CRP 203 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 11:08 pm, May 24, 2012 Report Evaluation |
Despite Vicente's humble nature, he is an extremely experienced professor. I studied abroad with him, and can honestly tell you that he is one of the best guys you'll ever meet. Great character, approachable, super funny, and intelligent. His 203 lab isn't as technologically advanced as Umut's, but he is definitely a more realistic figure that you will encounter in the workforce. Be ready for all-nighters toward the end of the quarter to get your design submittal in on time, and also be ready to 'learn by doing.' He isn't the kind of guy that makes sure you turn in your work on a scheduled basis, but you'll learn a lot in this class. Thanks Vicente, you continue to be a figure that I really trust and respect in the CRP department. Keep refining your SketchUp, and drafting skills and make sure you make it clear that you are devoted to the class.

Vicente is great! He really cares about each of his students and wants to help you to do your best and learn the most. Asking questions really is helpful to get the best result for your designs and don't leave class early!

After having Vicente for two quarters, I couldn't have had a better CRP professor. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable in this field, but he also teaches you about things from his past experiences in Brazil which is very interesting and you wouldn't be able to learn that from other teachers. He truly represents Cal Poly's "Learn by doing" in his studio classes, and always goes the extra mile for his students. But the best thing about him is his hilarious sense of humor that makes it easy to be in studio for so long. I would recommend Vicente to anyone, he’s genuinely a great guy and good teacher.

I really liked Vicente. He was a nice guy who taught the 201 studio really well! He was pretty helpful when it came to learning new drawing techniques, and he offered constructive criticism to help you become a better artist. I improved quite a bit this quarter because of this class and am glad that I took Vicente.

Vicente is a cool guy as long as you spit polish his shiny head. He loves a lemony fresh rub a dub dub.

Vicente is a great teacher and guy. Whatever I struggled with in class he was there to help me. I learned loads and feel stronger in my design skills after completing the course with him. I look forward to classes with Vicente in the future.

People complain way too much about this guy. He\'s actually a really nice guy and is very helpful. He\'s always there for you, you just need to make the effort to ask. He is very clear about what he wants and you should have no problem making his deadlines. However if you\'re struggling, he\'ll make adjustments. He\'s also really cool with you missing a day or two, as long as you keep him updated as to why you won\'t be there. He\'s super laid back, you just need to give the guy a chance. He\'s a great professor.

Vicente has a real ego problem... His big head hinders him from doing his job correctly and relating to the students. Take Umut Toker over Vicente any day cuz Umut is the best and really cares about how his students do... unlike the afore mentioned professor.

Have no misconceptions about this class--it is a lot of work. Vicente is a decent teacher, he is occassionally funny, but has difficulty realizing that students have a lot of work in their other classes in addition to his class. I didn't procrastinate too much during this class, but still had a decent amount of work to finish at the end of the quarter. So...be prepared for the workload. The workload is made up of a portfolio (due at the end of the quarter), which includes weekly sketches, three case studies, and multiple drawings for a design that you come up with for a designated site. It doesn't sound too difficult, but it's hard if you haven't had any previous instruction on graphic skills. One cool thing in the class is that we got to use some fun computer programs, Sketchup and Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Good luck.

This year, Vicente and Umut taught both the 201 sections together. Vicente can be hard to understand at times. He'll tell you one thing and then the next day he'll tell you another. His presentations are pretty much worthless and steal much of your precious lab time. With that said, he has a good sense of humor, is very approachable, likable, very nice, and accomodates you. He puts the pressure on only where he needs to and doesnt push too hard. He's a nice guy - I'm sure you'll like him - but if you need a straight answer for something, go to Umut before Vicente.

He is a nice guy, just not a good teacher...at all. He is always in his office, so you would think that he is working hard and updating his class work. That just isn't the case. He reuses assignment semester to semester and makes you work in groups so he doesn't have as much work to grade. After seeing him around the department and realizing what a nice person he is, I was HIGHLY disappointed in his lack of teaching skills. He is confusing, unorganized, and plays favorites.

Dr. del Rio can be difficult to understand at times, but he also cares about his students and wants them to succeed- he will provide as much guidance and advice as you need, an important attribute in a design course.

Vicente is a great guy. He really knows his stuff and is obviously a major intellectual force within the CRP department. However, I have taken two classes with him and both were extremely hard to follow. His extensive expertise of planning will not help with his rambling, confusing instructions for assignments that you must try to decipher. Most of us never new what was going on and were often baffled when he would criticize our projects with criteria that was never verbalized. Basically, he tells you what to do in the assignment, but doesn't tell you any specifics or what he actually really wants. And asking the other professor in this team-taught class, Zeljka Howard, was no help either, because the two of them always gave totally different answers to each question you ask them. Overall, Vicente is so knowledgeable, it's just a shame that this knowledge is lost in the class's dysfunctional organization and execution .

Vicente is a good professor. Although he isn't the most clear instructor, he outdoes Morrow in pretty much everything. The two decided to team-teach lectures this quarter, which helped students stuck in Morrow's class. The work load was pretty heavy at times, and the introductory assignments (drawing lines, etc.) were ridiculous in the sheer amount of time required to finish. Not surprisingly, the lectures dragged on endlessly thanks to Morrow doing them. The one thing that made this class harder to follow than it needed to be was the fact that lectures were given too far in advance of the actual project. If you haven't figured it out by now, Vicente's class will fill up long before Morrow's class does.

Vicente is so far the best teacher Ive had here at Poly. He gets you interested in the assignment, though his slideshows tend to go on forever. Vicente is the man.

for 201 and 202 if the choice was between vicente and morrow, vicente would win by a landslide... in fact he did... his class was full before anyone signed up for morrow's. he's got to be one of the best professors on campus. in addition to his years of experience, he's got a great sense of humor and is willing to work with students one-on-one. what we do in class exemplifies the "learn-by-doing" principle. im gonna try to sum this up by saying that you'll learn a lot from taking vicente's class... its well worth the time and effort... (plus you'll be avoiding morrow)
