This class is a joke. Karen is out of touch with architecture today. She has a narrow conception of what she believes architecture should be expresses her desire for everyone to produce what she wants. She doesn't know the difference between a glossy magazine image and real architecture. Early in the 1st quarter someone had a sun peg diagram on their desk. She picked it up, threw it, and said that she never wanted to see another one of those again in her classroom. WTF? Are you kidding me? She also requires nearly nothing. On most days, about half of the class shows up for studio. When Lucas's studio is busting their asses our studio is empty. She requires so little that it's easy to produce the requirements making it easy to slack off and waste the year. I have no idea how she maintains this mystique of a good professor. Oh... And her favorite student's building could not be built and she doesn't care or know that the design is ridiculous. She definetly has favorites. The favorites in the class will get all of the good critiquers when critiques role around. I wish I had gotten someone else. Anyone else. Reich, Lucas, Stannard, DiSanto, Williams. Anyone else would have inspired me more. Not to mention that she never wipes that evil scowl off her face. Even when she likes what you are doing, she talks down to you so much that it seems like you are wasting your time. It kills inspiration. Most students in her class this year are dissappointed. Some blame themselves because they didn't motivate themselves. She let's you do whatever you want and asks for little. Unfortunately the teachers who ask for more get more out of the students. | |
