PSY 252 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 11:09 pm, Aug 21, 2012 Report Evaluation |
Fantastic professor. She's really interested in the subject matter, which makes the lectures a lot more interesting. It's a very dynamic class; you'll constantly be getting into groups for little activities and discussions which can be pretty fun. The big project is the norm violation project, but it's a group project so it's incredibly easy and is actually pretty laid back and enjoyable! The midterm and final are pretty straightforward, though a little tricky at times. Most of it comes right from the lecture notes and readings (which I suggest you do, since the test covers things that are in the book but not in lecture), though some requires you to apply what you've learned (these can be tricky). Super relaxed class with very interesting subject matter. Only reason I got a B+ is I was up all night doing nothing and passed out while studying the following afternoon. Messed up on the final, which by the way is NOT cumulative! Chill.

PSY 314 Junior Grade Earned: B Elective 4:20 pm, Mar 6, 2012 Report Evaluation |
She is a very nice person. Uses overhead for all her lectures. Just one midterm and a final. Three papers which are fairly easy. The tests are 50 questions, multiple choice but are very hard! Definitely need to read the book and memorize almost everything from the lecture. Like I said she is very nice but the way she teaches makes her class more difficult than it needs to be.

Good teacher and pretty straight forward class. A couple minor problems with clarity in what is expected for an A paper, but nothing terrible.

PSY 252 Freshman Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 4:00 pm, Jun 14, 2011 Report Evaluation |
An okay class... the material was pretty interesing, Professor Garcia was excited and presented material very clearly. I thought the tests would be much easier... but they're not. She grades very fairly on the large project and presentation, though (the Norm Violation). My group got 100% and we didn't have to put too much effort into it. Definitely worth reading the book as there are questions on the test from the book and not lecture.

PSY 252 Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 8:08 pm, May 17, 2011 Report Evaluation |
Dr. Garcia is a fantastic professor who truly cares about her students. Her class is not easy, but if you follow along with the book and attend all the lectures an A is definitely possible. But like most classes, you definitely need to work for an A! Go to her office hours!!

Garcia is organized and planned out the class well. You just have to show up and take notes and you can do pretty well plus the material is interesting.

Dr. Garcia is REALLY cool! I was having a lot of problems in teh beginning of this class and she helped me so much in office hours. I\'m actually getting an A now! I think she\'s famous too. My friend goes to Stanford and he had to read one of her articles for his class.

PSY 252 Freshman Grade Earned: N/A Required (Major) 11:12 pm, Feb 28, 2010 Report Evaluation |
Garcia is an OK teacher. She makes you come to class to take the notes that are exactly from the book. Every lecture is just going over what you read the night before, so don\'t bother reading. There are 4 journal entries that you must complete about key terms from the reading and she grades the first one pretty hard. Study hard for her tests though because she is not an easy grader. Overall the class was boring and uneventful. Don\'t take her if you can avoid it.

PSY 252 Senior Grade Earned: B Elective 2:22 pm, Feb 22, 2010 Report Evaluation |
Professor Garcia is a solid teacher. The class was pretty straight forward: online journal posts, group project, midterm, final, and participation all factor in. The homework is pretty simple and won\'t keep you too busy. Keeping up the readings can be challenging though. However, if you dislike power point lectures, be prepared to be very bored. Also, the tests were multiple choice but were not that easy. Some of the questions cover very minor details that are briefly mentioned in one sentence of the reading and not mentioned at all during lecture. You\'ll definitely have to know the material to get an A though its pretty easy to get a B in the class.

PSY 470 Junior Grade Earned: A Required (Support) 10:31 am, Dec 1, 2008 Report Evaluation |
Dr. Garcia is amazing! Psy 470 is Special Advanced Topics and Dr. Garcia's section is Social Psychology of Prejudice. This class was great you learn a lot about prejudice from both the perspective of the prejudiced person and the person at the receiving end. I took this in Spring 08 which was the first quarter it was offered. Grades were based 3 exams, all multiple choice and short answer with extra credit available; being the discussion leader for a day which you did with a partner; and a brief (5 pages, I think) research paper and presentation which was also done with a partner. The assignments were interesting and really didn't take much time to do. My partner and I talked to Dr. Garcia before we were discussion leaders to make sure we were on the right page with what she was looking for. She was very helpful and we got a near perfect A. The content really makes you think about how we preceive others. I definitely recommend this class.
