ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: C Required (Support) 7:44 pm, Dec 13, 2012 Report Evaluation		A decent professor that teaches you real-world skills and truly cares about your success as a future engineer. However, her expectations can be VERY obscure. I managed to get an A in ENGL 134 but only received a C+ in this class (Really? I didn't even earn a B-?). Completing this class only made me realize how very unprepared I am for the professional workplace after college-- at least right now. I truly have a long (and difficult) road ahead of me before I am ready to work anywhere for anyone. Hopefully you won't feel the same way...

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 7:07 pm, Dec 12, 2012 Report Evaluation		I have never done a Polyrating but I truly think Sherrie deserves this one. Her class is very demanding and she is a pretty tough grader. But what I did was take most of my assignments into her office hour and talked them over with her and she was very happy to help. This helped me alot. The only reason I got a B+ instead of an A was the white paper which I procrastinated way too much on. I think I have learned the most material from this class that I can actually take into the real world and would recommend Sherrie to anyone if they actually want to learn about becoming an engineer. She really cares about where students are going in the future and its really refreshing from many other professors.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 10:18 am, Dec 12, 2012 Report Evaluation		Overall, that class was okay. There is a LOT of work though. I had the most work in this class the entire quarter I was in it--even more than EE 211/241, CPE 133, and CPE 102. The iFixt group project SUCKS. I don't care what anyone tells you, it's a A LOT of work. The book for this class is completely outdated, despite it's 2012 copyright date. She assigns reading every day for the first part of the quarter, and her reading quizzes ask you to recite concepts from the book verbatim. The worst part is that she somehow made her way into a nightmare I had after finals week for Fall '12. In my dream she told me I had to stay until the sunday of finals week to do some speech or something--I remember yelling and punching a desk out of frustration. So yah, there's that. Essentially, this is a very work heavy class. She claims to understand that as engineers we have a lot of work so she doesn't assign much, but she does. The only good thing about her class is that she doesn't have a final during finals week.

ENGL 310 Senior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 11:58 pm, Jun 13, 2012 Report Evaluation		Amido is very straight forward. If you're thinking about taking this class for fun or an easy A look else where. Her grading system is kinda messed that if you want an A or B you need to write a couple more essays other wise you're pretty much guarantee a C. In order to do well you need to put a lot of work in and go to her office hours. But as long as you put in the effort you should get the result you want.

ENGL 310 Sophomore Grade Earned: A Required (Support) 2:05 am, Jun 1, 2012 Report Evaluation		I really liked English 310 this quarter, and the class is a great transition to the working world and what's expected of you there. If you're at all interested in becoming a better writer (everyone should be), you can't go wrong. Sherrie spent a long time in business doing the managing, hiring, and firing, so she knows her stuff. You'll notice she is a little rough around the edges, and she'll chastise you every once in a while for mistakes (whether they're in a paper or how you act), but she's actually a sweet lady and is truly trying to help you improve. Although there are a lot of assignments, I never felt they were overwhelming, and I actually enjoyed a number of them. Grading is strict (assignments are basically graded on how close to perfection they are, not how hard you tried), but a lot of your lowest grades are dropped. An A isn't easy, but the work is fantastic practice, and you'll learn a lot about getting a job and generally performing well in the workplace. On another note, class itself is pretty relaxed, and it's small, so you get to meet some other cool people who are probably in your major. Take 310 with Sherrie!

ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: B General Ed 11:38 pm, May 14, 2012 Report Evaluation		I hate this class! I have learned nothing but how to properly take better pictures. You will have to make a repair guide for a device and picture taking is one of the essentially elements. She is a ridiculously hard grader and is very vague about what she wants. Avoid this teacher if you can.

ENGL 310 Junior Grade Earned: N/A Elective 9:05 pm, Mar 18, 2012 Report Evaluation		Sherrie is great. She has a well-developed business sense, one that she passes on to her students. This class is a LOT of writing work, but I sincerely recommend it to any person looking to enter the business world, aka most Cal Poly students. She will help you bring your writing up to a professional level, and you will leave the class with a ton of confidence in your ability to thrive in a corporate environment. Any student looking to go into the business world, take this class. You'll be grateful you did. Just make sure your quarter isn't too loaded, this class requires a lot of time.



ENGL 149 Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Support) 12:28 pm, Jun 29, 2011 Report Evaluation		I honestly learned a lot in this class. That said, it was a VERY large amount of work. I put more time into this class than any other class I've taken at poly including statics and dynamics. I ended up with an A-. Sherrie is a nice individual and a very good teacher but she has very high expectations of time commitment. If you're going to take a class from her, just know you'll learn the material but you're going to have to put a lot of time into the class.

ENGL 310 Senior Grade Earned: N/A Required (Support) 10:26 am, May 16, 2011 Report Evaluation		This teacher basically assumes that you are going to FAIL your first three-four assignments. And you do. Trust me. Unless you are some business expert you are going to fail every single one on your first attempts. I recommend that you do NOT take this teacher unless you are REALLY serious about the business writing concept. I hate myself for taking this teacher, I'd rather wake up at 7AM for a different one. All in all, she knows what she's talking about, but if you don't give a shit about business writing don't take the class, it's just going to make your life hell. Trust me.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 4:50 am, May 13, 2011 Report Evaluation		If you want an easy class, avoid professor Amido. If you want to learn a lot and be prepared to write papers that could very well land you a job, take this professor. As others have said its a boatload of work, but in the end it pays off, I feel like I grew as a writer more in this class than any other English class I have taken. I also feel like it was the most applicable English class I've taken. Write now I'm working on a job application and I'm grateful I had Sherrie to whip me into shape. Boy was that a hard earned B- though.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 12:16 pm, Apr 8, 2011 Report Evaluation		this class was way too much work for a 100 level class. she has daily reading assignments the she verbally quizes you on during the next lecture so read and participate in class discussions. also 70 percent of your grade is left up for grabs during the last week of school. it worked for me because i bombed everything before and then a did pretty well on my two final projects but i know others did the opposite. don't expect to have any down time because there is always busy work that needs to be done. i would take another easier teacher even though i can say that i took a lot home from mrs amido.

ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 9:08 am, Apr 4, 2011 Report Evaluation		Sherrie Amido is a great professor. She requires students to read the book to learn the material out of class, and in class she mainly goes over resumes, interviews, and assignments. However, if she feels you do not understand the material well, she will ask that you come in to office hours to discuss assignments, and will reward you if you do by allowing you to redo some assignments for partial credit (I did this often and I came out with a B, so it helps). She's a great professor for this subject and I recommend taking her. As a freshman with no work experience, I feel much more confident when applying for jobs an interns this summer.

ENGL 149 Junior Grade Earned: B General Ed 1:21 am, Mar 28, 2011 Report Evaluation		She made the class very relevant to the workforce, which made it fun and interesting, but if your looking for a tech writing class without much work then this is not the class for you. We had a syllabus filled with assignments along with a time consuming group project that spanned the entire quarter.



ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: N/A Required (Support) 8:29 pm, Mar 17, 2011 Report Evaluation		Mrs. Amido is a knowledgeable instructor. She knows the English language very well and is great with students. There is a heavy workload, but if you don't procrastinate it won't be an issue. Easy A's are not given out. The satisfaction from receiving an A on assignments was more gratifying than any other English classes I've taken. I would highly recommend Professor Amido. She doesn't sugar coat anything; she does work son.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 4:51 pm, Dec 17, 2010 Report Evaluation		Before taking this class I was concerned that it would be too much work. I\'m not sure if she changed her curriculum up or what, but I did not experience the heavy workload mentioned in previous ratings. Our work consisted of an iFixit project that lasted the entire quarter. This was not too bad, it usually consisted of weekly group meetings. We also had memos and other assignments due every two weeks totaling to about eight assignments throughout the quarter. This teacher is great. She really knows her stuff and works hard to make sure we have a complete understanding of what she is teaching. She is really helpful if you go to her office hours. She grades hard, so you should leave time to carefully revise your work.

ENGL 310 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 3:46 pm, Mar 23, 2010 Report Evaluation		No joke, this was one of my favorite classes at Cal Poly. It is a lot of work. It is not an easy A class. Mrs. Amido provides many opportunities to work on your writing skills. With about one or two assignments due per week, there was no room for procrastination. In this class, you can fail some assignments and still do well in the class. Also, going to office hours is so helpful. She sits there with you and goes over your papers and tells you what you need to work on. Her comments are specific and will come in handy when you revise your work. If you want an A or B in the class, you have to do more work compared to those who only want a C. Overall, Mrs. Amido knows her stuff. In the beginning you go over basic grammar and it may seem lame but it helps when writing your papers. She is very nice and extremely helpful. Though some may find her ways of teaching to be tough, what you learn in her class is so beneficial. TAKE HER!

ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: A Required (Support) 5:59 pm, May 12, 2009 Report Evaluation		Sherrie is a great instructor. She is really knowledgeable and experienced in the subject, and really cares about this class. That isn't all that common for GEs... Regardless, DO NOT think this class will be a cake walk. It is nothing but. You are going to learn A LOT of material, and the pace is borderline breakneck. Make sure to keep up on your reading assignments, as those little surprise quizzes will really hurt after you miss enough. There is a pretty large time commitment for this class as well. Make sure to get started on your papers pretty early and leave yourself time to revise them. She doesn't grade easy at all, but she is really good about telling you what she is looking for. Don't underestimate the workload though! There's a lot of it :/

ENGL 310 Senior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 10:59 am, Apr 7, 2008 Report Evaluation		Sherrie is a really cool lady. She knows her shit and is really helpful when you need it. I missed a lot of class this quarter and she was very flexible with my schedule and helped me with all the material I missed. It's not as intensive as some people may tell you, there's a lot of writing assignments, but only the job research memo is longer than a page. I would definitely take her again.

ENGL 310 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 6:53 pm, Dec 10, 2007 Report Evaluation		Ms. Amido is a very passionate, real, hard-working teacher. She gives about 17 assignments total, but if you're only wanting a 'C' in the class you only have to do about 15. This was an intimidating and frustrating class at first. She told us the first day of school that we would fail some assignments because none of us had ever written before like we would in this class. Well, I think everyone failed on the first assignment and then I failed 4 more. BUT she has a great grading system; 17 assignments=160%. She then takes only the top 80% of the 160% and adds that to a 20% participation grade (which consists of quizzes, student initiated office hours, Q & A's in class, etc.) The reason we all fail some of the assignments is because she REALLY wants us to LEARN and in order to do that, we have to work at it. Also, she grades on effectiveness, not effort. This class teaches how to write business documents; if you don't know how to effectively communicate in the written form for your business, you could get fired. She gives us the hard knocks in class so we don't have to deal with them in the real world. Let's see, there's a lot of reading at the beginning of the class. Do read, it helps your understanding, and the pop quizzes are on the reading. Also, there is a huge research project that she'll assign at the beginning of the quarter. START ON IT RIGHT AWAY!! There's a lot to do, but if you can work on it at the beginning, it's not as overwhelming. You will learn a lot in this class. Stick with it, see Ms. Amido when you have questions/concerns and I think you, too, will find this to be an enjoyable and valuable class. :)



ENGL 128 Sophomore Grade Earned: A General Ed 11:19 am, Nov 14, 2007 Report Evaluation		She is awesome! Really great in office hours. I am not a straight A student, she is just a good teacher.

ENGL 149 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 5:50 pm, Apr 2, 2007 Report Evaluation		Eng 149 is a somewhat demanding course in terms of time. There are a decent amount of assignments, and 3 or so group projects. Be prepared to spend some time on this class. Sherrie is a good instructor, and very few classes were ever boring. Do the reading, it will help and you'll get a better grade at the end.

ENGL 149 Junior Grade Earned: N/A General Ed 3:00 pm, Mar 4, 2007 Report Evaluation		This is from an honest student. She does not assign much work. The class is not hard by any definition of the word. She DOES NOT have an ego. I find that really funny that someone posted that. What else...? Yeah the class is pretty easy going.

ENGL 310 Senior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 7:54 am, Feb 9, 2006 Report Evaluation		I recommend Professor Amido to anyone! Her attentivness to each student went beyond the call of duty. She made it a point to make sure every student understood how to write a successful paper. Take Amido, you will be glad you did!

ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 11:28 pm, Jan 29, 2006 Report Evaluation		Amido is a very nice lady with good intentions. Her tech writing class is a whole shitload of work and there are numerous projects along with a group project and an individual research project which is fucking a lot of work and increadibly unnecessary for a general ed class. Its more work than the 149 class for engineers. She grades hard and the projects add up quickly. The midterm is easy and class was easy to attend, but THE WORK IS NOT WORTH IT.



ENGL 310 Senior Grade Earned: C Required (Support) 1:44 pm, Dec 20, 2005 Report Evaluation		Professor Amido is an outstanding professor, she is very passionate about what she does and has the desire to help her students succeed. The course required many short papers and readings that are very beneficial. I would recommend this class to any student. It has been the best class I have taken in college.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: C General Ed 8:26 am, Dec 14, 2005 Report Evaluation		There is a lot to say about Sherrie. She knows a lot about tech writing and she assigns a SHITTTTTTTLLLLLOOOADDDDDDDDDDD of work. However, the work she assigns really teaches you how to be a good tech writer. Expect to do a handfull of memos, 2 really annoying projects and a midterm. Its also perty much impossible not to pass the class because she will let you re write failed assignments for a C!!! If your taking a lot of hard classes and your thinking about taking Amido, I would wait because her class will suck up a LOT of time.

ENGL 310 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 4:16 pm, Dec 13, 2005 Report Evaluation		This class requires a lot of time! If you have a hectic schedule, watch out for this one. There's usually two writing assignments due each week. You have to write a "job research memo" as one of the projects. She makes it sound like its a very time consuming project, but its not that bad. Also, don't get scared if you fail many of the assignments. She works it out so that you wont fail the class as long as you do all of the assignments. She also allows students to not do some assignments if you just want a C which is pretty sweet.

ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: A General Ed 10:43 am, Nov 5, 2005 Report Evaluation		I thought Amido was a very good teacher. She is nice to her students and knows the material. It was kind of a boring class because you write memos all the time and can't find the relevance in the material. However, she is a great teacher. The projects at the end were a little time-consuming, but you get to do them in a group so they're not as bad. I would recommend Amido for someone taking 148.

ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 8:51 pm, Oct 22, 2005 Report Evaluation		This class is really overwhelming at first, but it is worth it in the end since this is one of the most important classes in the GE program. You have tons of memos and other assignments at the beginning to prepare you for the two big projects that will really test your skills. She is very willing to help you, but only if you identify and thought out specific problems. Overall, this class you'll learn lots, but be ready to really work for your grade.

ENGL 149 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 8:24 pm, Aug 27, 2005 Report Evaluation		The lecture and most of the textbook for this class was completely useless. I think the whole four hours per week could have easily been condensed into one hour. I wish I had attended class less. There were two group projects from her class. Both were too much work. We also wrote lots of memoms. With that being said, I still did learn tons from her class. You will learn how to explain things to a non technical audience, write a memo, interview, and many other neccesary skills to succeed as an engineer. Format and appearance were emphasized more than content. You will spend lots of time doing work for this class, a lot of it not neccesary. Overall, take Amido if you want to learn a lot, are willing to work hard, and maybe not get a great grade.



ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: A General Ed 10:03 pm, Jul 8, 2005 Report Evaluation		This class covered the basics, memos and business letters. There were two larger projects. One was a group project instructions manual and the other was an individual research project. There was one midterm and a few short quizzes. None of the material was very difficult but it was rather time consuming. Expect to spend a lot of time writing, proof reading, and editing papers, especially the research paper. Pay attention to the details and the format given in the book and you will be fine. A dull subject, but Amido made it much more bearable.

I spent countless hours working on stupid group projects in the class and ended up with a B+. If what you turn in isn't exactly what she wants, expect a low grade. The problem is that what she wants is not necesarily correct. If you have nothing to do for a whole quarter take her.

ENGL 102 Freshman Grade Earned: Credit General Ed 4:27 pm, Dec 20, 2004 Report Evaluation		Good Professor. Very helpful when writing an essay to consult her because she would give u tips on how to start. I would go into her office every time we had a paper because if it wasn't toward her standards we would have to write the paper again. The class has three in class essays (only one needs to pass), and it has three out of class essays, which all need to have a passing grade. If u get a chance take Amido, she is a really good proffesor for english

ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 9:45 pm, Aug 26, 2004 Report Evaluation		This class is pretty demanding, but she does a great job making sure that you are writing quality technical papers. There is lots of work from the get go with memos and other career-essential writing skills. She is dry at lecturing, but that is all right because you learn most of the stuff by doing the assignments. She gives you lots of assignments to do, but for a good reason as this class is very important for life in the adult world. She is very helpful in office and understanding. Overall, she is a good professor that will really help you learn, but be ready to work your butt off for the entire quarter. Recommended for being able to learn lots from.



ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 11:49 am, Jun 16, 2004 Report Evaluation		Great teacher, really cares about her students. She is willing to help at any time you have a question. The only problem is that it's VERY hard to get an "A" in her class. Otherwise, I think I got a lot out of this class. This course will definetely help you in the future.

ENGL 145 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 1:23 am, May 20, 2004 Report Evaluation		Not really sure why Prof. Amido is getting such a bad rap.....her argumentative writing class was one of the most interesting classes I have taken thus far. We basically debated current affairs the whole period, the class flew by. Take Amido. She provided plenty of instruction for argumentative writing, and she really knows how to lead an awesome discussion.

ENGL 148 Sophomore Grade Earned: A Required (Support) 9:48 pm, Feb 25, 2004 Report Evaluation		This is definitely a BUSY WORK class. There aren't any midterms, just oral quizzes for participation points (they're off the reading--very easy). Two big projects, one group, one solo. If you're not very good at spelling, punctuation, and/or grammar, take her. She doesn't mark off for it unless it's HORRIBLE.

ENGL 149 Freshman Grade Earned: C Required (Support) 7:50 pm, Feb 25, 2004 Report Evaluation		Sherrie Amido's class was very informative, and later on in life, the stuff will come in quite useful. However, since I took this class as a freshmen, I really didn't see the point in doing the tons of stuff she had us do. The workload was ridiculous. Way too much for the 4 unit class.

ENGL 149 Junior Grade Earned: C Required (Support) 1:41 pm, Jan 13, 2004 Report Evaluation		Mrs. Amido is a very nice teacher who's pretty down to earth. She doesn't just hand out A's though. Enjoy the wonderful world of group work. Pay attention to the course outline so you know when assignments are due becuase she usually doesn't remind you. Despite my aggrivations with the class, I would probably take her again.

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: C General Ed 5:22 pm, Apr 3, 2003 Report Evaluation		Professor Amido is one of the nicest teachers. I received a C in her class, but she really cared about my grade. She made me schedule conferences to help my grade in her class. We read one book, and we had class debates which were really cool. I'm glad that she doesn't require in this class a thick pointless text book, she just requires an interesting novel. We also had three essays and three in-class essays two in-class essays required third is a make up for a bad one. Well all I have to say is that she is the coolest teacher, very nice and becuase of her I learned a lot and I am writing better then before.

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: B General Ed 6:08 pm, Mar 25, 2003 Report Evaluation		I am wondering if Amido was under the impression throughout the quarter of 134 i took w/ her, that she was teaching a 145 course. All we did in class was have group arguments about current, controversial topics, and read some stupid ass book that was boring and pointless. In the end we wrote an essay over one particular controversial topic. She is very hard grader, and although i suck at english, i felt that the grade i received in this class did not represent how hard i tried in her lame class rewriting several times every essay i turned in

ENGL 134 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 3:31 pm, Feb 25, 2003 Report Evaluation		Sherri, Is a nice lady, she doesn't realize the average student has other classes and her work load is TO MUCH! She has a lot of reading, 2 in class papers, 3 out of class papers, weekly quizes and a book you have to read! Her excuse is other professors from different departments are upset because students are passing english and can't write. This is questionable! Unless you have NO life don't take Amido.

ENGL 102 Freshman Grade Earned: Credit General Ed 7:09 pm, Feb 4, 2003 Report Evaluation		Don't take this teacher! I cannot stress it enought, she grades perfect papers really hard. You have three in class and three out of class essays. She doesn't know how to teach english in a positive way. Her lectures are boring as ever and doesn't make any sense. She also gives you very stupid essay topics to do that don't make sense.

ENGL 149 Junior Grade Earned: N/A Required (Support) 10:50 am, Dec 9, 2002 Report Evaluation		I can't speak for students in other classes, but if you take Ms. Amido for Technical Writing, GET READY TO WORK, and don't expect anything to come easy. I consider myself a decent writer, probably better than most engineers, but I may end up with a C in this class. Why? Because Amido is very, very demanding, and is also a very stingy grader. She runs the class like a business, and she is the CEO (oh yeah...she has issues with power too, but I won't get into that). You have to give her memos all the time, and that's only the beginning. Today I handed in a twenty-five page group report, I completed two 8-10 page papers earlier in the quarter, I completed numerous smaller assignments, and I read most of the chapters in the Technical Communication textbook. This is all required. I worked my ass off, and I might get a C in friggin' tech writing. My advice to anyone thinking of taking Amido is this: if you truly care about writing, she is a great option. Because you do so much work, you also really do learn a lot. But, if you're like most engineers and just want to escape the class without shattering your already-shaky GPA, take someone else.

ENGL 134 Junior Grade Earned: B General Ed 11:41 pm, Nov 3, 2002 Report Evaluation		Amido is a good lady, and she is very compassionate about her teaching. I guess she knows perfect english, and I guess I just don't. However, she can tell if your trying, and she is open for suggestions. Alot of discussion, if your into that sort of thing. You gotta take the class, so do it with Amido. I got a D fresh year, then took Amido. Shutup.



ENGL 148 Freshman Grade Earned: B General Ed 10:41 am, Jun 13, 2002 Report Evaluation		Sherrie was a very good professor who could easily connect with students of several different technical areas. This class starts out very rigorously and then slows down towards the end mainly because there is so much to learn in preparation for the individual and group projects. She expects you to be on time like a business or else your grade suffers. Your grade is based on participation, an intro memo, a resume, a tech translation assignment, an individual project, a grammar test, a proposal, a group final project report and presentation of it. She may be intimidating by saying things like "What do you think" when you ask a question, but really it reinforce what you already know but couldn't think about. Nevertheless, she is really hepful at office hours when you need help on your papers or if you are stumped on the assignments. Lectures were all right and helpful depending on how you think about tech writing. But mostly this class is about how efficient you work. Overall, a good teacher with a great feel for different levels of technicality and work fields. After all, this is supposed to be a freshman class for who knows how many majors, but most of my class were seniors ready to graduate.
