Yeh is awesome. She is very down to earth and relatable. She is very helpful in office hours to help you with your essay, and if you can't meet during her regularly scheduled times she's more than willing to meet with you. I really enjoyed her lectures; they were clear and not bogged down with useless information. This class is very informative and I recommend this class/ professor combo! | |

I highly suggest taking Dr. Yeh for either the USCP or for any other GE area. I took her for both ES 244 and 322. Both classes were fairly simple and a nice break from some of my harder courses this quarter. Go to class, participate every so often , and write a semi-intelligent paper and you're looking at an A. If you are looking to re-establish an interest in ethnic studies, adjust the framework in which you view minorities, or examine just how stereotypes function in society, TAKE HER CLASS. you will not regret it | |

Professor Yeh really knows her stuff. She delivers the material well through powerpoints, videos, articles, and readings. The class is very straight forward, as long as you do what she requires and put in the time that a typical GE course requires, you should earn a good grade. She is very approachable and understanding. Lots of chances for extra credit, assignments aren't too hard. Make sure you read the articles before class if you truly want to grasp to do well on the midterms/essays. Straight forward class, material was interesting and I learned other sides of Asian Americans history throughout this course. Not Asian myself, but I actually enjoyed this class. Recommend this class for USCP requirement, thumbs up for Doctor Yeh! | |

I really enjoyed this professor with Professor Yeh. Even though I'm asian, I didn't know there was a long history of asian-americans in this country. So maybe this course had a lot of reading hw but it's not like Yeh tested you on most of it. There were three midterms, one group presentation (short 5 min presentation about an asian-american topic-pretty fun),an immigration paper, an US census transcription+ final essay. There was an option for the final to get involved with a local Japanese-American re-collectiong project but I don't think this will be every quarter. But really, the work is really reasonable and really liked this class. Take care. | |

Professor Yeh was great! I learned a lot about American history is this class and not just specifically about Asian Americans. I really enjoyed learning the portion on Immigration, it's so undiscussed in our culture today and I feel like Americans should have a sense of where we're all from! She's super sweet too! | |

Professor Yeh's class is based on 3 quizes, participation points, and two essays with basic guidelines through out the quarter. There is a group project called a Pecca Kucha, which is only 20 slides long and very manageable. My only regret is not going to office hours more often during the quarter. If your an outgoing person this class is definitely for you! | |

To the contrary of the freshman who posted previously, I feel like she cares about her students but cannot manage to keep this class entertained. No one speaks up since everyone's texting or doing other class work and has dead silence when she asks "any questions?" Its unfortunate because the material is extremely controversial even though we dont seem to get engaged with the text which is all fair game for the quizzes. Be warned this is the hardest part of the class, i feel like everyone has difficulty with these... If you are an Asian American you will be skeptical of the material but hey its an ethnic studies class. | |

This class is so interesting! Prof. Yeh does a great job running the class. There were a couple essays and some projects and a ton of reading. I felt like the midterm was super difficult and it brought my grade down a lot, it was some multiple choice and short answer. The extra credit helps, so do it if you can. She gave an opportunity to edit an essay which was pretty helpful. The last half of the course was super interesting when we talked about more recent events. | |

Fun class. Didn't really participate in class. You lose 1% for every day you miss class. At the end of the quarter she tells you how many days you missed, and trust me she keeps track. She delivers the material well. It's not a hard course. There's only a few things to memorize, and she goes over them so many times that it's hard not to memorize them. This class is very similar to history, which i hate. I still ended up with an A- in the class. Just put effort into her papers and get a C or better on her midterm and you're guaranteed an A | |

Dr. Yeh is awesome! She's very helpful in office hours & in class and genuinely wants all of her students to learn and understand the material. She's very personable and I enjoyed taking her class. The class is mostly based on readings, essays, and discussion. Come to class prepared & go to her office hours before turning in essays and you'll definitely do well in her class! | |

You don't really need to take notes or study too hard for the class. Just pay attention in class and make sure to do the readings (which take 30minutes to 1hour MAX) when you have to. She's really nice and does not mind explaining something over and over again in office hours if you need the help. She grades pretty easily on the essays, got full points on every single one with minimal effort...and considering that I'm a pretty god-awful writer...well you get the idea. She's pretty funny in a dorky way sometimes, and always has a few interesting stories she sometimes shares. Also, she's pleasant on the eyes. (Bonus? For sure) | |

Her lectures were usually a hit or miss, some of them i wish i hadnt gone to class for (EXCEPT ALWAYS GO TO CLASS! each time you miss a class your participation grade goes down 1 percent) and some of the lectures were really interesting. She assigns A LOT of reading, but i learned quite quickly that you dont really have to read them it would just suck if she called on you in class. Midterm 1 was an essay, and pretty easy. Midterm 2 was...horrible, it was a knowledge almost like a history test type exam. She did offer about 4% in total amounts of extra credit at the end of the quarter, so that helped. In the end i found the class really interesting and recommend taking it. | |

Grace Yeh is the master of life. Honestly she amazes me. She is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging as a lecturer, wears adorable clothing, and is a total baller overall. Pretty much I wish I could be her. There is a lot of reading but it\'s do-able and interesting. Definitely worth taking, you won\'t regret it! | |

There is a LOT of reading in this class, a fun group project that you have to present to the class, some short essay responses, a 5-6 pg interview essay & a midterm. Mrs. Yeh is an English major and has a lot of knowledge. She tries to make the class less boring with her jokes and makes the class laugh by saying \"ya\'ll\". The class is a mix between history and Asian American stereotypes. It\'s an interesting class, but it can get monotonous at times. The midterm was difficult, but if you pay attention in class, read the assignments, and study, you\'ll be fine. Also, this class is a USCP approved class. | |

Grace was an alright professor. I was looking forward to learning a broad range of material seeing as it was a GE but the majority of the class is just boohoo here is how America treated Asians crappy stuff you must ALWAYS agree with Grace on... I think it\'s important to learn what different groups of people have been through but when you get to your 7th week straight of all the ways they were discriminate against, trust me, you\'ll be over it. Being an engineer I am biased and hate writing/reading with a passion and the class is very very reading intensive with a TON of essays. | |

I took this class as is satisfies GE area D5 and the USCP requirement. It was really interesting for a reading-intensive class. Our class was a great environment and people would always come, even though attendance wasn\'t taken regularly. We had a lot of fun and Prof. Yeh was great. She really got to know her students and took an interest in our opinions. | |

This class is very interesting and actually fun to go to! It is also an easy A. Weekly you turn in one page discussing one of the readings assigned, and pretty much get full credit just for doing so. There is also a group power point project for which you watch 3 hours of TV and explain to the class how asian americans are portrayed in those three hours. And finally there is a final paper 8-10 pages which you are given a lot of freedom on and she is very helpful in office hours if you are struggling. | |

Dr. Yeh, besides being a total hottie, is a wonderful professor. I honestly learned soo much about Asian American culture in this class. She\'s extremely approachable, nice, smart, and her lectures are smooth and interesting. The grading system relies heavily on you being in class, so don\'t expect to be able to ditch a lot. Overall pretty easy class, if you show up and do your assignments your basically looking at an A. | |

Dr. Yeh starts the quarter by telling everyone that ES 244 will not be their hardest class. It is a survey course, and we covered a broad range of topics with a broad range of learning techniques (making powerpoints, writing essays, even reading a play). There is typically 20-40 pages of assigned reading for every class session (which I did), but I know a lot of people that didn\'t and never got penalized. You just don\'t really have anything to say when the class discusses the subject together. Looking at the post below, it seems to me like she changes the class style a lot. We had the ~10 page immigration paper, but we did a group powerpoint project called a pecha kucha, a survey of cal poly students, and had a midterm covering the material from the first half of the course. In lieu of a final, we wrote one final essay due during finals week expanding on a topic of our choice covered in the second portion of the class. Overall, no matter what your nationality or major, I would highly recommend ES 244 for your area D and USCP all in one. | |

If you are even remotely Asian or interested in Asian culture this class will really expand your understanding on Asian Americans' history and current status. Being half Asian myself I never put much thought in Asians in America and the unique Asian culture that exists here. The statistics and stereotypes are discussed, and the class is quite controversial and talkative. Basically, the class involves reading 1 or 2 articles on some aspect of the Asian culture before class and then discussing it in class with the help of powerpoint slides. Overall, this class consists of: 20% participation and attendance (self-explanatory), 25% Homework (2 easy write ups and a small report and 10 minute presentation on anything Asian American), 10% Immigration paper (interview someone who immigrated and describe the experience and process), 20% Quizzes (2 super easy short answer quizzes), and 25% Final Exam (which isn't really an exam but actually 3 short essays 500-1000 words that you turn in during finals week) If you need your USCP satisfied this class is really worth it. Grace is youthful and sooooo hot (a Taiwanese Southerner?). I wrote the worst homework papers and essays and she always gives me an A- or A (I think everyone who tried got A's), which makes me feel guilty for always being on my phone... =(. I'm sure my participation will be docked and I don't really know what grade I've gotten yet but I'm sure it's a lot better than I deserve. My only negative comment is that GE classes should NOT be 2 HOURS LONG... I don't care how interesting the subject is. Eventually you'll start texting or doodling... sorry Grace haha. Overall this class is easy, super interesting, a breath of fresh air, and it beats staring at old ass engineering professors. ^___^ | |
