This is the worst teacher to ever come to the cal poly campus. As an engineer i am faced with some difficult teachers and many different teaching styles but never have i seen a teacher that doesnt care about students and the grades they get more then this lady. I hope she never gets tenure and I hope one day very soon she is fired so Cal Poly students no longer have to go through their math classes not understanding the material.

The second I saw this name as the only section left to take MATH 143 in, I crapped my pants. She should not be teaching math. period. On the first midterm, the class average was 50. No one understood what the hell they were doing (minus like, one person in the class.) So on the second midterm, she made our tests take-home in order to save our grades. The average was like a 85.. And on the final, it was split in-class and take-home. The take-home portion was a joke - she does not know how to work anything with computers at all. She has an obnoxious voice, and her bitchy attitude towards teaching students doesn't help either.

Velasquez is a very confusing teacher, many times nobody in class knew what she was talking about. She is condescending and has laughed at several students when they asked questions in class. She is very intelligent and knows the material very well but gets frustrated at the students when no one gets it. She has pop quizzes all the time and assigns a lot of homework.

Do not take Velasquez for math. She doesn't explain anything and expects you to just go home and figure it out on your own. In her office hours she acts bored and reluctant to even BE THERE!! I thought that was the teacher's job?? Unless you already know Linear Analyis, do not take her. It will be a quarter of hell.

This teacher is horrible. I had to take her because all the sections were full and they added her to the staff 1 week before classes started. This is her first time teaching anything above pre-calc and she barely teaches, and expects you to do everything on your own. She assigned 30 homework problems for a very small section for no reason. She does not understand how to convey the material to students and when a student asks a question or thinks she might have messed up on a solution on the board, she starts arguing and defending herself as if the question was attacking her as a person. I was there to learn and can honestly tell you that I would have been much better off learning the material at home and never going to class. She learned math in Columbia and has notation all backwards and is very hard to understand. I got an A in 142 and might have to take this class again thanks to Elena. Do not get this teacher, you will regret it!!
