I pity every person in CD who has to take CD 102. In this class I feel like we did nothing. The only thing good about it were the guest speakers and the books we read. Since the class was team taught it seemed like the teachers were fumbling among themselves many times to put together a lecture. Please don't judge the CD major by this class!!! This class does get you acquainted with the teachers who are all wonderful people, and who are very personable, and I encourage you to go to them for help if you feel like you are stressed out or need help in any way. Denise is an excellent professor, but she has trouble speaking in front of big groups, like CD 102, bear with her, CD 209 is SOOOO much better. Hope this helps.

When you take CD 102, it is taught by Denise on Mondays and Bette Jean Tryon on Wednesdays. Denise is probably one of the sweetest people you will meet in your life. She is totally there for all the students and she will remember you and say hi to you in the halls and takes a personal interest in you. She tries to make the class interesting and brings in a lot of people who work in things that involve child development which is probably the most interesting thing in the course. There is one book you have to read and there are "quizzes" on it but the quizzes are really midterms. They are pretty easy so don't stress. There is one project at the end where you try to find professions in SLO and make a poster and do presentations, its pretty interesting and isn't too awful. I won't lie, most time I wondered why I even bothered going to CD 102, but that isn't Denise's fault, its just that it doesn't have a lot of bulk to it and its like 1st grade but just get it over with and enjoy that it is so easy.

I thought it would be very interesting learning about young children's development in education. The material in general was interesting, but not the instructor. She just talked and talked and talked- she talked like she was nervous. The lecture material presented in class was not at all on the tests. She assigns about 3-4 chapers to read and answer questions on. There were about 25 questions from the text and about 10 of the questions were on the tests. I found this to be very difficult because about 7 were multiple choice and 2-3 were essay. You had no clue which ones were going to be tested on. I once asked her for help on how to study for the test- and she said "As long as you know the answers to questions you'll be fine." She didn't help me specifically. :( Needless to say- material covered in class was never used on anything (like tests) It did help to go to class to get credit for small group questions done sometimes.

Denise Daniels truly cares abot her students. Her class is full of interesting information however if you dont appreciate learning about children this is probably not the right class for you. Her tests are hard to study for mainly because she will give you a study guide of which there are 15-20 in depth questions, but will only ask you on three of them. The tests consist of 10 mc and 3 short essay. We had to write one observation paper but this wasnt hard. Over all I would highly suggest taking a class from Denise again.

Denise is an excellent professor who truly cares about her students. Don't EVER hesitate to go and talk to her, she is very understanding about the many things that college kids face today. You have to do a child observation paper, which is REALLY easy. It's about 5-6 pages, and basically everyone gets an A. If you don't get the grade you want you can re-write it and get a higher grade!!!! The quizes are easy, and you should just know the review questions that she gives you. The book takes a while to read, but it is very interesting. Also she makes lectures interesting, which is always a plus. She likes class participation a lot, which is basically only possible if you actually read the chapter beforehand.

This is a really interesting class with some really great information. Denise is a really good teacher who does a really good job at explaining the topics and making them as interesting as possible. There are five quizzes throughout the quarter, but they are more like tests and you really need to study for these. There is also a lot of reading, but overall it really is a great class and very interesting, I would definetly recommend it and Denise!

She's kind of boring. You don't even really have to come to class except that she shows videos and you have to do write ups on them. I didn't learn anything new, I learned all of the material she presents in CD 203. There are quizzes every other week, study and you'll get an A. The paper was easy and you don't have a final just a group project. If you have to take this class, don't worry, it's easy, but if you can take it with another teacher do so.

Denise Daniels is an excellent teacher who truly cares about her students. If you ever have any problems or dificulty understanding she is always willing to help you out. For about seven weeks of the quarter you will do rotating assignments: the lab, library, book work, and a discussion with Denise. Your major project of the quarter is to complete a research review, which when first sarted seems overwhelming but it is broken down into smaller parts with Denise leading you all the way. There are three quizzes, do the review questions at the end of each chapter and you'll be fine...oh and the second and third quizzez are open book! The final is a round table discussion where everyone talks about the research they reviewed...if you are a psych or CD major some of the topics can be really interesting. Overall this class was good.

Dr. Daniels is very student oriented. She plans the class out so you get a chance to work in all different areas and then spend some time in small groups with her and one on one with her. She is very easy to ask questions to and makes the class run very smoothly. I really enjoyed her teaching style and her knoweledge of the area she teaches in. I would highly recommend her as a professor to anyone! She makes the class easy yet not too easy and still interesting.

It is definitely true that she is student oriented. She always takes time to make sure the students are understanding and enjoying the material. Any paper or presentation you have to do, she lets you choose your topic so it is something you are very interested in. She chooses interesting readings for homework and you write on them in class, comparing them or tying them together which actually ends up being very interesting. She is extremely approachable and understanding. i definitely recommend her!

Dr. Daniels has a very kind heart and seems to really enjoy her job. She is consitantly asking for students opinions and repeating how it is SO important to make connections. There is nothing definitive to learn from her course, and nothing really relates. She has few strong attitudes/opinions towards child rearing, but nothing to say about education besides the fact that it needs to look more like a Japanese classroom. She is a nice person and does want you to do well in her course though. I appreciate her efforts. (and also the A I got!)

Dr. Daniels is one of the sweetest professors at Cal Poly. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She was always helpful when I went into her office hours for help in classes or as an academic advisor. She would be honest and very supportive. You can just tell by the way she talks to you that she really wants the best for you. CD 350 was a great class. The lectures are long, but Dr. Daniels has group projects that make the class more fun. We had two group projects and both were fun and not difficult. What I loved most about the class were the videos we watched in class. I find myself referring back to the videos in this class for assignments in my other classes. The exams weren't intimidating because she would call them "quizzes". As long as you did your readings and go through the study guide, you'll be fine. She also gives candy out before exams. Awesome professor.

Professor Daniels cares about students but does not make lecture interesting or present interesting information. She assigns readings, most of which are boring, but are not really necessary for her quizzes. Her quizzes are mostly common sense oriented and easy. There is a group presentation that is basically just adding a few things onto whatever topic you sign up for so it is easy as well. Not a hard class and an easy A, but don't really learn anything.

is an interesting class with interesting topics, but the teacher is very bland and just kind of goes through the motions. dont get very much student involvement, just lecture, and lots of videos. she is really wierd too! kinda has a nervous annoying laugh, and just kinda seems fake, but maybe thats just the way she is. cares about the students but a very bland class, which is sad becuase this is one of the final classes a CD major is supposed to take. and oh yea a whole lot of reading!

This was one of my favorite CD classes and seemed to really bring out Denise's strengths. Her lectures may be harder to pay attention to in other courses (CD 431), but I think she did an excellent job teaching this class. Denise is very knowledgeable and extremely helpful to all her students. The class consists of a group project and a few quizzes that have fairly specific questions but its a great class to synthesize much of what we learn as CD majors.

Dr. Daniels is a really nice lady. She is very caring and willing to help her students. She is very knowledgeable about child development and cares a lot about the children and her students. However, sometimes classes can be really boring. This class is a repeat of things you learned in other CD classes so the material is mostly redundant. There are other things you learn about in this class but it is not an exciting class.
