Yes, he can talk forever, but he\'s a good lab teacher. At least with all the explanations he gives, the labs are easy to understand and finish. He gives a lot of hints on how to do the post-labs, and if you don\'t get it he\'s more than willing to help in office hours.

He talks for sooo long! Chem 129 should have been the best lab in the series, but it was horrible because of him. He talked forever about things that we don't even need to know! yeah he explained everything, but its like.. come on, we can figure it out ourselves. He would also write all the notes on the board before class and then stand in front of him while he explained them, which was just stupid. He was a very clear teacher, but he talked slowly and for way too long. Its a lab class, not a freaking lecture. DO NOT TAKE TICE.

Man Tice can talk forever. Prelab lectures were real lectures. I mean, it really didnt seem that needed. Cmon, read the experiment for 5 min before the class, and your set. But his fourty minute prelabs were just redicilous. On top of that, a 25 minute quiz before the lecture left very little time for some of the longer experiments. Tice was great though, the lectures, while long, did help me understand the lab and how it fit into Immoos' lecture material. He was a harsh grader in my mind tho. But I wood take him again. Basicially, my only gripes are his grades, and sitting on freggin lab stools for the 1st hour of class.

I had a hard time in this class simply because it was basically the chem you learned in high school...and I didn't do well in high school. However, his lectures are very boring and it's very hard to pay attention in class.

I actually enjoyed Tice's class. While it is true that he is somewhat boring and drones on, he presents the material in a very clear and understandable way. If you have a problem with falling asleep in classes, sit in the front. The tests are reasonable and he drops the lowest "hour exam." I actually skipped the third midterm because I had done well on the first two. Tice is a nice guy, and even though he never makes eye contact, he genuinely cares about his students doing well in the class and understanding the material. You should expect to spend time in the book taking notes and doing practice problems. If you do this, you should get a good grade in the class.

Tice is a nice guy. He knows what he's talking about. His exams are hard and just reading over his lecture notes could bring nothing more than D. So you really need to spend more time with the book than the notes. Looking at the other chem professors, he's one of the decent ones and i recommend him.

This class is boring. That about sums up the whole class. Lecture for about an hour and a half two days a week and three midterms. You get to drop one, and youll need it since the average on the test are so low. Final was intersting. i thought i did great but it didnt turn out that way. This was the class i studied for the most an ended up getting the lowest grade from my classes. He makes up for the low test scores with a broad C bracket but that punishes those who are on the border between a C and B since a B start at the traditional 80. He should just curve the test. I dont know if the teacher is boring or its just the subject matter but be prepare for some chem facts from a monotone teacher.

I took the three part chem series, 127, 128, 129, and this guy was by far the most boring of all three. Do not take this professor if you have a hard time staying awake in class. He just starts taking and his hadwriting is so bad that he doesn't even know what it says sometimes. Lab was even worse because he felt the need to tell you EVERTHING. Like the lab manual doesn't already have step by step instructions. He is willing to help you out in office hours but if you have the chance to take another professor, do it.

Very boring, goes on tangents not related to the subject. Lectures are very hard to follow, assigns a lot of problems to do and doesn't really tell you what to study for the tests. He usually takes test questions directly from the homework assignments so if you know how to do the problems in the homework you should be fine. His tests are hard for people that struggle with chemistry. Study a lot. Take an SI class if it's offered.

I gotta give him some credit because I got a B in the class, but I was out for almost all his lectures. Not just me but about 2/3 of the class was. The garbage cans were full of empty coffee cups and soda bottles by the end of class. Nice guy and the tries to be funny, but wow, he wanders so off topic and he has a monotone voice. There are demos but they are so miniscule that I can't see from my seat (he assigned seating). To make it worse he shows us the shadow over the overhead projector (I think he did an experiment 3 times of a liquid dissolving a solid). Him and lab: bad. He lectures over the lab for about 1 1/2 hr so there is barely any time for the actual experimentation. He's nice and I..I think I learned something from his class, but I don't know. Good thing the whole course is about solving problems and no concepts, at least that's what I think the course was about.

I had Tice for lab, and I thought he was decent. The biggest downside is that he talks forever about what to do, so it can be difficult to remember everything. However, he genuinely wants to help his students, and is always prepared to clear things up.

Why go to class when you can't stay awake while in it? I used to like chemistry, but it will take a very good and enthusiastic teacher to make me like it again. The constant monotonous droning on about things that don't interest anyone is painful. Search for teachers that wont make you hate chem if you can

Prof. Tice is a very nice and helpful man. I had him for lab and lecture and he was great. The tests were very fair and easy to do well on by studying the problem sets that he gives for each chapter. In lab, he went over every experiment thoroughly, which some people could have done without, but I greatly appreciated his clarity. Chemistry is chemistry, and Tice did a great job conveying the material to me. Take him if you can.

Well, it's hard to stay awake in his class, and a lot of the time, the clock seems to be moving backwards. He has a very droning voice, and I guess for his personality, he is very enthusiastic about chemistry. He is VERY nit-picky about certain things, so it requires a lot of attention to detail. He welcomes students into his office hours, but I found that I came out not understanding anything because he went off on tangents and didn't explain the material clearly. I took the class in 5 weeks over the summer, which I don't recommend if you're not chemistry inclined. The tests and the final were kind-of hard. All in all, he's a nice old man. On the morning of finals (it was at 7 a.m.), he brought us donuts, set up a coffe machine, and made tea for us - it was really sweet.

Dr. "Precise" Tice can drone on sometimes, but he does make a good effort to teach the material and he does know it very well. I had almost no background in Chemistry, so I had to work very hard to get a B. Make sure all your numbers are perfect on tests and other work, otherwise he takes off points. The tests are hard, especially the multiple-choice section, but he does let you drop your lowest test score, out of three "hour exams", but not the final. If you know your math and Chemistry, it shouldn't be a problem. I took the course during a five-week summer session, which was extremely fast moving, which is okay if its just review, but it would be better to take it during a full quarter if Chemistry is not your thing.

Nice guy, but doesn't communicate very well with students in answering questions. Has three tests plus a final, and lets you drop your lowest test score (not the final though). Talks a little too much about the "theory" of chemistry and doesn't do enough examples in class. Assigns but doesn't collect homework. Gives extra credit in Chem 129.

Dr. Tice tries really hard to put his class to sleep but does a fairly good job of presenting the material clearly. He tends to be late to class and drone on about insignificant subjects for long periods. His 1 1/2 hour lecture at the beginning of labs could easily be cut down to 15 minutes. The good thing is, if you do well in chem, you can read the book and check the course web site and barely show up to class. He's also very helpful about making up assignments.
