MATH 244 Freshman Grade Earned: B Required (Support) 1:11 pm, Jun 5, 2011 Report Evaluation |
I took this spring of 2010 and Dana was the most friendly and approachable professor I ever had. I messed up on her first midterm hard because I had no time to study for it. She helped me out a lot afterwards and i ended up doing much better on the second midterm and the final. Dana didn't teach in 2010-2011 but everyone who had her loved her class. She gives you candy during tests to munch on when you're stuck on a problem. Best math professor I've had. My friends did not enjoy linear 1 with any other professor but I liked linear 1 a lot just because paquin made it so much simpler to understand

Paquin is clear and concise with the material. She relates really well with the students because she is a younger teacher. She hands out the lecture notes before so you are not trying to take notes instead of listening to the lecture. Her tests do a good job in covering the material. Overall, a great choice for MATH 244 (Linear Analysis).

Dr. P is an excellent teacher. She actually wants her students to learn and she spends time going over plenty of examples in each class. Her tests are really fair. She ISN\'T one of those teacher who gives you super easy examples in class and then tests you on super hard ones, instead she tests you on examples very similar to what she teaches in class. She is very helpful and is able to notice when her students are confused. My favorite math teacher at Poly.

Dr. Paquin is an excellent teacher who goes out of her way to take care of here students. She writes tests that the students expect to see. She has mostly one-on-one relationships with students during office hours in which she\'ll know you by name and even learn you academic habits. This really helped me when I was struggling because she was able to recognize it and help me out.

One of the best math professors here. She types up the notes for you everyday which makes taking notes in class much easier. She is extremely knowledgeable in her area and is a good TEACHER. She will clarify concepts and \"dumb it down\" until you understand. She is concerned with student success and wants to see you learn as much as possible. Her tests can be difficult and have some theoretical questions, but she prepares you well.

MATH 244 Junior Grade Earned: C Required (Major) 10:40 pm, Apr 5, 2010 Report Evaluation |
Dr. Paquin is highly knowledgeable about the linear analysis material. From what I remember there was almost no question she couldn\'t accurately answer almost instantly after it was asked. She\'s young and somewhat cute and gets along really well with the students in class. However, make sure you stay attentive – sometimes the material can get a little complex and if you lose track of it even for a minute it might throw you off. If you can keep up with her lectures and take good notes, she explains everything very well. If you don\'t like homework and can get by with just the lectures – this is the class for you! The homework isn\'t due, but of course, like any other math class, it\'s highly suggested that you get some practice in and do some of them each week. My problem was that I got a little lazy and stopped doing the homework problems about halfway through the class, which probably wasn\'t the best thing for me (but was nice, as I could be lazier than usual!). Here\'s the major pro for having Dr. Paquin – all the quizzes are open note, so if you take good notes and copy everything down that she writes on the board each day you\'ll be able to easily ace them. Also worth noting is the fact that many of the quiz questions come directly from those assigned to us as homework problems, so if you do all the homework, you\'ve pretty much done most of the upcoming quiz questions and can simply copy them down on the quiz. The only thing that can be somewhat tricky are the true/false questions at the end of each quiz – those really test your knowledge about the subject and it\'s unlikely the homework will cover these. Then there are the tests. Dr. Paquin can produce some difficult exams, so yes, you better study and prepare for them if you aren\'t as confident about math as other students may be. For instance, the final was hard – in fact I think I pretty much outright failed that thing, knocking my entire class grade down from a nice B to a distasteful C! Finally, a major component of the class that really made it stand out from previous math courses (like calcs 1 through 4) were the weekly lab days. If you get good partners to help you on these “projects”, they can definitely boost your grade as they can be easy A\'s if you\'re responsible about getting them done. However, during lecture, it would be sometimes awkward when Dr. Paquin says all of a sudden for us to practice a few problems in our groups, and since nobody\'s really sitting near their lab partners, everyone stays quiet and doesn\'t collaborate like she\'d assumingly like, which can be a little weird. Overall, Paquin was one of the better math teachers I\'ve had at Poly – take her if you can!

dana is an awesome teacher, probably the best i\'ve had in my three quarters here at poly. she presents the material in a straightforward manner that is very easy to understand. she also cares about the students in her class unlike a lot of professors and creates an atmosphere where a lot of the students become friends. overall a great teacher

Dana Paquin is an awesome teacher. She is very clear at showing the information, even though the information in this class can be very bewildering. 244 is not really all that hard, its simply just a lot of manipulation of basic algebra that you have to memorize. If you want to pass 244 with a good grade and good understanding of the material, take Dr P. Also, she is totally bangin hot.

Dr. Paquin is THE best teacher. She presents the material is the most straightforward way possible, and provides many examples that really help you understand. Weekly quizzes are open note, and many of them are straight from the homework. The midterm and final take some questions from the quizzes, so studying those really help. She is the most amazing teacher, I can\'t describe her anyway else. She really knows what she\'s talking about, and will help any student who doesn\'t understand even a little bit. You will not regret taking her.

Thanks to Dr.P, I am absolutely in love and I repeat in love with the scariest class ever... Calculus. She made the material easy to understand and she actually made me consider becoming a math major. Thanks Dr.P, you have really made my first year at Cal Poly awesome. Take her class and I swear you will never look back. Goodluck.

Dr. Paquin is a great teacher. you can joke around with her and she is laid back in class. the only thing that sucked was the ALEKS thing she assigned, just a lot of work. theres a quiz every week, open note which helped a ton. she always posts good study guides on her blackboard for the midterm and final. Also have a lab on fridays which are pretty easy. its save to say shes one of the best math teachers here at poly

Dana Paquin was a lucky find. Very smart woman who is young compared to many professors at poly. Being young she has a great sense of what College is like in the 21st century and therefore teaches at a student level. She had types outlines of her lecture that she would pass out everyday so you could actually pay attention to what she was doing and take side notes instead of trying to frantically trying to copy down every little thing. Over all, very good, you will not be disappointed.

I took her for math 142 and now i\'m taking her for math 244, because she has been the best math professor i\'ve had. She organizes the material in a way that is understandable, and works on examples in class that are relevant to the hw and tests. I also liked the fact that she isn\'t there to see if you remember material from previous classes, she tests you on material specific to the class.

Dr. Paquin was by far the best math teacher I\'ve seen here at Cal Poly. She is very clear in the lectures and her method of teaching is very logical and allows the student to easily progress through the steps it takes to solve a problem. Her office hours are an excellent resource and she is always very nice. She is very easy to get along with and you can joke with her in class. She definitely eased the pain of calculus quite a bit.

She is an excellent professor, you can tell that immediately after the first day of class. She is friendly and you can joke around with her, but she always makes good sense of the material, showing where all new formulas come from before using them. She teaches through example problems each lecture, which really helps on the homework problems which are assigned daily and collected twice a week. You work in groups on the weekly quizzes, but they can be difficult. Two midterms and a final - study for them on top of doing homework, it will make them go by much easier. She coordinates homework problems with other professors, so you can work on them together with your peers in other classes, and she gives out a very clear review with each test (use it , calculus has tough tests), and her office hours are a valuable resource. Overall she is the best professor I have had yet, and I would highly recommend her. I didn\'t get the best grade in the class since I slacked on the homework and in studying for finals, but if you make this class a priority (which you should), all that she helps you with will guarantee you a good grade. I honestly feel that I have a strong grasp on the material from this instructor, take her if you ever have the chance
