This dude was really cool. He has a very calming voice, and knows his statistics very well. He was very sharply dressed every morning and always smiled. He's the kind of teacher that you want to shake hands with at the end of class thanking him for his time. It's also one of those classes you cannot miss, unless you are able to learn on your own well. All these reviews are pretty spot on, but I also recommend that you sit close to the front of the classroom and make friends with the people around you. Get their contact info, and have study sessions together. This was the very first class I ever took at Cal Poly and so far he's been the most informative and competent teacher I've had thus far.

Sklar was a good teacher. I didn't really like his class, or him for that matter, but he really does his best to convey the material. Her provides plenty of examples and explains everything very clearly. But warning, he is a VERY stingy grader. So be careful on exams. He is very helpful during class and during office hours. He definitely was not have favorite stats teacher, but I recommend him.

I had this class at 8 am 4 days a week, and I was very surprised by how relatively painless it was. Stats is boring, but Mr. Sklar kept it pretty light. I was impressed that every morning - despite the fact that he has young kids - he was far more alert and chipper than I was, and his hair was always perfectly gelled. As for the class, there were 3 midterms, homework assignments every week, activities in class, and the final. You get 10 points for doing all the homework problems, and another 20 for doing selected ones right. The midterms are really straight forward, and while he is very generous in giving partial credit, he also takes it if you don't have your wording perfect. The class activities are basically just credit for attendance, but on one of those random extra-days-to-make-up-for-a-holiday we got up to 20 points extra homework points for doing the activity, which was really nice. Overall, Mr. Sklar was a good but strict teacher who made a boring subject tolerable at 8am.

I love Prof. Sklar! His notes are great and his lecture is so easy to follow and understand. He made me really enjoy this class. The homeworks were challenging at times, and he did grade them, but they counted for very little of the overall grade. For his tests, all I did was make my cheat sheets and that's all I had to do for studying and I made an 85 on the first test, a 78 on the second, a 86 on the third, and obviously did well enough on the final to get a B in the class. Great teacher! Will help you UNDERSTAND Statistics

Dr. Sklar was a good stats teacher. He was way into the material and really awake and ready to go each morning. His midterms were fair but his final was difficult. Lot's of work if you want to do well. Not very good in office hours.

Professor Sklar is a good teacher, but he goes super fast through all the material, so skipping class isn't an option. 3 midterms, 1 final (worth 30 percent!). His grading is super strict, if you dont have the exact right answer, you're gonna get docked points. I had a difficult time trying to talk to him during office hours, he just kept telling me to check the solutions online, not how to actually do the problem the right way. But he does know his stuff, and gives a curve at the end.

Sklar is a reasonable teacher. I think we had 3 midterms and a final. Homework was around 15%, and worksheets (once a week) 10%. My percentages might be a little off. Homework load is small, and midterms and final are all reasonable. He can be nit picky, but I think most stat teachers are. Hyped up everyday so makes a boring subject pretty bearable. I definitely think he helps you out at the end if you participated, because I felt I did really bad on the final yet ended with a higher grade than I did coming in. Solid teacher, I would recommend him. Way better than my stat 252 teacher now.

Sklar was a good teacher, pretty boring and way too hyped up on caffeine. I had the 8am class every Monday through Thursday, so I hated going. He doesn\'t require you to go to the class, but sometimes he gives out class handouts and you turn them in at the end for participation and homework points. Not too tough of a class, took AP in high school so I barely studied for any of it ever except for about an hour for homework each week and an hour for each midterm. 3 midterms, 1 final. Final is a lot tougher than the midterms. The tests are basically your whole grade so don\'t screw up on them like I did the first one. Could have gotten an A if the first midterm wasn\'t as bad. I liked that he made his own notebook of all his powerpoints so you didn\'t need to take any extra notes.

Professor Sklar LOVES Statistics. I had a morning class, and as long he has his mug of Starbucks, he is all pumped and ready to go. You have to buy his course notes, but they contain the lecture slides that have problems with some of his clever \"Sklarbucks\" puns written inside. There are activities that you do in class to check attendance which go into the Homework grade. There are three midterms and a final. Professor Sklar is very laid back and is there during Office Hours and as long as you have a decent excuse, he\'ll let you turn in homework until the end of the day.

I don\'t know what it is, but Sklar seems to struggle teaching 419 compared to other courses I\'ve had with him. His style is the same in all the courses I\'ve had with him, and normally that works out fine. But for some reason that style doesn\'t make 419 material very clear or interesting. Though I think multivariate is some of the most useful stats to take, Sklar makes it seem the most muddled.

You better be just as jacked up on coffee as his is during class otherwise you will be falling asleep. He\'s a cool guy and good teacher but stats is not fun. I don\'t know other teachers so I wouldn\'t say not to take him, but I think he\'s just an typical college teacher. His tests are tough, his lectures get dry, and the material isn\'t very easy to get whats going on. But he is cool, and smart so he\'s got that going for him

Professor Sklar was an awesome teacher. He teaches at a good rate and makes sure his students understand the material well. Also, his notes are very helpful and comprehensive which become very useful for the midterms and final. He sure loves his coffee which makes him extra enthusiastic during class, so he creates a easygoing atmosphere when he lectures. I would definitely take his class if you want to learn STATS well and have a nice, understanding professor.

Dr. Sklar was awesome. I thought going into Statistics that it would have been one of my harder classes for that quarter, but it ended up being decently easy because of how good of a teacher he is. All his notes are on slides that he gives you and then he goes over them and does plenty of examples on the board during class. He is super friendly and always answers questions. There are 3 midterms, they are pretty hard and he is a strict grader so make sure you write out everything exactly for his problems (he lets you use a cheat sheet which helps a lot). He is a very generous in curving too. Honestly, if your going to take stats take him. I\'d never taken stats before and got an A thanks to Dr. Sklar.

He is not the saint that Polyratings makes him out to be. He is a very nice guy and a very clear lecturer. But stats is so boring! I had him in the morning and it was easy to go blank and not pay attention. If you have him in the morning, you better get some coffee. He is a stickler of a grader. I thought this class was harder than it should have been. Sklar teaches at a fast pace and its hard to keep up cuz there\'s so much material.

Dr. Sklar is awesome. I would highly recommend him! I have heard a lot of bad things about some stats teacher but Dr. Sklar is a really good professor. He is always at office hours which are very helpful and he is very good at explaining things that are unclear in class. He also has extra office hours sometimes before exams. I think he truly cares about how his students do in his class. He gives you the exact type of problems that you will need to know for the exams. There are 3 exams and 1 final. 10% homework. 20% each midterm and 30% final. I would highly recommend taking Sklar he is one of the best professors I have had at Cal Poly.

Professor Sklar is an awesome teacher!!! I was nervous taking stats 252 because it had been at least 2 years since I had taken stat 251, but he is very good at clearing questions during class. Also go to his office hours, he is great at explaining things. I highly recommend him especially if math doesn't come natural.

Dr. Sklar is a nice guy and a good teacher. He is well organized and willing to help during lecture and office hours. Additionally, he provides you with daily lecture notes/slides. So, you do not have to read the book, but you do need it for homework. The class is broken down into three midterms (20% each), a cumulative final (25%), weekly homework and weekly lab assignments. The homework/lab/in-class assignments are 15% of your grade. I highly recommend him for STATS 252.

dr. sklar was really cool, great teacher and presented class notes everyday that were very clear and easy to understand. He throws in some extra credit on random days and really cares about his students and curves some of the midterms. sklar is legit take him

Sklar is a great teacher, and he is really helpful during office hours. He teaches the material well and is really cute and funny at the same time. Mostly, just because you get a cheat sheet during the exam, doesn't mean you shouldn't study. I made that mistake. His exams don't really follow the homework 100%- he'll throw in a few random problems that appear to have little to do with what we did in class but are really just a complex representation of every formula and problem we did- in one giant problem. His final wooped my butt and I studied forever. He curves in the end though. I really recommend him though, he is a really good teacher, just tough.

sklar is pretty dope. He gives you lecture notes everyday that are straightforeward he has 3 midterms and a final. homework is like 10%(give away) or soemthing. Basically a mellow guy and the midterms are easy. He will throw some extra credit one a couple rare days. You can buy the book to do hw or practice problems, but you don't need the book for material. I was stoked to get an A- bc i got an 80,86,84 on the midterms

Sklar is a pretty good teacher. He can present the information clearly but the subject matter was pretty hard for me. When you take the class make sure you don't fall behind because it will kick your ass when it comes to test time. His first test is the easiest. The 2nd and 3rd will be substantially harder.

Sklar is incredibly upbeat and into his subject. He had so much energy it was easy to pay attention to his lectures. He handed out copies of his powerpoint slides everyday so I just took some notes on those. We did a lot of examples as a class on the board, but I wish we got to work together with our classmates more. It was a little too lecture oriented for a math class I thought. There was a homework assignment each week. His tests got harder as the quarter went on, but he is an INCREDIBLY EASY GRADER. Wrong answers will be like -1/2 a point and such. There were three midterms and a cumulative final, and he reviewed before each one. He lets you use a page for notes, but no examples :( Overall it was a pretty easy class if you put in the time and payed attention in class.

this professor explained the material very well and his slide show notes were very helpful. his exams are a little difficult, but they're straightforward. just study his notes and review problems in his notes. i didn't expect to get an A, but after paying attention in class and studying a little every night, i got the material. theres something about the way he explains things that makes you get it. now i'm taking Rein and i'm having so much trouble. He explains things PERFECTLY! his slides are right to the point and he gives you study guides and a practice exmans which clearly reflect what is on his tests. This is one of the most failed classes at Poly- but not with this teacher. No matter if its an 8am class or a night class..im telling you TAKE THIS GUY. AMAZING says it all. Professor Sklar was awesome! I might minor in stats because of him and carlton, seriously. sklar explains everything really well and is willing to go over it and over till you understand. and if your scared of asking questions in class, he's always at his office hours and is willing to stay longer if you need it. even tho my grade didnt end up being what i wanted, that was my fault, but he worked with me on it to get the best grade i could get. he's also great about giving advice about anything! i didnt know what to do about my roommate situation and his advice saved me. take him if you can get him!!!
