Dr. Mennon is a great teacher. He understands student\'s priority\'s and makes his class very reasonable. Half the course is common the sense the other half is insightful. Dr. Mennon teaches the class very well and tries to use as many different learning techniques (videos, online quizzes, lecture, etc) so students can fully understand. Tests are easy if you\'ve read, and reasonable if you skimmed/showed up to lecture. Minimal work load yet you do get a lot out of the class. I highly recommend this class as well as Dr. Mennon. | |

First off, Dr. Menon is the man. He is really funny and nice, and he treats everyone in his class like his friends. He even sends you funny YouTube videos and gives out prizes in class. IME 421 was a really good class though. I'm not sure what its official title is, but it is basically how to be a good manager. All the homework is online, which is alright, but sometimes the questions are just weird and it seems like there is either 4 correct answers or none, but most of the time it works fine. The book isn't really a book, its more like a binder insert, but it works fine and I actually started liking it by the end of the quarter because I didn't have to worry about remembering to bring it. The midterm/final are both mostly recycled online homework questions, and Menon lets you bring a few sheets of notes, so you should be able to get most of the information you need onto those sheets. Overall, 421 was a really good class. I think I went to every one but one, and I never really minded going, which is saying something for a 9:00 class. If you can take it as a tech elective for any other majors, I would definitely recommend it. If you keep up to date with the homeworks and go to the lectures, this is definitely a class you can ace. | |

IME 418 was one of my favorite courses to take, because it gave me the rare opportunity to be creative while applying novel (at least to me!) engineering techniques. I'm an SE major, and I took this class as a requirement for a multidisciplinary minor, but I highly encourage other majors to take this course, especially those who ultimately will be involved in product design (BMED, GENE, ENVE, MATE, ME, SE, etc) or students who have a passion for innovation and want to learn how to realize them. Another benefit is that this class won't kill you with work (and none of the assignments are tedious!), so it's really easy to fit this class into your schedule. We were given the first few weeks to think about what type of products or services we wanted to create. Professor Menon didn't leave us hanging -- he provided us with materials that helped us come up with innovative ideas, and gave us tools to help us decide which idea we would pursue. This part was really cool because in major related courses you rarely have the chance to make you think outside the box. During the next few weeks, we had determine product requirements -- what sort of materials would be needed? How would it be assembled? What are our users expecting? It was fun, too, to meet up with people who represented our potential users. Professor Menon is always accessible to students requesting help. He's friendly and approachable; you can tell he really cares about his students. His enthusiasm during lectures is only exceeded by his great sense of humor, one time he showed a Robin Williams stand up clip just because. You're missing a great opportunity as an engineer to learn about what you're ultimately doing on the grand scale of things if you don't take this class with him. | |

I would definitely recommend this class! Dr. Menon is an awesome teacher! The first part of the quarter is focused mostly on lectures and the books (not your boring textbook but interesting reading material!!) There is also project that you work on all quarter. Most of the lab time is given to students to work on the project. You have to design a product and consider everything involved in doing that. The final was an open notes final which included a team evaluation, creating powerpoint slides of what we have learned, and a short essay on material from a guest lecturer. There is not much homework. During the first part of the quarter you must write summaries about what you read but it keeps you on top of things. Also, status updates are turned in for the project. Overall this is a great class and Dr. Menon keeps you very informed through email updates too! | |

Excellent professor, did a very good job relating the material to current events and other relevant applications. All tests were also very fair, not too easy but definitely doable if the work is put in. Definitely Recommended | |

I had menon for 418 and 455. I thought he was pretty straight forward. he expects a lot of good work to get a good grade, but your an upperclassmen and you should be used to handing in good work. 418 is a bit more work than 455 but shouldn't be a problem to receive a good grade. | |

Dr. Menon presents the material well, he is able to connect the lecture to real life situations. Some of the labs are pretty long and boring, others are enjoyable and fun. Some of the TA's get carried away with the grading, but it's not too bad. The final project for this course really puts everything you've learned throughout the course to practice, overall this is a pretty cool class. I would definitely take Dr. Menon again. Good luck! | |

The lecture portion of this class was very boring and often-put most of the class to sleep. There are a few important things to be learned which Dr. Menon covered in class. I did like that there were only a midterm and a final, test wise in the class. The labs were very useful but often required some extra explanation and were graded very harshly by the TA | |
