Kind of creepy. Talks way too much. Be glad it isn't a lecture. Hard to screw up this lab.

Gibbs is a decent professor. He tends to lecture with a monotone voice, and makes the subject of welding seem quite tedious, but all of his lecture slides are posted on PolyLearn, and most of the questions you may have can be clarified in the text. As this is a lecture, there is a large number of students in attendance, so it would be a bit out of place to seek one-on-one time in office hours. That being said, you will probably never have to utilize them anyway, as the homework does a good job of discussing the subject of welding, and his lectures make enough sense. And while the lectures are somewhat missable, stay for the Dilbert cartoon and his demotivational posters, and the review session he does at the beginning.

He's very nice when it comes to making mistakes (EXCEPT when you're doing something wrong on a mill!) but he's really incoherent. He stutters AND stammers. Also if you like Dilbert, take him, he read a FULL comic strip every lecture. Fun class in that you make a screwdriver and Air Motor (what do I do with an air motor?)

Professor Gibbs is very intelligent and knows his stuff about welding. However, his lectures are very boring and dry, so it is a challenge to come to class every week.

He is a nice old man, but definitely in the wrong position for IME 143. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR 143. He admitted he wasn't very good. I had him 2 quarters in a row, and saw that he was actually competent in welding, which was a much better experience. It still worries me with his crappy eyesight that he can operate machinery and welding equipment. For welding, not half bad. For machining, made the TA's do all the work.

Really easy class. Everything was online, so going to class wasn't necessary. The lecture was really boring, but the lab was a ton of fun. Good professor, awesome class.

ENGR 302 Senior Grade Earned: A General Ed 11:17 pm, Dec 15, 2010 Report Evaluation |
Professor Gibbs is the nicest old man. He could not really control the class because there were a bunch of disrespectful people in it but he only wants everyone to love engineering as much as him. I am far from an engineering major and hardly paid attention in class. I attended every class even though it was not necessary. He lectures but gives you the slides and you usually watch videos which you are tested on. There is also a group presentation and easy quizzes on each presentation. NO HOMEWORK EVER and NO READING! This class is a perfect GE. The tests are super easy you get a cheat sheet and as long as you read the powerpoints and video notes your good to go. He ends up curving at the end of most of them too! Take this class for an interesting and light work load!

I had Gibbs for welding lecture. He\'s a really nice guy and you never had to go to class. He posts his powerpoint slides online and videotapes his lectures and posts those online too. Theres four online homeworks worth 25 points each that are super easy cause you get two tries and the final is worth 100 points. But the lab counts for 200 points and you cant NOT get 200 points so basically you go into the final with 300/400 points. And the final is a peice of cake. Get Williams for lecture tho, hes the man. Gibbs kinda goes off on random tangents during his lectures, but youre fine barely paying attention

Professor Gibbs is a great human being, who is vary lenient as to deadlines, as far as allowing students extra time to complete lab reports as a result of clarifications. He is amazing in his office hours, and is easily able to clarify what and why the lab results turned out as they did. He likes to use powerpoint, which is helpful. He also likes to mix up the format of his weekly quizzes (one week: MC, fillin the blank, and matching). Just be weary of his Multiple Multiple choice quiz. Overall, if you take this professor make sure to bring coffee to class, or a snack because of his monotone voice.

Gibbs gets a bad rap. He\'s a nice guy, maybe a little odd, but passionate about what he does and helpful in office hours. Yes, his lectures are boring and pointless, but its an easy A if you do the homework. He kinda reminds me of melvin from office space.

Gibbs is a pretty chill guy, but going to lectures will drain any energy you have. Most of the time he\'ll get sidetracked on some random story, but he is very knowledgeable about his stuff. The 4 homeworks are ridiculously easy if you at least attempt to make an educated guess, and the final was simple.

Professor Gibbs was a lecturer who went off on tangents from his lectures or read straight off his powerpoints. The lecture was hard to understand is association with the subject matter.

Dr. Gibbs is a boss. At first he seems a little bit odd, but he's a great guy. His lectures are all powerpoint and are a little bit lacking in excitement, but he really goes to an effort to give you practical knowledge. I took his corrosion class immediately before working for the oil industry and it was the class I relied on the most. While other teachers throw all kinds of wasteful academia stuff at you Gibbs brings the voice of experience and practicality. Dont take his class if you're just trying to get an easy A (Although it is REALLY easy), because you wont enjoy it. Take it for the oppurtunity to learn about things no other mate prof knows. Regarding the class itself, like i said, its easy and educational. The tough part is the reports, you really cant get behind on the weekly lab writeups, because they do consume some time. You also have to pass weekly quizzes (easy) and write a term paper, (tough to write, but graded easy). Good luck
