HIST 315 Junior Grade Earned: C General Ed 11:11 pm, Sep 27, 2003 Report Evaluation |
I'm willing to give Tseng the benefit of the doubt, simply because I had her during her first quarter at Cal Poly. She appears terrified to speak in front of the class, and continually makes bad jokes to try to cover. This made her lectures almost painful to listen to. However, the readings are not bad and the class itself is not difficult. I hope she improves with time because I'm sure she's bright enough to one day be a better teacher.

I'll admit, my first impression of her on the first day was a very bleak one. She started out with a joke that got a few pity laughs and it seemed like I was in for another shitty class. THe lectures were in so many words, fucking boring.(I think she has potential to improve on that) But I think this was her rookie year and that had a lot to do with her teaching ability. If she learns some of the tricks of the trade she might be able to enthrall her students. There were 10 quizes (she drops one) after every pair of discussions, which you have to do with at least two other people. THere is one midterm which tests you on how well you read the readings. THen theres the final which has stuff on the movies and more readings. The discussions were pretty painful to bear though. It consisted usually of the three people standing in front of the class talking while no one else contributes. Everyone has to do it so I guess you just have to endure it. Towards the end of the quarter people just ditched early if there was no quiz. Overall I thought the class was okay. She got me interested in an immersive book called Under A Cruel Star which for me, help save the class. I definitely consider her inexperience in my evaluation. Any rookie will make mistakes and accordingly she had a few. I'm sure her passion for the subject will make her exert the effort to get better, but I guess only time will tell. She was there to answer any questions, unlike some professors. I don't highly recommend her but if you she's the only option left she definitely a viable secondary option. Peace-

Yeah, she really is as bad as everyone says. Her lectures are dry, especially before the midterm when the material itself is boring. She giggles all the time and she's really quiet. Discussion days are a total waste of time, the group giving the presentation are the only ones who talk. The cool thing is that her tests and quizzes are beyond easy. If you read the questions carefully, use common sense, and keep half an ear open sometimes during lecture, you'll do okay.

HIST 215 Freshman Grade Earned: B Elective 10:09 pm, Apr 10, 2002 Report Evaluation |
okay, so no real need to elaborate here, the other eveluators did a pretty good job. my biggest complaint about this class is that i love history, but not only chinese history. i mean jesus christ, she spent the whole quarter talking about china and communism. the other history 215 teachers may be better instructors and if you really want to enjoy the class take them, but if you want an easy B, take tseng. (although when she laughs in class you may want to shoot her in the head.) here's the thing though, i got a B+ and didn't try hard AT ALL. i didn't study, i didn't buy the textbook, and i asked other people about quiz material literally 30 seconds before the quizzes and did fine. the midterm was VERY hard and i must have failed the final, but what the hell - a B+? okay, whatever, i don't ask questions.

Anyone who took this class Winter 2002 talk to the Dean of the History Department. We are in the process of challenging this class. The more people who complain the better. Do not let this teacher do this another quater!

This teacher was the worst. I don't really enjoy history to begin with and taking Tseng did not help. She did not lecture the material clearly due to her giggling throughout the entire class and also because she has quite a thick accent. If you have no choice but to take this class I have 2 helpful hints: 1) She periodically has pop quizzes and they usually end up being every 2 weeks, the day after you were supposed to read something for "discussion" days. 2) For the tests, if you read what she wants to you'll do pretty well. There are questions from the lecture, but you can also learn the same information just by reading the book.

This was by far the worst teacher I've ever had. After this quarter I am going to talk to the department head and find out why she is still employed here...this class was terrible. Her tests were very hard, and she does not grade on a curve. I studied very hard and read all the material for the midterm, and the questions she asked on the test were completely random and unessessarily specfic. The class should be called Chinese History, because thats all she talks about. She types up the entire lecture and reads aloud to us. The midterm and final make up about 80% of your grade, so there is no room for screwing up. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!! I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!

This is the worst class that I have ever taken!!! She reads out of the book and it is so boring. Her midterm for some reason was very hard. There was one B two C's and the rest d's and F's. She refused to curve and told us that we can't expect to read the material once and expect to pass the class. She is Chinease and all that we talked about in class was China. It was supposed to be World History and we spent 90% on China and 10% on the rest of the world. You have so give a presentation. On some of the days that you have to do these presentations she give 2 point quizes which everyone gets up and leaves after they are over. I have never recieved a B before and she gave me a B-. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She was unwilling to even talk about my grade after the course was over.

This is absolutely the worst professor I've ever had in my whole entire educational experience. She stands up there and reads straight from her lecture notes. Word by word!!! This class is absolutely boring and she doesn't seem to be experience with the subject. You might as well not show up and read the book yourself.
