomend him...

I got a C because I spent about a half an hour on each essay he gave us. If I had taken the time to really try I probably could of gotten an B. He tells you what he wants after the second weeks and probably after your first essay got a D. If you start having trouble go to his office hours they REALLY help.

Dr. Fahy is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is by no means an easy teacher, but his class is very interesting, fun, and I guarantee you will learn a lot from this guy. There is an essay due every week, but they only have to be a page long, and you can do re-writes for a better grade. If you want an easy A, this is not the teacher for you, but if you want to take a class that you will truly enjoy there is no better professor than Dr. Fahy.

Dr. Fahy is a young guy and is really enthusiastic. His classes were pretty fun, it's mostly just discussion about the reading. I read one time all quarter and still pulled a C+. You do two essays, a midterm, a final, and a presentation. The tests are pretty killer, all blue book. He is very cool guy though. If you're looking for an easy teacher, Fahy is not your guy. But if you want to learn something, take him. I learned a lot about poetry and art and stuff and even though, I was challenged, I came out feeling more learned. I'd recommend him unless you really don't care and just want to cruise through this GE requirement. Overall, a cool teacher who is fun to be around and will open your eyes to a few new things.

excellent professor and class. if you find the subject (modern literature) even the slightest bit appealing and want to take an interesting (but also demanding) class, i highly recommend him. lots of reading, then the class time is spent mostly in a seminar where students are expected to participate A LOT. several very interesting books. in closing, lots of reading and a tough grader; dont take if you want to skate through the class.

Dr. Fahy is great. The presentations in the class are relatively easy, but the exams were a little tough. He is also a tough essay grader, but he only asks a lot of you so you actually will learn something. This is not a class you can simply cruise through and get a good grade, you have to read all the books and put some genuine thought into your essays. Although difficult at times, Dr. Fahy's class was fantastic and it was quite gratifying as well. I recommend you take his class not as a GPA booster, but as a class where you will actually be intellectually stimulated, unlike most of the other classes offered at Cal Poly. Props to you Fahy, i know you read this too.

If you want an excellent English professor, take Dr. Fahy! He makes his class very exciting and the time flies by quickly. He is very animated and you can feel his passion for literature and art in his lectures and discussion groups. The class work load is pretty heavy--we read 5 novels (which are pretty long), one short story, quizzes on each book, a 1-page essay, a 5-page essay, a mid-term, a final, and a group presentation(20 minutes long). If you review your in-class lecture notes and read the books, you should do well on the two exams. During class, you work in groups and then sit in a big circle discussing the books. I highly suggest you attend all class sessions, as Dr. Fahy gives credit for participation. If you want to enjoy an extraordinary professor and actually learn something, I highly recommend this class with Dr. Fahy. If you want to skate by and just meet your GE requirement, this class may not be for you. Dr. Fahy is one of Cal Poly's finest!

This guy loves to teach! Made the class exciting every time. Must do the reading for a good grade. Participation also counts so speak up. He has a way of making even the dumbest comments sound like good imput so nothing to worry about there. and dont underestimate the quizzes as they are detailed.

Dr. Fahy (pronounce like 'gay' with an 'F') is very enthusiastic and definitely got us interested in the material. Expect to write an essay and do a presentation. Besides that it's a pretty straight forward english class w/ tests, quizzes, reading, and discussions. The big difference tho, is that you will actually participate in class discussions and it will be pretty hard to fall asleep. I'm telling you, if you think this class is going to be boring, take it with Fahy and you should be pleasantly surprised.

Dr. Fahy is a great teacher, clearly outlines what is expected in the class and sticks to it. There is a group presentation in the class, but mine got pushed back so many times because he felt we needed more time to discuss the current book we were reading. Oh yeah, forget about actually reading the material, just go to sparknotes.com and you will find what you need to survive the class. I never read an actual book in the class and did just fine.

Awesome teacher. He made class time go by so fast because he is so interesting and fun to listen to. Take him at any chance that you get because you won't regret it. Come to class prepared and don't lose points on the quizes because that is how I got a B. An A is totally possible if you are prepared. Have fun!
