I'm evaluating this professor posthumously. Mr. Harper passed a few years ago. I took is class as an undergrad, and feel that the quality and standard of excellence that Mr. Harper poured into this class cannot go without praise. Mr. Harper died of bone cancer, but even into his radiation treatments, he came to work, taught his seeds class, and carried his excellent instruction two more quarters until he became bed ridden with his illness. He let us know when he felt tired, cold, and when he hurt. I feel that Mr. Harper's class comprises part of who I am as a Crops Science graduate. I am proud that I was able to take his class, and know that everyone of his students feel the same way. He was one of a kind-quality, hard work, intelligence, scientific, and caring. He loved and nurtured his seeds, his students, and his family. Mr. Harper is missed.

Harper is a good prof, but he is getting old. You can learn a lot in his class, but beware, he is a very tough grader. I had students some disagreements with him over some grading issues. Be ready to dig weeds for 3hrs in lab!!!

Lou is a hard grader and his tests can be difficult. He says he wants the students to learn and know the material. He reminds you of the grandfatherly type and is a friend to all. He loves agriculture, and though he has some physical difficulities, he will take you out in the fields to collect weeds for 3 hr's. You best learn the idenification of the weeds because you will be tested on them over and over until you get it right or you fail.

Dr. Harper is such a nice guy. Before I took this course everyone was telling me how hard Dr. Harper was but I did not have a problem with the class. A lot of people did poorly on the midterm but it really wasn't very hard, it mainly focused on his lectures. Another cool thing about Harper is that he gives out study guides for every chapter we read, these make it easy to study for the tests and quizzes. I would recommend taking soil science before this class, it made everything very easy for me. Overall I would recommend Dr. Harper for this course, he is a great guy.
