The Good - Brian Cowen is a younger guy but has a good amount of real world experience in the subject he is teaching (Production Management). He makes halfway decent comparisons of concepts to real life and attempts to do a good job of engaging the class. He also gets grades back typically within the week of whatever assignment or test occurred. Midterms are open book, note, and internet but are long drawn out written questions. The Bad - Conversely, he does not have much "textbook" experience and is unorganized. He also shows some unfairness when it comes to the participation grades, which are unfairly weighted as well (10% of the entire class based on participation). By participation, I mean that he expects you to offer your own opinion or an "original example". If he asks for an example about retail stores and quality, a girl who talks about how she loves to shop at Macy's on the weekends with her Daddy's money will probably get participation points. Also, make sure you know things related to your concentration because if he comes across something in the material related to Finance, for example, he'll probably ask a Finance student in the class to lecture for 5 minutes to people who weren't listening in the first place. The Class - You can probably get an A if you get B's and A's on the tests and talk to him in class every once in awhile, and you'll almost surely get a B if you know how to count from 1 to 10. If you aren't an IT major, just be ready for one of the more pointless classes you've taken at Poly. | |
