This professor is a very hard grader and has favorites towards male basketball players. He doesn't explain the level of writing he wants from you clearly, and he doesn't help you recognized your weak points, nor gives any guidness to how to improve your writing. He does give spelling test on common words you should know at college level. The reading is enjoyable. He try's to be flexable with office hours, but it's like pulling teeth. If he believes your not ready to handle 134 material he will not pass you. You must have @ least B-'s on your paper's to pass or for him to believe that you won't struggle in 134.

Mr. Feldman was pretty cool. It was easy to stay awake in class and he doesn't ask too much of his students. If you don't like english this is the teacher to take. I hate english, but i enjoyed his class. He asks you to write four take home essays and they are all short. The only thing i didn't like was that my grade dropped a lot after the final essay and i don't know why.

Professor Feldman is a very tough grader. However he is a great teacher and after having taken this class I fell confident I can pass the WPE next year. He is challenging but you will learn a lot and he is a very cool guy. If you can go to his office hours as much as possible cause he will give you all the help that you can handle.

Mr. Feldman is a great guy. He may be a little hard on grading essays but overall he is a great guy. He always has a smile on his face and is really helpful in the class lectures and comments that he makes. Use his office hours because though he might go off on a random story tangent while you are in his office he really helps you improve your essays and explains what you need to change to get a good grade. I would totally recommend Feldman...he is such a sweetie!

Do not take Feldman if you can avoid it! I spent 30 hours on 4 papers and did all my homework, wrote my in class essays, read the book, and received a c+. His grading is impossible! Went to office hours a few times and still - a C. He knows his information well, but if you arn't an english major don't bother - just drags down your gpa

This is a great teacher. He is willing to help you as much as you want to be helped. His grading is not too hard or too easy. As long as you show up to class and you put effort into your out of class essays a B should be a easy grade to get.

Feldman is an awesome english lecturer. You really learn a lot from his class and he pushes you to bring out your best writing. Although the guy knows a lot, he is an extremely hard grader, but as long as you show an interest to improve and use his office hours, it is not hard to pull out a B or higher in the end.

Feldman, lol...well he is an interesting guy. Cool at times, but i just hate english to begin with. We read the most boring book ever, Things Fall Apart, and we went over it every single day and i just couldnt take it anymore. Plus, he grades harsh on the essays, consider yourself a great writer if you can get a B on an essay. Four out of class essays and three inclass essays, each worth more of your grade as the quarter progresses. If your not a great writer like myself, i suggest taking your essays to the writing lab to get looked at before turning it in, trust me it can make a huge difference. Feldman can be entertaining and rather dull at times, so take him if you just want to get by.

HE TOLD ME I WAS DOING EXTREMELY WELL IN HIS CLASS...THEN I ENDED UP WITH A C...AXTREMLY WELL TO BE IS LIKE A B+ OR AN A...i would advice you not to take this teacher....take any other teacher but this one....i don't even think he gives A'S there probable was around 3 B's in that class and the rest got low grades!!!!!!!!!

Feldman requires your attendance at all class times unless you have an excused absence. If you have more than two unexcused absences then you are automatically in danger of failing. With that aside, he is a very nice person to approach and is helpful during his office hours. He grades a little on the harsh side, and I do not think anyone in my class received an A. You cannot just bs your homework because he actually reads everyone's assignments. There are three in class essays (make sure you use the entire class period to write it, even if you are done early; you will get a better grade on it). There are also 4 take home essays. If you go to his office hours for advice or the writing lab, you will get a good grade.

Feldman was a cool guy, but his grading on essays is really tough. I\'m pretty good writer and I struggled to get an A-. Some of the things he marks down on for essays I don\'t agree with. He doesn\'t like you to use third person singular (like using \'he or she\' or \'one\'), he\'d rather you use third person plural (\'their\'). I was taught that using \'one\' is acceptable, but he marked me down on that. But I noticed that he really tried to work with students who weren\'t as well at writing as I am and he really helped them become better writers. If you want to become a better writer then take the class. But if you just want an easy A, take a different class. He definitely makes you work for an A.

This class requires a huge workload for a 4 unit GE. Lots of essay writing, not too much reading, 1 group debate, 3 in-class essays, and a 10 page research paper, and moderate homework make up the syllabus. Feldman has a somewhat offensive (if taken literally) sense of humor. This class is very time consuming but essential for writers interested in improving their skills. The first essay can be rewritten and the debate can never lower a student's grade, so there is some leeway. Don't take this class lightly. If you are willing to work hard, you will do well.

Professor Feldman is an awesome teacher, and if you are willing to work hard he will be there to help you. If you have any problems with the essays or the homework, just ask, and he will always be willing to clarify. There's a lot of writing involved in the class- 3 take home essays and a few in class ones as well, and he gives homework each class, but usually it only takes about 20 minutes to complete. There's also a group debate towards the end of the class, but it's pretty easy to pull together. Overall, he's an incredible teacher, and I'd definately take him again if given the opportunity.

Feldman rules!!! He is the COOLEST prof I've had at Poly so far. He truly cares about his students and is super helpful, so if you take him I highly suggest going to his office hours. Class is always fun AND it will make you a better writer, which is extremely important in college and life. The first day might make you want to drop and take an easier class, but stick with it and you'll be glad you did.

Feldman is probably the best English teacher at Poly. Don't get me wrong he assigns homework every class or almost every class, ok really like only nine homework assignments, but he goes over the homework when he assigns it and when he returns it. There are three in class essays and two out of class essays and one 8-10 page paper due as the final. But there are various points where you turn in your work in progress on the final paper so its impossible to leave it until the last minute which actually helps a lot. He's very helpful in his office hours. I definatley learned something from him. If you actually want to learn something from an interesting man, take him. He'll improve your your writing skills by 100 times, he's kind a of a tough grader but realy fair. If you have problems ask him and he's more than willing to help.

English 145 is not a class that needs a great professor, and as such, it's hard to get a true feel for how Feldman would do in a real english class. However, I'd say he'd be a good professor to take. He genuinely loves english, but can get a little annoying sometimes. Oh, and if you go to office hours be prepared for the possible hour long pointless conversation about life and politics with him. Overall though, if you can take Feldman, do.

Ok~ First off, if you are just looking to find a easy way to fulfill area A3, take a different class, he'll tell you this too, there are easier ways to get credit for that requirement. The thing is, if you take this class your going to learn how to become a better writer which is the point of this class. Furthermore, Feldman is a great Professor, he loves teaching and its apparent through his character and how he treats his students. He is very helpful at office hours, and is willing to help you on homework or just talk to you about baseball or life in general. Requirements of the class: 3 in class essays (easy), 3 at home essays (average 3 pages in length)(medium), and one large research paper (10 pages) that goes through about two group discussion sessions. Thats about it except for the occasional homework which is very easy to complete. He is a relatively tough grader, but very, very fair. For instance on the in class essays, the lowest score you will get is a 74% because if you fail the requirements, he doesn't want it to kill your grade but he does want you to know that it wasn't at par with what you should be writing. Great teacher, take him if you can!!

I'm not sure if he actually teaches in this class. He reads a lot out of the text book and emphasizes subjects that could be regarded as unimportant. The class requires a lot of work, 3 take home essays, 3 in class, and one big research paper. He grades papers fast and is available for help.

The most important thing to know about Feldman is that he grades hard. If you choose to take Feldman's class, you better be prepared to give a solid effort if you hope to get better than a C. You'll have to do three in-class essays, three take-home essays (3-4 pages), an 8-page research paper, and about nine homework assignments (about 2 pages each for a good job). There was also a few quizzes that made up a very small percentage of the grade. You must be a good writer to get an A with Feldman. If your goal is learning and improving your reasoning and writing, then I strongly recommend Feldman to you. He's very approachable and unless you're easily offended (he tells it like it is), you'll see him as a friend. I thought his grading was a tiny bit harsh, but considering how much I enjoyed the class, I'd take him again if given the chance. Feldman's not for everybody, but I'd recommend him to most people.

feldman is by far the worst english teacher i have ever had! if you arent an extreme liberal like he is than he will not give a grade higher than a 78 on anything no matter how much you tried on it. his grading is very subjective and cases have been pointed out where the student has turned in thier paper twice and feldman gave the student a 76 the first time and an 83 the second time. he just randomly picks a grade to give you for your essay and there is no way of telling how he got it. He just pulls it out of his a$$. No matter how hard i would try on assignments a grade of 77 would always be the result, this happened with multiple peers in the class as well. Very worthless class! i think i wrote papers better before i took the class it was an absolute waste of time. But if your happy with a 77 on everything you do go ahead and take feldman for 145.

This teacher is TYPICAL DEMOCRAT. And all you will discuss in class is George Orwell, George Orwell, George Orwell. His grading is also very biased. If you're a girl, kiss his ass and you will be fine. For the guys, good luck. He will try to drag you through the mistakes he made as a college student (dropping out), and blame it on the teachers not teaching him well enough. So he's got an extra mission---. My worst teacher at Cal Poly so far.

I took Credit/No Credit because i read that he was a hard grader on here. WRONG. He is at the worst a fair grader and probably a little easy. I did all of my essays the day they were due in about 3 hours, then hardly changed them for the final draft. I got B's on all of them, with little work put into them. 3 papers (3-4 pages), 1 research paper (10 pages), 2 in class essays, ~6 HW assignments (1-2 pages each). Not too bad, BUT: strict attendance policy rambles very political(it gets annoying, even if you agree)

Overall not a bad teacher, but he does get on tangents a lot. Sometimes it feels like the class is a waste of time because he spends a lot of time reading right out of the book to us or on a tangent about how he used to be a bar tender or how kids these days shouldn\'t smoke cigarettes. I think he\'s a fair grader, though, and the work load isn\'t too bad. His research paper for 145 might be more work than other 145 teachers, though

I thought Feldman was a good professor. I showed up late most days, but did a good job on the assignments so he didn\'t seem to mind to much. He does talk about politics and girls, but i didn\'t find it too disruptive. Get your stuff done and you will be fine. I definitely recommend him.

I literally have nothing good to say about Mr. Feldman. He is the most subjective grader I've ever seen and I learned absolutely nothing from his class. I WOULD NOT recommend him for anyone. In fact, I would recommend he get fired. However this spring quarter is his last quarter so there's no use in trying. He might be an okay person, but his teaching was utterly pointless and terrible.

Listen- this is the most helpful polyratings evaluation you will ever read if you are considering Felman's class. First of all, Feldman is a funny guy, he makes some hilarious comments in class about sex and drugs which is fun. On the other hand, other than those few moments of crazy digretions, his lectures are unbearably boring and useless. What's worse is that you HAVE to go to class EVERY DAY... or else it will come to haunt you later on (but not in any quantifiable way). Felman's grading system is 100% subjective... He decides what grade you will get before he even reads your paper. Therefore... if you have missed a few lectures, you better believe no matter how eloquent and grammatically correct your paper is, you're still going to get a c+. I knew a girl who accidentally turned in an essay twice and when she got them back, she got a 75 on one and an 85 on the other. If you must take this class, my only words of advice are go to class every day and BRING COOKIES at least once a week, you may just get an A.

Feldman's grading system is nonexistent. He will decide within the first week what your grade will be. If you dont use the full two hours for your in class essay, you wont pass. guaranteed. I tried less and less on each essay and my grade stayed the same on all of them. Act like his class is your number one priority and suck up to him as much as you can and you might get an A. Oh, attendance is mandantory, but pointless. He reads to you from the book .. .and what he is reading is the reading you were assigned for homework. amazingly boring. good luck. ha ha

"taght me how to rite well..." hmm if you are a person who would like to improve your writing skills, this is not the class for you. feldman reads the reading to you in class and rants when he isnt reading. im actually not quite sure what the class is supposed to be about. like others have said, if you dont go see him in office hours or suck up, you will get a grade equivalent to how long you spent on the in class GWRs. rant with him and you will do well. otherwise, dont waste your time in this class; it will hurt your gpa

Mr. Feldman seems to have knack for complaining and boring you to death. The entire quarter all he did was complain, read essays to the class that we had already read or dote on the girl he picked out to be his muse. Honestly, TRY NOT TO TAKE HIM! He's knit-picky about attendence, even if you're sick, and once he has an opinion of you he won't budge. Probably the worst professor I've had at Poly...

This class was extremely dull. Nearly the entire quarter was spent listening to Feldman recite each of the essays assigned that week. For a professor so adamant about attendance, he fills the each class meeting with his meaningless feelings about every essay instead of promoting a real class discussion about the work. If there is even a hint of discussion or disagreement with his opinion, he will try to just move on. In addition, he seems to decide what grade you will get at the beginning of the quarter, and he will give you at best, your first essay score +10%. I did pick up a few writing skills in this class, but I feel that it was taught so poorly that any potential for improvement of the class' writing skills was wasted. Discussion of writing techniques took up about two class meetings. This was an easy class to get a B in, but a terrible waste of my time. Feldman does not teach advanced composition; he seems to be stuck in freshman comp.
