Chandrika has a very well planned out course for the lab portion of 307. The assignments were relevant and clearly explained and fun. It wasn't too much work and it was fairly easy but i feel like I learned a lot in this class. She is passionate about ECS and is very through with her explanation of the material. I highly recommend her for ECS if you can take her.

Chandrika's studio was... interesting. We basically started off the class by doing a "proportions" exercise in which we built a folly that demonstrated our knowledge of ECS while meeting her demand for the integration of such proportions... We then moved on to programming our hospital (based in Morro Bay >_>) and finally designing the thing. I'm not too sure how much I got out of this class. I remember being very excited in the beginning only to have her make a lecture to the class about the beauty of the rectangle... She double majored in construction management, so her knowledge of what actually works and knowledge of practical details is definitely a plus. She's also really passionate about sustainable architecture which I found fun... but I don't know. I guess I felt like the class didn't really push my creativity as much as I hoped it would. She does play favorites... but just make sure not to argue with her and you should be fine. (Pretend she is your client?) I'd definitely taker her over other professors. However, considering whats out there I don't think that is saying a lot.

Pros: Chandrika is a very helpful design teacher and wants you to succeed. She seems to know her stuff and presents it fairly well. She has you learn various stages of a design process which helps keep your project design cohesive. She also stresses design and ordering principles so that the geometry of your designs is never arbitrary. Cons: Sometimes you have to put in a lot of effort to actually get her to talk to you as she tends to become interested with a small group of students' projects and spend most of her time with them. Class was fairly easy for the first month and then was nonstop work for the rest of it. Overall I would definitely recommend taking her especially when considering most of the other 2nd year profs.
