ENGL 145 Freshman Grade Earned: C General Ed 8:17 pm, Aug 12, 2010 |
She is REALLY nice...but her grading is REALLY harsh. I worked harder in this class than any of my others during the quarter and got a C+. Class felt pretty useless, I don\'t feel like we did very much in class and she liked to keep us there the full 2 hours when we could have easily been done in one. Take Ashley if you have to, like I said she is really nice, but be prepared to work hard on your essays.

She is a cool teacher, always happy. I think she grades pretty hard. Its hard to satisfy her! I dont think I learned much in her class. I think I learned more in my English 102 class!

It\'s hard to say anything negative about Mrs. Ashley. She is pretty cool and really wants to help her students out whenever possible. There are only 3 essays plus one in class essay (final). It\'s not a hard class if you just put in a little effort. Also revise your essays! You get a chance to revise every paper for a whole new grade!

ENGL 145 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 1:29 pm, Jan 13, 2010 |
She is a good teacher, the only problem is that I am not very good at English/writing essays, which made this class a bit tough. She grades fairly, we had easy homework assignments and had to read through two english books. The problem I found is that not having a bare bone structure to form an argumentative essay threw me off. I am used to having a structure for essays and I feel having such helps me articulate and present my evidence and ideas much more clearly. Overall a good teacher, but if you like having a structure to your writing you may find this class a bit more difficult.

Professor Ashley was the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly. I am a math major...so I was dreading English, but Mrs. Ashley is such a good professor that I did not mind the class too much. Her lectures are great. She likes to focus on very modern problems and materials. She even incorporates a lot of video documentaries to present common issues. Her grading is fair and she has a moderate amount of work required. I got an A while taking 20 units so anyone who tries could at least get a B. There is a long research paper and well as three other essays, but it is managable, you just have to trudge through it. I strongly recommend her!

Ashley is a great professor. She's upbeat, easy to get along with and is able to connect with her students. The work load for the class is pretty light and she seemed to be a pretty fair grader as well. Watch out for the research paper at the end of the quarter; its worth 35% of the total grade and can either make or break you. Oh, and she lets you out REALLY early sometimes....like an hour and a half early.

Professor Ashley is awesome. Very nice. Very friendly. Very straightforward. Very Fair. There was one midterm, and our final was a 10 page research paper on a topic of your choice. There were a few other shorter assignments along the way as well, like evaluating passages out of our textbook, and 2 other short papers. I enjoyed her class because she encourages you to write with your voice. She really pushed us to think outside of the "five-paragraph essay" structure that has been crammed into all our heads. I would DEFINITELY recommend taking her for this class. There is lots of good class discussion and...she lets you out early much of the time!

I really like this teacher. She was so nice and made writing a lot more fun for me. Her workload is not hard at all. We wrote 3-4 essays in her class and read one book. For our final, we wrote an easy in-class essay about the book. I would definitely recommend this teacher to any ENGL 134 student.

First I have to say, I SUCKED at writing forever and even took English 102(remediation). I ended up with a B+ after great effort. Ask her for help on your essays because she'll tell you what is needed for a better grade! She cut lots of readings for us and allowed us to revise 3/4 essays instead of just 2. Her in class assignments don't have much of a purpose I think. However, she lets you out of class early alot. Overall I learned alot about writing essays. TAKE HER!

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: N/A Required (Major) 4:58 pm, Nov 8, 2006 |
I love English, but Professor Ashley was a really bad professor. I went into the class hoping to learn tons of new information. All I learned is that high school English improved my writing abilities more than university English did. Professor Ashley never gave you any real feed back, all she would write on my paper was "yes," "exactly," or "no." This class made me feel like I was regressing in my writing abilites. I don't know what it will be like exactly for you but I feel like I am wasting my time. If you want a teacher who giggles all the time pick Professor Ashley.

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: N/A General Ed 12:28 pm, Aug 19, 2006 |
she is a nice teacher and all but you only have 2 main essays to trun in and you don't really do anything in lecture to prepare you for the essay. she leads you to believe that the essays are about whatever you want and how structure them as you so please but when she turns back the essays she has a rubrick! and going to office hours didn't really help

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: B General Ed 5:45 pm, Apr 25, 2006 |
She was great, her class was fun and entertaining. we had daily reading and wrote about it in a journal, it only took about 10min. she grades tough on essays but she'll help you if you ask, and she has us do peer review a few times before you turn in your work, and there is no final. i would definatly take another class from her!

Shes pretty nice when it comes down to it. Class is made up of a few essays that comprise most of grade. day to day work is pointless and interesting. shes a tough grader but if you go to the office hours you wont get less than a "b"

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: A General Ed 10:40 am, Feb 24, 2006 |
Ashley was the best professor I had all of first year. She has a great sense of humor, and loves to point out the subtle things in life. She tends to analyze students now and then, but its only in hopes of getting to know you better. She is one of those "people" persons, she cares for her students, and encourages you to do your best along the way. Never a dull moment, Ashley is the English Professor to take. I wouldn't settle for anything less. Oh, and she's from here, lol, she knows the place well and has some nifty stories. :-) -RL

There was a lot of home work in this class, but it will not make-or-break you by any means. The class was basically based on three essays, all of which were relatively easy and she was always more than happy to help you with any problems you were having with the topic.

She is a really sweet lady and is really excited about teaching. There are 3 Papers that your grade is based on and you are guaranteed at least a B if you discuss.

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: A General Ed 11:12 am, Dec 15, 2005 |
Instructor Ashley is such a great English teacher. She is young and bases her class on observation and relating English to everyday life. You write 4 essays, which aren't bad at all. The topics are interesting and I had an easy time writing all of them. I would recommend J. Ashley for English 134. There is no final, you watch a movie during dead week, and she is a great teacher!

very nice lady, makes the class easy cause it's all about observation. You watch American Beauty and write essays about it. Only problem is its almost impossible to get an a on the essay but an a in the class is easy.

ENGL 145 Sophomore Grade Earned: B General Ed 11:59 pm, Mar 26, 2005 |
This class was great. I have never been a fan of English so I was not looking forward to this class at all, however, I really enjoyed it. There were 3 papers; two 3-page rhetorical essays, and a 10-12 page research paper. The class was fairly easy, Professor Ashley is a very fair grader. She was also very nice and friendly. I would recommend taking Engl 145 from her.

ENGL 134 Freshman Grade Earned: B General Ed 3:00 pm, Feb 13, 2005 |
She is incredibly cheerful and excited everyday. She enjoys teaching english and spreads that enjoyment to others. Our class was based on observation and seeing deeper. This great way to teach english, because it brings relativity and real life writting toward class. The essays and writting for class are very interesting. There is a limited about of long reading.. mostly only daily short passages with personal thoughts. I enjoy going to English 134 because of Prof. Ashley.
