Michael is one of my favorite teacher, ever. He is informative, supportive, and funny. He is willing to help you above and beyond if your passion and talent for art is apparent. I can't think of one single class of his that I did not enjoy. Yes, He can be wordy and go off one a tangent, but this is also a part of discorse and discussion. These are college level art classes, learn to think abstractly and be comfortable with non text related discorse. Do me a favor, If you don't give a shit about art then don't take art classes. | |

Miller is one of those teachers that is truly passionate about what he teaches. His personality is a little wacky, but that is what makes him memorable. His lectures are informative but the wording on his tests can be tricky, so it's a good idea to read the book and write down as many notes as possible. I had him for drawing, and even though I am an art major, I found him to be very helpful whenever I was stuck or unsure about what to do. His teachings have stuck with me, which for me is a sign that he was a great teacher. His music choice for the class is....odd...but nonetheless Miller is great! | |

Michael absolutely is stuck in his own head. 99% of class time is spent talking about completely unrelated subjects, rants, tangents, and ultimately blaming the younger generations, the media and the government for everything thats wrong in his life/the world. Asking for help is like stepping into a maze. Almost nothing he says relates to your project, and none of it is helpful. His lectures are mind-numbingly boring. The book he requires talks in circles (much like he does), and is impossible to understand unless you have time to read the 40 page chapters multiple times. The in class assignments are completely unrelated to anything. He asked us why we weren't doing well on quizzes, our response was we needed more explanation of the chapters, so He literally ranted for an hour about how our class has no motivation. | |

Overall a good teacher. Quirky, awkward, and chill. Demos are really helpful, though his lectures are incredibly boring. He will definitely help you if you're having trouble in the class. Finals are easy, as long as you review the lecture slides he posts online. Reccomend! | |

Miller is a great teacher. He may get into rambling states during a lecture and some people find it boring, but I am really into art and I just soak up everything he has to say. He knows so much about the art world, heck just about the world in general. I really like listening to his experiences in life. I learned alot about my art in his class. I somewhat discovered what kind of artist i wanted to be and how to express myself. He is very nice (for lack of a better word). Many of the other art teachers i have right now are very critical and harsh towards students works. And when I leave his class i don't feel worthless, compared to the other art classes. For art & design, you have to take this class. I suggest doing it with Miller. You will actually reap the benefits of a Cal Poly education from his class. | |

Amazing teacher. His demos guide you through assignments that are at first pretty intimidating. Super helpful, too, as he walks around the class and helps each student. He definitely knows what he's doing. He looks for the creative student and never assigns strict guidelines as he wants each student do to their own thing and grow. As an art major, have him as a teacher helped so much and I saw my work improve immensely. Funny guy, great class, loved every second of it. | |

Michael Miller is quirky, weird, intimidating, and fun all rolled in one package. But when it all really comes down to it, he knows the art world and has a tremendous knowledge of different artists, history and techniques. He is a walking encyclopedia. In the end, Miller is a really nice and funny teacher. There's nothing more hilarious than seeing his jack nicolson impression, barking like a dog during critique, pretending to be constipated clown, or talking about french fries. French Fries. | |

Michael Miller caters to gay males and loud overbearing bumptious senior females. In other words, if you take any of his classes and expect to be able to have any level of open minded dialogue with him-- followed with any caliber of teacher-to-student consideration, then you've got to exploit your ego as much as possible, dominate the discussions with bullshit unrelated to class topics, and invite him to your trendy dinner parties. He has no sense of triage with the class's priorities or objectives and he spends too much time talking about himself and his past. I personally love being shown any of my art professors' past work and projects, but I don't want to spend and hour and a half listening to him go on about narcissistic details like after-parties and the "la scene." Miller does not conduct himself in a business manner. My class meetings were on a Mon and Wed and somehow it took him till Sat or Sun to send out the three pages of vocab terms that needed to be defined and turned in on Monday with a presentation. His VAGUENESS and FAVORITISM really ruin the effectiveness of the class. Take Miller only if you want to feel lost and confused. | |

Michael is a great guy. I was a guy who couldn't draw very well coming into the course. By the end I got alot better. The big thing in his class is to put your effort into what you are doing. If you ask him for help and respect him you do well in the clss. The test are very easy if you study the works beforehand for an hour or so. | |

Far and away one of the best classes I've ever taken. Looking back, I grew so much as an artist in the process of the class. Michael helped each of us really push ourselves. Intermedia is a challenge for many people because it involves a lot of risk. I feel like we were able to take those risks and really do amazing things because Michael provided a supportive environment for us to do it in. that said, Cal Poly needs to lighten up and stop the ridiculous regulations about installations on campus. It became a huge problem and it inhibited the things we were able to do. | |

Michael is crazzzzy. I love this man. This was my favorite class for sure. It was like learning art all over again. I really enjoyed all the assignments and the lectures weren't that boring either. If you can't draw it will be a little tougher for you, but if your pretty good at art then your good. | |

Mike Miller is a terrible teacher. He is a perfect example of what is wrong in this world. Unless you are popular, good looking, or very well talented, he will completely ignore you. So much for equal treatment. I would say avoid him but it isn't like you have a choice around it. My advice is to suck up as much as possible and do gay shit like bake cookies for him. No joke, the same ridiculous butt kissing you would do to your third grade teacher is fair game here. He's just that superficial and self-involved. if you hate drawing with a passion, this may not be the class for you because it's not like high school where you draw a bunch of little drawings. but you actually work on large drawings, sometimes you spend 3-4 days on one drawing that will be a big part of your grade. If you feel like you're not doing well, come in and get his advice and really try to listen to what he's telling you. He may seem kind of weird, kind of arrogant, but he's pretty funny. just get on his good side, and you should be okay. And his lecture midterms are cake. just study. | |

Miller thinks he's hilarious. He has various impressions he does (err only 2 really) of characters he made up (a French guy and some Igor like creation). For a fundamentals of drawing class, grading was way too heavily based on talent. -Miller knows his stuff. -It's overshadowed quickly by his insistence on catering to certain types of people - homosexuals, pretty girls, and others who think just as highly of themselves as he does. -If you're good at BSing, good looking, or willing to sit in his office after hours and suck his dick then you'll do well. -It's unfortunate that someone with his credentials and expertise resorts to petty methods and we all miss out on what he could offer and are stuck with his bad humor and name dropping instead. | |

Just remember to do well on your portfolios and you'll at least get a C (some drawings count as double credits). His lectures are informative and his tests are straight foreward from the outline he gives. I recommend Miller for art 101, cool guy. | |

michael is a good professor. (you can draw that conclusion from other comments) I'm not the most technically skilled person when it comes to drawing, so it was definately a challenge. actually it worked to my benefit because he walked around helping us with our sketches and what-not and he is a VERY wise man. he has a lot of stories and the more you screw up on your drawings, the more he need to help you and then you get to hear more stories. they are really interesting. oh, and be sure to PUT YOUR NAME ON ALL YOUR WORK! he was pretty forgiving about it, but i doubt he'll be merciful again. | |

Mr. Miller is patient with your mistakes if you are polite to him. Civility is his biggest issue, so don't be an ass, and he will cut you some slack when he grades your portfolio. Get as much feedback as you can with him during office hours and class time because he'll give recognition students who seem interested. He gets moody, but who knows an art person who isn't? | |

I really enjoyed Prof. Miller's class. I thought I was pretty good at drawing before I took his class, but wow did he show me so many things that needed improvement. He really teaches you to draw what you SEE not what you THINK you see. As far as the class goes, it is expensive and time consuming, but what art class isn't. Make sure to stay up with the projects. I didn't finish some of my early pieces and it was hard to come back to them later and finish. Overall, I really liked Prof. Miller and his class; I learned so much from him. I would recomend this class to anyone. | |

This guy has the ability to be very rude when he wants to. If you are not good at drawing before entering the class you might get left behind. He is extremely strict about his rules so if you dont have a problem sitting in class for hours on end you will do fine. He is probably a really cool friend but not a cool teacher. he takes what he does very seriously. If he is rude to you call him out on it! | |

Professor Miller was really cool. I left my class notebook/journal (containing notes taken in lecture, and essay responses to select works, 10% of final grade) in the room one day, and only realized it a week later. Professor Miller helped me search for it for like half an hour, until we finally found it, which was really cool. What was even cooler was that, since I had gotten 20/20 on the essay exam (there are 3, based on the lectures, worth 15% of final grade), he said that if we couldn't find it, he wouldn't make me rewrite all the notes, only the essay responses, which I hadn't written yet anyway. | |

Prof Miller has a great sense of humor. He is very good at what he does and he is very passionate about it as well. He tries to make the activity fun but the lecture is absolutly a dread~because the materials are really dry. But the tests are fairly simple and easy. Just read the book and review the slides to study for the tests. Prof Miller also like to communicate with his students and talks about his daughter (she's the cutest thing in the world according to him), sometimes with his fake french accents. The class was great, I recommend prof Miller to everyone! | |

He has got to be one of the most moody professors ever! One day he will be super nice and understanding, and the next day he will be yelling at you for not holding your pencil the right way. If you lack drawing skills, don't think drawing with him because he just makes you feel crappy instead of helping you. He won't sit there and help you draw, he'll take your paper and draw it for you. It was a very long class too. The only fun part was the portraits. | |

Time to grow up kids and form your own opinions, your in college now. If you make your decisions based on other peoples experiences you will miss soooooooo much in life. Maturity and wisdom are earned through your own hard work and decision making. I've had some damn bad instructors and hated it at the time but in the end the experience is priceless. you can learn much from the worst instructor out there. Michael Miller is a nice guy. most of the time. on his bad days, he is really rude, and condescending. i felt singled out alot of the time, whenever he felt like taking his anger out on me. Sometimes he said comments like a non-art-major wouldnt understand some of these things. i dunno, hes funny and all, but the class is tough, and him picking on people on his bad days isnt cool. hes very talented, but also is snooty about it. i felt stupid like every other class. he needs to work on his attitude. | |

Michael is an awesome teacher. His class was challenging and fun for me. He is a great guy and rewards effort generously. Make sure to have all of your assignments ready for class because he will occassionally collect the assignments and write down who has and hasn't finished them. I did extremely poorly on the test (F), but got a B+ and A- on my portfolio reviews and an A on my journal and paper. Make sure to do well on the test. It can really bring your grade down. | |

Michael is awsome! I havent had a better teacher here at poly. he is very funny and he made the class fun. His lectures are interesting and you get to see some slides that are pretty cool. His tests are pretty simple but mainly he evaluates your work and how well you have progressed throughout the class. Michael is a great person and i cant wait to take another class with him. | |

Michael is a practicing artist active in LA and around the world. This makes him better than most instructors at giving good advice based on his current experience, instead of what happened while the instructor was at grad school. He will make you better technically, but his strength is making you better conceptually. I agree with an earlier reviewer that he can be bitchy, but more often he is funny and informative. | |

Michael Miller is very communicative with his students. He loves art and you can tell right away. He is very humorous at times. Look for the fake french accent he does sometimes. You gotta love it. But when it comes learning how to draw well, he can teach you how to "see" better. I totally recommend Miller for Art 101 for all students. If you want to draw better, this is the guy to go to. | |

Mike Miller is very animated and quite humorous. He explains the material clearly and always has time for questions. I learned how to see better and definetly draw better. I would recommend him to any student that is interested in art. | |
