Joanne has a passion for drawing and painting and for teaching. This causes students to be pushed hard, learn much and get their money's worth from her classes. She expects a lot but you will be a better artist and person by working with her.

ART 301 Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 4:57 pm, May 17, 2002 Report Evaluation |
Joanne's classes are tough, and she goes out of her way to be a tough grader. If you are looking for an easy A, don't take the class! The classes are fun and Joanne will help you become a better painter. I liked it best when she would demonstrate directly on my canvas: she is a master at using color and expression. I hated the way she ran the critiques. She made us very aware of our language, making us use "art language," and it felt like kindergarden sometimes. The lab often had a real community feel, and the nights before a project was due felt like an art commune.

ART 301 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 8:42 pm, Aug 1, 2001 Report Evaluation |
Ruggles has been one of the only profesors I have had that have presented a real challenge to me. Its a hard class and at times her deminure is not pleasant and she has trouble relating to the students, but I learned so much. With the pressure to do well,I had to work hard and spend a great deal of time on the projects. The end result was well worth all of the stress and long critiques.
