His voice is extremely monotone. If you have difficulty staying awake in math lectures, AVOID THIS CLASS THE MOST. Especially when it's offered in 2 hour blocks for 2 days. I get drowsy 10 minutes into lecture. :( It's really bad. One homework assignment due at the end of each week before a weekly quiz. Not hard if you spend time on the homework, and read the textbook for further understanding. He predigests the information before regurgitating it to you in class. Literally, predigests. His notes are eh... cool, but not very helpful to stay awake in class. He's an okay teacher. And he's a hunk. He coaches football in Paso Robles. Yeah. Imagine a jock with a deep monotone voice teaching math, putting you to sleep.

I ended up dropping the class, not because Professor Hahlbeck was a bad teacher but because he did expect you to have learned and remember all your previous math classes' material, and I hadn't done math for a year and didn't remember at all. A little review would have been helpful. He was very nice though and stopped to answer all questions. His voice is a little monotone in class, make sure not to doze off. Notes are his handwritten copies that he distributes, which I didn't particularly care for, but they were relatively helpful.

I thought Hahlbeck was pretty good; at least not as bad as some of these ratings indicate. His expectations are really clear, and it's just the right amount of work (though it can get a little frantic because you have three midterms). He tended to derive and prove a lot of stuff in class, rather than just give the formula you need, and sometimes I felt it got a little convoluted and confusing. If you bring it to his attention though, he'll make a good effort to try to clarify a point. He does a lot of helpful examples too. If you take good notes in lecture and do the homework (and do it right), you'll be fine in the class. Also, some others have mentioned the extra attention paid to girls. He tended to call on them more for answers. It didn't bother me, and I don't think the girls were bothered by it. To be fair, it is easy to quickly learn the names of the few girls in class as opposed to the large number of guys.

STAT 312 this Fall semester with Hahlbeck was great. For the first half of class, he would lecture using his own handouts (which you could print online and bring to class). For lecture, he went over a variety of examples on the board and on MINITAB that were sometimes pretty entertaining to listen to. There were three midterms, each of which was on the easier side if you understood the concepts, reviewed all the example problems from his lecture, and did the assigned homework. The Final wasn't much harder either, and was worth just as much as a midterm (20%!). Overall, a very good teacher for STAT 312. I felt like I used a lot of useful tools I could use in the real world involving statistics, and this was my first Stat class!

I really enjoyed taking Hahlbeck for Stats. He really is a good teacher. If you have trouble learning math, he goes a good pace so you can understand everything. He really cares about his students and it shows. He is helpful in office hours (yes, somtimes there are flirty girls that get annoying, but what are you gonna do?) and if you don't understand something during lecture, ask and he doesn't mind clarifying during class. The midterms are fair (just study the notes and you should be fine). I think what I most liked about him is that he teaches with exaples. His lectures are exaples that he creates that coincide with the homework. There are three midterms (one every two weeks) and a final, Homework is due weekly (usually assigned monday and due the following monday), and there is a weekly quiz at the end of the week. Overall, I would recomend this class.

This was his first quarter teaching the engineering version of stats so he was getting used to the pace and the level of questions from the students. He always took his time to answer everyone's questions and did a good job at it too. He gave lots of examples, and worked minitab on the screen for everyone to see. Minitab is amazing and will help you if you learn it. He does have favorites though so if you don't like being pointed out in class in every example don' sit in the front/talk to him too much other than about class. Quizzes almost every week, if you know your stuff you should be fine, lowest one dropped. Homework every week, lowest one dropped. Midterms and final same just know your stuff and review the quizzes. Overall not too bad of a class, I just got mixed up during quizzes.

Spend actual time. and cram your ass off for the final.. its cumulative but still you get a full sheet of notes and its not as hard as the first two. Half the time he wouldn't post the lecture notes online the night before, so you can't follow along and you'd just get super confused. It was hard to pay attention because he never knew what he was talking about, and if you asked a question, he would go into some long and elaborate explanation that never even answered your initial question. Quizzes every single Friday which sucked, and homework due every once in a while that were very hard to get 100%s on. You have to have MINItab (only can use on PC) so make friends in the class so you can do it together.

His homework grader is ridiculous making it almost impossible to get a good grade on homework even if you spent a long time working on it making it quality work. He seems to spend way to much time teaching simple concepts and then realized he is behind and then crams several complex concepts into a short time period. This is not the case all the time, but a lot of the time it is. And it doesn\'t help that his office is usually crammed with a whole bunch of students during his office hours because nobody understands the shit he is trying to get across to us. This makes it a breeze to take notes, and a lot of the examples he gives in class show up on the 2 midterms and the final *Wink wink* He also gives weekly quizzes that are not too difficult if you just study your notes for the week the night before, and they only count for 20% of your grade. Also, he assigns homework problems from the book but doesn\'t collect them. So, if you need a teacher that makes you turn the HW in because you aren\'t disciplined enough to do it yourself then that is the only reason I\'d suggest another teacher, otherwise take Hahlbeck because he will prepare you well for Calc 3. Instead of collecting homework Clint hands out homework quizes on fridays, two of the questions often came from or were very similar to those in the HW/book and one on the overall concept. He tended to ask all students to ask any homework questions in his office hours, which I thought was better because he was able to focus on covering the material better....   Cool prof. He is smart, but has some trouble getting information across at times. I could of gotten a much higher grade if i did the hw. DO THE HW. I would recommend Hahlbeck to anyone.

Clint is a funny guy and is easy to pay attention to. He wants class participation so if there is at least one kid in class who is willing to raise their hand and say the wrong answer all the time (that was me) then the rest just have to pay attention. If you have questions he stops the lecture and answers them thoroughly. He lectures slowly and writes his notes in a way that is easy to follow even without the lecture (which is great for studying). He assigns homework but it is not due, however, I strongly recommend that you do the problems. I did them on scratch paper and only did the odd ones that don't repeat concepts. I didn't take nearly as long as real homework and I would say that it was very helpful. The take home quizzes are nice and really help if you study them for the midterms and final. He gets excited sometimes about some things that he teaches which is pretty amusing. Overall he is a great guy and a fantastic teacher. He made trigonometry easy and rewarding.

Hahlbeck is a really good guy. I took this class at 7 am 4 days a week which means I was either sleeping in his class or sleeping in my bed. From what I do remember, he explains problems thoroughly and slowly and will stop and explain whenever someone needs help understanding something he is teaching. There is daily assigned homework but he does not require you to turn it in. Every weekend he would put a 3 question homework quiz for you to turn in on Monday. The midterms and final are each 10 questions, with each question being weighted differently. For example, more difficult problems and problems that required more work were worth more points. Good math teacher overall. I would have gotten a better grade if it were not at this time.

He was a good teacher. I had a 7am class with him and i was always tired. So i dont blame him for my lousy grade. He did a good job explaining the material i just didnt do the recommended hw. He is pretty chill and layed back. He gave us take home quizes every friday. The midterms werent too bad and the final was a bit hard. He was always available to help in office hours. I would recomend him if you were interesetd in a chill teacher. I know that i can not take him again cuz i need someone who will push me harder and be more strict.

hes pretty cool. he graduated from cal poly spring '07 so hes very young. he assigns homework, but its not due. its just a recomendation to help on the tests. almost every friday he gave us a "quiz": 3 questions from the stuff we had learned that week, 30 points total. you got to take it home and use any notes you had. he just asked that we worked on it alone. we had 2 midterms and a final. if the final was better then one of the midterms then he counted it twice in place of the lower midterm. the last day of class before thanksgiving, since people dont normally show up, he gave us an extra credit oppurtunity and gave us a fatherly talk about being thankful. the only thing that kind of bugged me about him was in lectures he didnt really specify what was important, like key equations. he did a lot of proofs and not many examples. other then that hes rad. his mannerism's and voice are kind of like a young rocky balboa that went to school instead of getting his brain matter mingled by Apollo
