ME 302 Junior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 2:17 pm, Nov 17, 2010 Report Evaluation |
Kean is one of the best professors I\'ve had at Cal Poly. He genuinely cares that you learn the material and will do everything to make you understand. Class notes are extremely straightforward and easy to follow, and the hw is optional. That being said, DO THE HOMEWORK. Tests are just like the problems he assigns and if you\'re prepared you should have no problem getting an A. Would take again, for any class that he teaches.

Prof Kean is one of the greatest teachers in the ME department. This is the third class I have had him for and am taking another one with him next quarter. He is very clear with the material that is presented and makes sure the students understand what is being lectured on. His office hours are great and makes sure to work with you so you understand. His tests are relatively straight forward with no big curveballs. If you do the homework and pay attention in class you should do fine. I highly recommend you take andrew if you have the chance he is a great guy all around!!!

He is a really cool guy. Just do your work like you are supposed to, and everything will be good. Seriously one of the best professors I have ever had. He can be tough, but he excepts a lot from you.

ME 440 5th Year Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 5:17 pm, Feb 9, 2008 Report Evaluation |
It is nice to have a teacher that actually tries to be a good teacher. It was evident that he gives his lectures a lot of thought and effort, and that makes it easier for a student give some effort. I thought he was a great lecturer, and I loved how he would review background info before we really got into the subjects. I thought that the class would be horrible, but Kean is an awesome teacher and I definately recommend taking him for anything.

Like what the other reviewer said below, 440 combines fluids, thermo, and heat transfer (with a dash of engineering economics). For those who like solid mechanics, this course can be a drag, but Kean made the class straightforward. I didn't particularly focus on this class, hence the B+. Although I was looking forward to taking Pascual for 440, Kean turned out to be a nice guy and a good professor.

Kean, aside from being an awesome guy is a great teacher. I do not particularly like thermo, fluids, or heat transfer and 440 combines all three together. That said, Kean made it a comfortable transition and I even liked it a bit. His lone midterm and final were straight forward and graded fairly. In lab, his project was practical and helpful. I got a C because I'm a slacker, but Kean is good. Take him.

ME 302 Junior Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 4:49 pm, Jun 26, 2007 Report Evaluation |
Kean was a very enthusiastic teacher and always helpful at office hours. Grading was pretty strate forward: 10 for homework, 2 midterms and a final. All of the Problems on the final were very similar to those in the homework, which doesn't mean they were easy, but there were never any suprises if you did the hw. All around great teacher.

One of the better professors I have had at Cal Poly. If youve been here as long as me you know that too many profs dont give a flying fuck about you or what they are teaching. Kean is not one of those profs. He teaches and he cares about his students. I hate ME, but I actually liked this class. TAKE HIM IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

Prof Kean is a smart dude. He is organized and clear in his lectures, the two midterms were not to bad looking back on them however, the first one is difficult because you dont know what to expect. The final this quarter was very difficult, but he does curve based on the classes average. Overall I would recommend him for thermo.

Kean is a good solid instructor. He's still in his initial professorship career, and is still acquiring teaching skills, but his lectures are pretty clear and interesting. You can prettty much learn most of the material in lecture and use the book as a reference or bed time reading. :) I enjoyed taking thermo with Kean, and would definetely reccomend him for thermo-related classes.

ME 302 Junior Grade Earned: C Required (Major) 7:26 pm, Jan 16, 2006 Report Evaluation |
First of all Kean was very realistic and understanding about homework. The final 3 assignments of the quarter he gave us two weeks to complete, and the last one he made it credit for turning it in. He does devote a full lecture period to the Midterms usually the following day or so after taking it, which is nice because you get the feedback on what you did wrong while the material is still fresh in your mind. Lastly, he has a sense of humor and is very personable; he even showed us one of his old midterms which he F'd up on when he took thermo in college... how cool! The department definitely needs more professors like Kean. If you can, take Kean.

Kean is a great proffesor (one of my favorite). He is always avaliable to help you out during office hours or any time hes in his office. He is a hard grader and sets the curve (if any) to a mid C. The class had weekly homework assignmnets, two midterms and a final. Each midterm and the final have 30% conceptual questions (no book) and 70% problems (open book) The averages on the tests were about a 63%. He is very set on the grade he gives you but grades everyones test equally. He also graded across all three sections that he was teaching. If you want an A you have to bust your ass, because he doesnt hand them out for free. He will not drop a test or weigh them differently, so make sure that you do well on all of them.

Giiiz Dude (comment below), you should get some cheese to go with your whine... It's not like we're all going to skool just to get'em stupid grades.. I betcha you'll decide on a job just for the money you can score out of it... There's more to life than just grades, money and Blob... Maybe you should question why are you goin' to skool.

ME 341 Junior Grade Earned: C Required (Major) 9:38 am, Jul 28, 2005 Report Evaluation |
If you want to learn the material this is a great guy. If you want a good grade this is not the guy I think he grades really hard, and does not like to argue about the grade he gives you I had a friend that got a 79.9%(there was no curve by the way) in the class and got a C+ when he went in he found a problem with the grading he had gotten a problem wrong that was right and hen the teacher said I'm happy you know your stuff but I'm not changing your grade and that is final. So this guy should have had an 80.1 and a B- but the guy would not give it to him what a D---bag. As for me I got a C+ but I really must say I learned a lot in this class this guy is so anal that hell force you to read the book and learn everything. Great teacher when it comes to teaching biggest D--- when it comes to grading.

I had prof. Kean for both ME 302 and 341. His teaching style and my learning style conflict a bit, since he frequently emphasizes calculus derivations in class rather than applications of the formula and examples. When you take into account that both of these are "weeder" engineering classes, he wasn't that bad. Expect to have each midterm take the whole hour, and the final the full 3 hours. He assigns weekly homework out of the text.

He made a good effort at trying to teach the material. if you go to class you will learn most of the material. the exams were fair. i would recommend taking him for any class. a really nice professor to have.

Kean is a very good teacher with a great understanding of his students. I had to miss a week of class and he had no problem with it. his tests are open book so defineitely know where all the equations and charts are in you book. He also like to give a number of small short answer questions at the begining of each test so I would advise you to atleast skim the reading before each test.

Professor Kean rocks. He's very fair on all of his tests and wants his students to do well. Extremely helpful in office hours and the homework prepares you well for his tests. He's still new and he asks for a lot of input which is great. Start taking classes with him before word gets out about how great a teacher he is because when the word spreads the spots in his classes will fill up fast.

I cannot think of a good reason not to take Kean. All of his tests were open book! which is basically all you can friggin ask for. The class consisted of a weekly homework assignment, 2 midterms, and a final. Kean was in his office a lot, and helped me sometimes after office hours. Take Kean.

Prof. Kean just got out of grad school at UC Berkeley. He's a good prof who is still trying to find his teaching style I assume. Right now he is your "textbook ME prof," basically wanting all the i's dotted and the t's crossed. Make sure you list assumptions and draw system boundaries on tests, he counts about half a problem on the setup of it. Like any prof he has his strengths and weaknesses in the subject, but he presents info very straightforward and organized, although rather boring somtimes (then again, thermo isnt that stimulating). Id give him a few quarters to get comfortable and into the swing of things and I wouldnt doubt that he becomes a solid 'B' grade prof on this site.
