Initially you may not like him, but you will find he is a good guy who really cares about his students. He devoted a ton of time to help us with our group projects and all the statistics that are involved. He also helped a lot prior to test time. There are two midterms, a big group project with a client, and class exercises. There is statistics involved in the second half of the course, and a big part of the 2nd midterm. He tries very hard to make the statisitcs stuff make sense, but usually fails, however his exercises are very helpfull and he makes sure you know those. These exercises are very similar to what he has on the tests. The multiple choice parts of the tests are hard, but he gives you 15-20 sample questions which some then appear on the test. Our group project did not turn out that well, and I still did good in the class. Overall a good teacher, who tries very hard to help students and understands our needs.

The class itself was really boring. Try to sit in the back if you want to play on the computers. However, when it came down to the last project he was really helpful and was always in the lab willing to help the students. For studying for the tests, study the on-line tests from the book, and his power-point slides.

Vargo is not an educator. He talks during lecture, but doesn't communicate or put much effort into the material. He has verbally expressed that he thought his lectures were boring; I second that thought. Tests are fair. Definitly don't buy the project manual, and share a book with a friend cuz it's expensive. He's very willing to help outside of class especially with the statistics program, so utilize his help, but if there are other professors teaching, take another professor. Oh, and make sure you pick a good group in the beginning of class because you work with them all quarter.

Prof Vargo can get defensive when peppered with questions and seemed to be merely reciting Powerpoint slides during his lectures. Low enthusiasm for interaction with students. Will assign homeworks with 15 minutes left in class then disappear. I do believe he knows the topic of marketing research, he just doesn't convey it clearly or in a friendly professor-to-student fashion. His tests are not terribly difficult and neither are the homeworks. You just have to put up with his poor attitude and defensive nature.

if he likes you'll do well. but if he doesn't like you watch out.. he'll randomly mark you down points because he feels like it. PLUS, he'll make comments on your paper that you can't read, but then when you talk to him, he has this arrogant attitude. Just stay on his good side and go into his office hours for clarification on assignments because he's not very good at that in class.

Yes, he's a nice guy. He cannot lecture. Most people are sitting in this room playing on the Internet. I hope it gets better as the quarter progresses. He tries really hard, but he's just not interesting. Not a day goes by where someone isn't asleep. It's not a very interesting subject, so that doesn't help (this is Marketing Research). And the book is damn expensive! Oh well...

The lectures in this class are pretty boring. Most of the class plays solitaire. There is almost no homework and the midterms are pretty easy. There is a big research paper that requires a lot of group work. Vargo is a nice guy. Material is uninteresting.
