Professor Jumonville teaches this course more as a one-sided discussion than as a real lecture, and I mean that in a positive way. Most of his material is off-the-cuff; though he does prepare well for each day, he needs no notes to successfully demonstrate his knowledge, which is incredible. He is happy to take even the most ridiculous questions and spend real time explaining things in a different way until the student understands. He puts a lot of emphasis on the project, which is pretty sweet if you like building things, and a lower emphasis on his exams. Unfortunately, he does not prepare students well for the exams, though they are easy enough. I had to guess at a lot of the content on the first, and did fairly well. I would take this class again, as it is enjoyable for me to listen to an industry insider and capable professional talk about their experiences at work, what kinds of projects they have been on, and what types of things tend to go wrong or are often overlooked. Jumonville talks rather than lectures, and it is very refreshing.

This class was very easy and the final project was fun. He put too much emphasis on the final project however. Much of class time was dedicated to discussing the project. I also wish he taught more \"turbo\" of turbomachinery. I don\'t care about bearings and seals, lets discuss compressors and turbines!

Not only is he really shitty about explaining material, got a 80.17% in class without curve, and still got a C. Its the only class I ever took at Poly where the curve actually hurt my grade.

This guy is pesonable enough, and definitley knows his stuff, I will give him that. But his lectures are extremely hard to follow, and no office hours to help clarify problems compounds this. He has a strange philosophy about teaching, I swear he said something to the effect that we have to figure out on our own what we will need to know for tests, that it is not his job to "baby us", which he feels other professors do by doing sample problems or suggesting problems we can work on our own to help understand the material. Apparently those requests are too much too ask for. He says that that is how things are in the world of engineering, but by that point, we are getting paid. So basically, there is no point in paying money to take this class, as we will have to figure it out ourselves anyway. Better save the money and aggrivation, don't take this class, use the money to buy more books and learn on your own. Its only an elective, and there are many others to take. Not worth it in my opinion.
