Mike is an amazing professor! He understands that genetics isn't for everyone and keeps class interesting with his jokes and will answer any question you have! He's brilliant and I learned so much from him. Go to class and you will get an A. He will go over every hw with you and make sure you understand it. He's a very forgiving test grader as long as you show you were trying. Awesome dude and class, take him!!

honestly, mike is the shit. he is super laid back, understand that genetics is not everyones favorite subject but he tries to make it interesting. he makes extra office hours for you if you ask, his tests dont really change and you can look at them at the m.a.p. center in the ag building. he has 4 hw assignments, which take an hour to do and are easy points, 3 midterms which all you do is study his notes and youll get an easy 85% on them, and an OPTIONAL final. i went to a couple lectures stoned and i still understood his lectures and they were actually interesting. overall, mike is the shit. take his class!

The lectures are painfully boring, but he tries (tries being the keyword) to keep your attention with funny comments. There are 3 tests + a final and 4 hw assignments. His tests are very fair. He encourages you to write down anything you might now so he can give you partial credit. His past tests are in the MAP center and are very helpful because they're almost identical to your test. Also, for each test and hw assignment there are Barely Extra Credits that you can complete for 1pt. each. It doesn't sound like much, but those e.c. are what pushed me from a B+ to an A-. The final is optional if you're happy with your grade.

he does not explain anything well at all. i have taken classes where i learned the 1st sections material before and he confused me even on stuff i knew well. horrible at explaining things. also bad sense of humor dont make sense and laughs at things that people are asking questions about. read and study on your own you will be fine its not too bad as long as you cn teach yourself

Okay... so this class is kind of a mixed bag. The lecture isn't really helpful at all, and the test and homework questions are difficult to know and study for because they aren't necessarily from the book or lecture. I got a 65 on the first test, but my saving grace was that I used the MAP center test files for this class. I used those to study for every test after the first one, and ended up with a B on the second test and a 92 on the third. If you are pleased with your grade, you can do an optional homework assignment and not take your final. I was happy with a B for this class so that is what I did. Do your best on the homeworks so they will boost your grade, and use the MAP center!

Mike's a really great professor for a certain type of student. You will need to put in quite a bit of mental acrobatics to understand what he's talking about, but he's pretty good at framing concepts in a way that is relatable if you ask him to. His classes are really pretty dull, and difficult to internalize, but he breaks it up with dry humor. (If you don't like dry humor, the class will be pretty joyless.) That being said, Mike is a WONDERFUL guy, and will go above and beyond to ensure you've grasped the material well. His class is rough, but he understands that, and grades fairly (assuming you've put in the work yourself.)

really easy class, i never go to class and i just read the slides off the powerpoints and teach the material to myself. this teacher is really nice, if you email him he is more than willing to write a whole page explaining the matter and to my surprise, really easy to understand.

Mike tries really hard but he\'s not a great teacher in class. He uses powerpoints that he reads to you, has a really dry sense of humor, and he doesn\'t teach. He always started the class with \"Any Questions?\" and \"Class (knocking on desk), Class...Penny?\". random. HOWEVER, he is MORE than willing to meet with you at any time in his office, and if you should be having some trouble, I strongly suggest going to his office hour or making an appointment with him. He actually teaches you one on one. He is also really quick to email you back. For a genetics professor he really knows his stuff but he does mix himself up sometimes...overall I\'d give him a C.
