Cooper, Kevin  

Cooper presents dry material in a way thats understandable. His powerpoints are all online, but he goes into detail with them in class, so you should definitely either attend or have a friend in the class. His test questions are all multiple choice and T/F, and they can be a little bit tricky if you overthink them. Just go over his lecture notes, and you should be good. The term paper is definitely long, so at least give it a few days to procrastinate if you are going to. Overall, he's a good teacher for the material. Go to class, take notes, laugh at his jokes, and you're good to go.

Knowledgeable, professional yet great sense of humor, easy to talk to, fair testing & grading procedures, does not assign "busy work" – Easily one of the best professors I've had at Cal Poly.

GrC 329 is the usual really dry, classic printing class we've taken every quarter as GrC students thus far...with the edition of a 14+ page research paper. The content is so, so dull...especially at 8:00am! That being said, Cooper does a good job explaining things. He is a clear communicator. His tests are fair. Students like him as a person and he's a nice guy. It's just such a boring class, taught so early in the morning, that it's hard for anyone to be engaged.

I'm taking Cooper (you can call him Kevin) right now and remember he wasn't rated when I signed up for class, so this is my service to you. Cooper is a really cool guy, he asks his students to be prepared for class, and I have done so thus far, which basically means reading a 15 page case before each class. It seems like you could get away with not being prepared unless you get hit with one of his 3-4 pop quizes per quarter. He has one midterm, no final, a few fairly extensive homework assignments, and a big group project. He lets you decide how much each segment of your grade is going to be worth (within a range), which includes up to 30% of your total grade in participation. Cooper is a nice guy who is knowledgeable, fun, and cares about teaching. He makes it a point to listen to student feedback to improve his class in the future. In addition, he runs his class as a discussion, not a lecture, so he draws most of his main points out of students rather than just telling us them. This makes class much more interesting and informative. I feel like I am learning great stuff in this class which I can definately apply to my career in management, unlike my bus 391 and 494 lectures which are a ridiculous waste of time. I recommend Kevin Cooper to the fullest.

I have been reassured that there are still some upper division classes in the COB that are not a waste time. This is all thanks to KevCoop. Cooper's class consists of one individual midterm, a 30 page group paper, 3 open book quizzes, and attendance/participation. Attendance is required, but you will want to go to this class. Cooper does a great job of stimulating interest in management and strategy. I guarantee that a lot of his students, myself included, will seek strategic management positions at one time in their careers because he does such a good job of showing all of the interesting aspects of strategic planning. You can choose your weight for grades, but quite honestly grades are not that important to Cooper...so show up and learn and you are guaranteed a B. If you put forth some real effort on the paper (I forgot to do that) you'll have yourself an A. This guy has worked for Donnelly and Microsoft for several years and he will toot his own horn every now and then about his success because he misses it a little bit. He is basically retired because he had to have made a killing for what he was doing for Microsoft. He just moved away and decided to teach because he enjoys helping students and relaying his experiences to current trends and businesses. The money he makes as a professor probably looks like chump change compared to his paycheck from Bill Gates. Which all translates into the fact that he doesn't have to be doing what he is doing...he really enjoys it and he enjoys catering the class towards the wants of his students. Good guy...smart guy...probably the best professor for 401.

If you get the chance, take Cooper. He is very knowledgable in the subject matter and makes class very enjoyable to go to. Nothing is very difficult in the class, just quizzes(which are open book/note), 1 midterm, and a big company report instead of a final. I highly recommend him, this is one of the few business classes i got something out of.

By far one of the best professors in the business school. GREAT practical, straight forward and knowledgeable type of guy. A lot of real world experience. Doesn't like to use big words or get all technical. I learned a lot. All you do is talk about cases during class each day. The midterm is not bad if you prepare and he gives you a practice prior to the real one, it is done in your group. Our paper that we did for the quarter didn't take too long and we got a B. Pick a good group.

awesome! Super Microsoft guy! Knows his stuff!

Kevin was a good guy. He has a lot of real world experience that he shared with the class which I find much more beneficial than reading the book. Every week you read a case from the book and then you talk about it in class. 3 open book pop quizes(I never read the chapters and usually suck at these but they were really easy!) There is also a group Midterm and Group Company report 30pg max due at the end of the year. Don't worry this class is no where near as groupwork intensive as Org.Behavior. This class was easy going except for you and your group will probably procrastinate on the report and find yourself busting your asses on it in the end. Cooper did a good job making this class relevent instead of making it seem like crap like Org.Behavior was.

His lectures are really really dry so make sure you have lots of coffee before attending lecture. All he basically does is talk & talk the entire lecture period and goes off of powerpoint slides (which he doesn't post until AFTER lecture). He packs a lot of information into the 10 weeks, so make sure you keep up with everything and stay on top of things. His quizzes end up being worth a lot since there isn't a midterm, so it helps to keep up w/ them.

Kevin is a great professor, one of the best I had at Cal Poly in all four years. He's laid back & cracks jokes, but maintains professionalism. (That sounds like a contradiction, but somehow COOPER PULLS IT OFF!) His tests are always fair; Students who say he writes unfair tests are clearly not studying/paying attention/attending class... Go to class, put your computer away, stop texting, and get involved in the conversation. Kevin is a great guy!

I will concede that this was his first time teaching a very intensive major course of which he was not familiar with. He has some interesting stories about his experiences which i really like to listen to. He made us do a lot of case studies-they were interesting...but i think he also didn't realize that he was teaching GrC students with no previous experience with business-he kept trying to draw information out of us that frankly wasn't always there. His grading style is very strange, confusing and suspicious. He seems very open to criticism and willing to answer questions. I have only had him for this one GrC class, so overall he might be a great business teacher.

The class itself is very intense a lot of group work and presentations every week. His tests are fair and the readings are not that bad. As for the lab Cooper is very judgemental and has a favorites list (i.e. if you are not blonde and blue eyed you are not on it.) I felt like I could never please him and got marked down on stupid things, I felt that he was not good at grading the presentations in a fair manner and he almost wanted us to make asses out of ourselves to get a great grade. I did not come here for this.

Sorry but this guy can't teach. He is very AR and loves to tell people what to do and what not. The world doesn't revovle around you Cooper! Just because he was the manager of this big company he wants to be respected by all. The class keeps quiet because everyone wanted to leave faster. One thing you'll notice is he loves to praise himself in class. It's been proven over time that he can't write questions for tests very well. Something that could be written very simply, he put into words that the class doesn't understand. It's insane. It didn't matter if you memorized the whole text book. All other GrC professors are cool but this guy doesn't fit in the family.

Kevin is a serious assett to the GRC family. He requests and listens to student feedback constantly. After every exam you're given the chance to email him if you feel a question was unfair. If you present your argument well, he'll give you the credit. When going over an test he asks what types of questions you want on the next exam. You get to create you're own grading sheet for presentations so you are graded on what you feel is important. The lecture is really a discussion, and students are asked to participate by giving their opinions. His door is always open during office hours to make students feel welcome, and he responds to emails immediately. If you don't put anything into the class, don't speak up and voice your opinion early on, don't go into his office hour and talk to him, don't pay attention to lectures and only wait to be dismissed, and don't go into class with the plan on actually learning something... then you won't get anything out of his classes. Kevin is not the type of teacher that caters to lazy students.

Professor Cooper is knowledgeable in his field. He is a very dedicated professor who also brings not only real world expereince to his lectures but also is very down to earth and welcoming to all of his students. He is very open to feedback, he actually encourages it- so you really have a greater sense of empowerment as a student. He is helpful but also expects a lot out of you as a student. However he puts ALOT of work into his lectures and labs, so you almost dont mind working hard becuase in the end there is ALWAYS a method to his madness (And its not really madness just professionalism).

Cooper is a great teacher, I have to admit that I was a bit lazy with studying for some of the tests, and that will reflect, but if you just read the text you should do fine. The lectures are interesting and easy to understand. This class has really helped my presentation abilities and I feel prepared me if on nothing else, on teamwork. Take this guy, you won't be disappointed.

Cooper is awesome! He is unlike any professor I have ever had. He is definitely top notch in the GrC department and he totally cares about his students. Naturally I would not be into the classes he teaches, but basically he is inspirational and they have been really enjoyable. I have learned so much from him! I don't know how anyone could say he can't teach, maybe you just can't learn. Mark Curry has nothing on Kevin..."Cooper, Coooper, gonna tear the house down!"

Cooper is a great lecturer for GrC and is very helpful in any way possible. The lab material was interesting, but it was in no way relevant to lecture. The final project is to present a three hour lab to the rest of the class with your group. The final project took a lot more time than necessary, but the class in general wasn't too horrible.

It pretty much sucks that you have to take him because he always teaches it. Hopefully Macro ends up taking over for all of your sakes. My whole college life I always didnt mind having him. He was never my favorite but at least I respected him. Up until my last quarter. Professor Cooper lost all of my respect. He is rude and doesnt listen or apologize when he knowingly disrespects his students. I wish he hadnt ruined my last experience at CP as he did. Avoid him if you can, or just remember that it really doesnt matter what you do in class (ie. your 3 hour presentation) he already has your grade figured out before you even start.

I was a bit worried about how I would do in Kevin's class, as he requires a 3-hour presentation/workshop at the end of the quarter. It ended up going very smoothly and he was supportive of my severe anxiety issues. Also, he is very funny and keeps things light in both lecture and labs. He is not bad to look at either!

Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.
