Good sense of humor, very reasonable and overall I thought she was a good teacher. If you have any sort of time conflict she will do her best to compensate. Sometimes her lectures/handouts were a bit unclear but I also tended to zone out for parts of her lectures. If you go to the class and do the HW it's a very doable class.

Great professor. She has a heavy Russian accent but is that really a negative? The only real negative about this class is that it is early in the morning and is five days a week. But honestly take this class if you can. It's not an easy A but Olga is a great Professor and an awesome person.

If you want, you can just stop reading and take her, cause she's dope. Had her at 7 AM Monday-Friday and actually ended up going to class because she's an awesome teacher. 3 midterms, a project, and a cumulative final. 2 homeworks due per week. She explains the material extremely well and has the notes already made for you, so all you have to do is print them out and fill some stuff in. One of my favorite teachers at CP so far.

Olga is one of my favorite people at Cal Poly though her teaching style is very quick and sometimes hard to follow. That being said, she makes up for it with amazing office hours, quick responses to emails, and great leniancy with assignments. She bends over backwards for students to make sure they understand the material and aren't going to just pass. She knew everyone by name and took the time to get to know us which made the office hours a lot more helpful. All in all, one of the best teachers I've had here at Cal Poly.

Olga is such a great lady but not the best professor. She moves very very quickly and jumps around. The material is not presented in the most organized manner but it is still understandable. Mostly we had one homework assignment and a quiz or two per week. If you go to class everyday (5 days a week) you get an extra point on your final each week so go to class! It's worth it. I can't say getting up at 7 am was worth it though. Overall, she really cares about you and your grade but the class is quite difficult still.

Had this class at 7am every day thinking it was going to be horrible, but Olga was the greatest. Seriously, I would hang out with her on my free time if I could. She taught the subject extremely well and made you actually want to go to lecture. She took the time to get to know everyone's name and made a personal connection with all of her students. I never thought I'd actually like a 7am M-F class. Take Olga if you can, no matter what time. It's worth it!

She's not all she's made out to be. She can sometimes be unclear in what she says and her tests can sometimes be solely based on minitab outputs so it doesn't really match all you learn. That said, she is definitely one of the nicer ladies on campus and probably the best stats professor you can get. No doubt about that. I just came into the class with really high expectations based on her polyratings and I simply wasn't all too impressed.

Okay, Olga is simply the greatest person I have ever met. She is great professor, even at 7 am I enjoyed going to her class. She truly cares about each person in the class and makes a point to every persons name. In office hours she is very very helpful if there is anything in the class you are struggling with. The topic itself isn't easy, but she will make it as easy as possible for you. Not to mention her grading. Even on a true/false question she will give you at least half credit even if wrong. So basically if you answer half the questions right you're guaranteed at least a C. Highly, highly, highly recommend taking her.

Olga is THE best stats teacher in mankinds history. Back in the days before the glyphs were translated into common language there was a prophecy that there would one day be an epic stats teacher. That had been fulfilled in the form of Professor Olga Dekhtyar. She holds office hours almost every day and is extremely helpful and nice. She offers tons of extra help because stats is a very difficult class. I am so thankful to have had her, and I'm sorry that she doesn't expand to enlighten other departments on how they can be more like her.

If you don't understand anything she went over go to office hours. I also suggest taking the workshop if you can. It is really helpful. The material is pretty boring. There are 4 total tests, homeworks and quizzes. She sometimes goes over the material pretty fast, so if you didn't get something, it is your responsibility to ask her to explain it again. Over all great professor.

probably one of the best teachers I've had in my life. very nice lady who presents the material clearly and is very fair in grading tests. understands that students have to know a load of formulas, and gives us formula sheets for tests because of this. she has very early classes, but does not mind if you oversleep and miss the class - she invites you to attend her later class. The only drawback about her is that it is widely known how good she is, and her classes, even her 7 am class, fills up very quickly. its worth it if you can get in

I took AP Statistics my senior year of high school, so this class was a lot of review. Olga's tests are long, but manageable if you paid attention in class and did the homework. Homework is due twice a week, but its nothing too difficult. We took 12 short quizzes through the quarter, but they alternated between partner and individual. For every full week you attended class, she added a point to the Final test. Aside from the class, Olga really takes her time to get to know her students on a more personal level. @ the Freshman below...her husband doesn't even teach STATS. OLGA CARES! A lot of material to cover in a short amount of time, so yes, she seems rushed. And true, she always keeps us a few minutes past the hour. But nut up and ask if you're having trouble understanding something and she'll go over it! If we don't finish the handout, she posts the solutions online, and answers are easily found in teh book. I've never had a teacher so interested in both the material AND her students. She held study sessions on weekends before the midterms! Her Office Hours were like 15 hours per week! She will let you take the midterms on alternate days if you have two midterms on the same day! She responds to e-mails IMMEDIATELY and will MAKE time for you if you seek help. She prints handouts every lecture which are EXTREMELY helpful! Forget looking over past midterms or reading the book, I just studied her handouts and did great on all exams (she's an extremely lenient grader). My favorite class this quarter, even though it was at 8am M-F. Take her!

Overall, I didn\'t like this class. Although she was living in Us for a lomg time her English is really bad. She lacks words to explain the matterial and she expects the class to help her. Her test are difficult and cover a lot more than the matterial covered in class. The lectures in class are based on her notes which most of the time I found difficult to follow. The exams unfortunatelly are not only based on the notes but also on the book. She has 4 tests which are extremelly diffilt. The only good think is that she allowes one page notes for each exams which most of the time deosn\'t help at all because some of the questions have never been covered in class. She spends her office hours helping the students to understand the matterial she couldn\'t explain in class.I attended her office hours almost everyday and even I did, I had a lot of problems with the matterial. When she wasn\'t able to adress my questions she asked other students to do it. Overall, SUCKED!!!!

This teacher is amazing. She has a heavy russian accent and sometimes things can be lost in translation when you are asking her questions or when she tries to explain something. However she completely makes up for it with her great class structure. She pre-assigns the homework days in the begining of the quarter and gives you plenty of time to complete the assignments and only strays from the plan when it benefits all students. All her lectures are from material covered in the book and follow worksheets she prints out so it makes everything so easy to follow. I can pretty easily say Olga is my favorite teacher at Cal Poly. She really, really cares about her students. Because of my 251 teacher I was really stressing about taking 252. I hated Stats with a passion. However after the first week, I wasn\'t as afraid. I went into office hours after the first homework to clarify some issues and ended up doing every single other homework assignment in her office with a group. Make friends the first week of class because if you can work with people it\'ll make everything painless. This is not a class you want to take on by yourself. Also, if Ross is doing a workshop, I wouldn\'t recommend signing up for it necessarily because it is extremely time consuming, but definitely go. I got an A- but I would have been a lot less stressed out had I gone to more of the workshops, and I truly owe that grade to the few workshops I did go to. Professor Dekhtyar is very friendly and on the first day of class, she told us to call her Olga because her last name was hard to pronounce. Olga presented the material with ease and knows what she\'s talking about. The homework could be done w/ another person and it\'s easy for the most part. Quizzes are easy as well because it\'s done in groups and sometimes w/ open notes. If you are a math guru, don\'t expect this class to do a lot of calculations because Olga has a lot of conceptual questions instead that she likes applied instead of calculating the \"numbers\". For the tests, you would have to study the handouts she gives out in class, the practice mid-terms, and go to her office hours and ask questions if something is unclear. She does require a project that you have to turn in, but she gives ample amount of time to finish the work. Great Professor.. 3 mid-terms//quizzes//homework//project//Final. Highly recommend.

Olga is a sweetheart. She has office hours every day and is very willing to help because she cares about her students. She uses Blackboard to post homework and test reviews so be sure to check it regularly. Sometimes her lectures are difficult to understand and no one really asks questions because it's the morning, but I suggest you do ask questions, or go to her office hours. We basically had two homework assignments due, a few short quizzes, and one review quiz every week. She will let you have group quizzes often. The homework problems from the book are pretty different from the quizzes and the questions she makes up, and they usually don't end up on the tests, but the quiz questions do. She goes through the homework thoroughly when grading. Four exams were listed on the syllabus but we only got to three. They usually happen every other week. She gives you review questions before each test which help, so do at least some of the example problems. She schedules a review before the final as well. Olga is a very nice lady. Her tests are pretty easy and her quizzes are straightforward. After having her for a second straight quarter (251 to 252), I have found some negatives to her class unfortunately. First of all, the homework is ridiculous. Anything that is ever on the homework will not show up on quizzes/tests (the quizzes and tests are way easier as you are given the minitab output instead of having to create it like on the homework). She also has someone else grade the homework and they are a nazi as far as accuracy so it ends up lowering your grade when it shouldn't. I felt as if I was going to go out of the class with an A as I did well on the tests, but I guess the homework screwed me over. Stupid. Olga is also a little difficult to understand sometimes and you can find yourself spacing off because you can't understand what she is saying. Granted, you get used to it after awhile but you still find yourself going off on individual tangents which turned into a problem for me throughout the quarter. I would find myself not understanding a certain subject and thus doing poorly on the quiz. However, Olga likes to give group quizzes which are nice because everyone basically works together and you're pretty much guaranteed a 100% on the quiz. When all said and done, Olga is still the best stats teacher and is the most understanding and respectful by far. Take her if you can!

Olga is an amazing instructor -- she is knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely cares about how her students do in her classes. Olga knows statistics and understands how to teach the subject (and works with students during her office hours, before her 8:00am class (!) and at other set appointment times...). So she is able to understand how each student learns differently and works with them to learn/understand the material. She wants her students to do well and to truly grasp the concepts. The grade breakdown is great -- 2 midterms, a final, quizzes, homework, and a project -- so students are not heading into this course with a huge amount of pressure to do well on the three exams. If you put in the time and effort, you can do well in this course... even if you are not a stats person (as I am not...).

TAKE HER!! she is my favorite teacher i have ahd at cal poly. she is so sweet and cares about each student. she wants everyone to do well. the class is not that difficult and the quizzes are not that bad. usually the class talked her into giving us a group quiz anyways. make sure to do hw thoroughly because she actually checks to make sure your answers are correct.

Olga is amazing. She honestly cares about her students and genuinely wants everyone to pass. Go to class and take her little quizzes which are given randomly. Go to the scheduled reviews. If you do these two things as well as the homework, (which was due every Tuesday...all 3 problems...not bad at all) you will actually learn stats...good luck

Absolutely loved her! So far, my favorite teacher at Cal Poly. The homework and investigation assignments were not too bad because we were allowed to work together and if you have a problem getting it to her that day she has no problem with people turning in hw late. I would recommend going to her office hours because she kinda drops some hints about what to expect on the upcoming midterm/final. Take her!

Olga is the best stat 252 teacher!!! I took her class winter 2008 and she was new...I think it was either her first or second quarter teaching at Cal Poly. She has a Russian accent but you can still understand her really well. She presents material through powerpoint and then does examples on minitab. Her weekly homework load took me about 20 minutes per week. She had quizzes on a weekly basis but every quiz had a bonus point. The midterms and finals had bonus points as well. Those bonus points add up pretty quickly! Her grading is spread pretty evenly and so none of the tests will hurt your grade significantly. There's a group project at the end of the quarter but she grades that pretty easily. This class is an easy A and on top of that you actually learn!

Olga is the best teacher ever. Her class is super easy. There are only like 4 homework assignments and they take only like 30 minutes. The project she has you do is really easy. On test if you ask her questions she will always help you out. You can always squeeze a couple of extra credit points out of her. Simply put she is the best teacher ever.

Olga is the coolest stats teacher ever! Just make sure you know how to spell her last name. She grades fair, and does her best to help you get an A. Your grade is mostly based on 2 midterms and a final, as well as a few homework assignments and a group project which is pretty easy.
