Dr. Clemens is not a very good teacher. She knows the material, which is very clear, however she does not do a great job of teaching it to the class. She uses the computer monitors to allow everyone to see her notes, however it is just like watching TV, just with a really loud voice in the background, which makes you want to fall asleep. I had taken two full years of chem at highschool (including 1 year of AP, which went more in depth than this class), and I still wasn't able to do well on the tests, mostly because of the fact that they are very difficult and have questions unrelated to the material covered in class. The final is VERY hard, so make sure you study everything you think, and don't think you will need to know. She doesn't curve anything so be very careful about your grade. The average for our class' final was a D- and she still didn't curve it! I would say take someone else, but from what I have heard, she is the best of the lower level chem teachers, so good luck :/

Dr. Clemens is a great instructor. You MUST work, however. Studio Chem is not really a class to take for granted. No curves, as stated previously, so you NEED to know the material very well. GO to office hours. Read, and DO at least some of the suggested homework. She has a thorough understanding of the material and is willing to help you out. You must tread through the workload, and yes, the final is HARD. (Study!)

First of all, if you are a lazy type of a person, I recommend taking Clemens cuz she makes it so that you almost never have to read the textbook. She gives you tons of textbook homework but most of the questions for the quiz/tests come from her worksheets and she doesn't collect the textbook homework so you dont have to worry about those. Her lectures are pretty clear and easy to understand as long as you have average intelligence. One thing I really like about this teacher is that she always gets straight to the point and does not confuse you with nonsense bullcrap. There's no curve on quizzes or tests but if you prepare for them they are not so bad. Her tests and somewhat hard and has lots of trick problems on it. (so be very careful when taking her tests). The final is hard as hell so never expect that you can raise your grade after the final. Cuz that's just simply impossible. If you work somewhat hard you should get at least a solid B

What can I say about Dr. Clemens? first, the positive: she really does know what she's talking about. Her office hours can be very valuable. She is always willing to help you. And there is not too much homework. Now the negative: her tests are absolutly ridiculously hard, a good score is a C, the class average was usually a C-. Her lectures are boring. I had to study my ass off to pass this class. I CAN NOT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH HOW HARD HER TESTS ARE. The class average for the final was 59% (and it was multiple choice!) If you're a really good test-taker, you can do alright. But if your not, I would strongly recommend someone else.

Dr. Clemens is great! She gives clear, concise lectures that cover all the material so you won't have to read the book if you don't want to. I never did a single homework problem and got a B. Study you're notes and quizzes and the tests are very similar. Overall she is a fun, upbeat teacher and i would reccomend her to anyone.

Clemens is HOT!! Seriously, the first day, I walked in and almost hit on her. Anyway, chem is fucking hard, but she is one of the best out there. She has ridiculously hard tests, but besides that you actually learn something. Pick her over the other teachers, mainly because the others are so bad.

Clemens has got to be one of the better teachers in this school. Chem by nature is hard, so obviously she isn't going to make it so easy that all you have to do is show up to get an A. You're going to have to work hard out of class to understand it all. However, there will be no other teacher that will make it any more clear or be any more fair. If you take another teacher, you will not have any better of a time. She's good.

Dr. Clemens was a good instructor. She has a good understanding of the material. Her tests aren't too hard. Overall I enjoyed the class and would take her again for any other chemistry classes I needed. There was no curve, so the grade you get is the grade you earned.

dr. clemens was great. chem 124 is naturally a hard class, but she presents the material in a fashion that is easy to understand. i didnt remember anything, and i mean anything, from high school chem; but that was no problem in this class because you are given the opportunity to work hard and succeed. yes i did work my ass off to get the grade i did in this class, but itis not impossible. go to her office hours, they help if you are having trouble with anything. there is no homeowrk in the class, just a lot of studying and labs. spend about 15 hours a week on this class and you should solidify an a as i did. good luck!!!

How should I begin...Dr. Clemens is actually not such a bad teacher. I totally hated chem before I came to her class but I actually had some fun in her class. Since the class I took was a lecture/lab hybrid, we sat in clusters of lab desks staring our computer monitor while she lectured over the PA system. Overall, her lectures are evenly balanced between concepts and examples. They were pretty clear until near the end of the quarter when she started making mistakes. There was no mandatory homework (except prelabs) but we had a quiz every Friday. It IS possible to get high scores on her midterms/finals...you just have to understand the concepts really well. If you have a problem, she is VERY approachable and will help you through your problems. If you want a good grade...she's not the easiest grader (I've seen quite a few classmates get reamed in her class). However, that depends on you. If you want to learn...you will get a good grade. If you don't...

Dr. Clemens is a good teacher. She was fair, nice, and helpful. Sometimes her lectures were confusing(especially the band gap lecture) but overall, she was able to explain things clearly. And she was very helpful during her office hours. While I would not go as far to call her a great professor, she definatley is a good one and probably the best chem 124 teacher there is.

Dr.Clemens can be a very confusing teacher at times. She writes incredibly quickly on the board, and just expects everyone to follow every step. She is one of those people that chemistry comes very easily to , and she can't understand how it can be difficult for some people to understand. One great thing about her though is that you can go to her office hours (she makes herself EXTREMELY available), and she will explain things over and over again until you understand.

Dr. Clemens was a very fair teacher. Her lectures did go quite fast and at times after the lecture I was really confused. I went to her office hours a lot and she explained everything again clearly and I understood afterwards. She always willing to help in her office hours. She does curve at the end. Overall I would take her again she was really nice and helpful.

I learned that if I were to take up hunting, I should shoot deer, not bears, because a bear will hunt me back if I successfully wound it. Fascinating! I didnt know that the key to production and operations management was so brutally simple!

Clemens is a nut case... and she is NOT hot (ignore that one evaluation on this page). She confused me time and again in lecture by mixing up vocabulary terms and relaying the wrong information which really pissed me off! Had there not been a nerd sitting in the front row to correct her every sentence, who knows how skewed my understanding of biochem could have been. Her midterms were only 100 points each, but she has you study 5-7 chapters worth of material at a time, so there's alot of prep involved when preparing for the tests. I have never studied more hours on end for one single class... even CHEM 312. If there's any solice, she at least curves for your final grade in the class which is probably how I got a B+. And I heard she's impossibly hard for lab, so take Shroyer... I've never had an easier lab in my nutrition major.

I am a professor here at Cal Poly, in a different College however, and if you want a reason why faculty hate polyratings, you've got your reason right here. The punk below, under a cloak of anonymity, feels like he can write anything, including mean-spirited misogynistic drivel, with no retribution or challenge. Dr Clemens was not fired, her contract was up, she took maternity leave and moved to another college to teach. Do you think that someone who teaches a course, perhaps failing a few students, really deserves the kind of ugliness below? Why would anyone want to teach here, especially if we have to endure little pricks like yourself? It is a good thing that your comment was anonymous, because those of us who knew her and adored her -- including many students -- would rightly make you answer for your stupid and mean-spirited remarks. And it wouldn't be pretty.
