Professor Olsen is an amazing professor. He knows what he's talking and is always available during office hours. He explains concepts clearly and makes it obvious what to expect on the quizzes. He's extremely knowledgeable on the subject and grades reasonably. Take him if you can.

Dr. Olsen is a really really nice guy. He cares about his students. I did have difficulty with the in class material at times but if you meet him during office hours he explains things clearly. I can't help but like this guy. Meet with him one on one and you will be fine.

Professor Olsen was a horrible teacher. He didn't have the textbooks sent to the bookstore and waited until week 7 to tell us to order them online. He then assigned homework out of the textbook that half of us obviously couldn't do because we didn't have the book yet. He seemed very unprepared for each class, as if he was winging it every day. He just used the slides that came with the book and read them to us. He gave off the vibe that he didn't care about this class at all because it's an introductory course. He would never explain how to do the homework assignments, he would just assign them to us and let us figure it out on our own. After we turned in the homework he would go over it but he hardly knew how to solve the problems himself. He also docks you points if you don't pick up your graded homework in class. One day I wasn't aware that there was homework to pick up so I lost 3 points. He doesn't give a study guide, he plays a game called "what's on the exam" where students ask if somethings going to be on the test and he just says yes or no. If not a lot of people have questions about what is going to be on it, you're basically in the dark. Which is my situation right now as I study for the final exam.

I cant even explain how terrible this guy is. He doesnt explain any of the homework, likely because he doesnt know how to do it himself. He is asked questions in class and can never answer them. He has to go back to his office and send out an answer hours later in an email. He sends out like 20 emails per week, none of which relate to anything anyone cares about. He cant teach, he cant explain questions, and he has no idea whats going on. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.

ridiculously pompous on material. It's like look guy, half of us are in here just to graduate not to gain a career. Like one of those bible thumpers who PUSHES their lifestyle onto you. Copious amounts of HW, test that takes up the full 2 hours, take home final, sweet, but not worth the effort that goes into a class that most of everyone will reflect back on and wish they had those 4 hours of death each week back in their youth. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE

Olsen is one of the worst professors i have ever had at poly. He is a nice guy and that is about it. He has absolutely no idea how to teach a class and he gives us hw assignments and just expects us to figure out how to do them without any guidance in class and very vague hw directions to begin with. I would avoid taking his class it would help save you a lot of frustration

Olsen is a good guy, just not a great teacher AT ALL - he is very confusing and students call him out on not knowing his subject matter on several occasions. His tests are also very confusing, which causes an uproar within the class every time tests are handed back.... beware...

Good subject matter to know if you want to get anywhere in the manufacturing field. Class can be a bit hard due to the ideas of Lean Thinking. But just study the key ideas and how to apply them, then you should do fine. The class can be hard calculating efficiencies and quality control, but take it with a grain of salt, form study groups, keep up on the reading, i don't see why you couldn't pass with a B or higher. I was just stuck with a crummy group for the group project, otherwise i would've had an A. All in all, not that bad. He's a good guy who is willing to help is students succeed and/or provide you with industry connections.

Great teacher. Lectures can be dry, but its really the material. He gives you what you need to know to prep for the tests. Very possible to do well with some work. A great helpful person to know, and an excellent industry contact to have on your side.

Dr. Olsen is great. He cares about how you feel about the course and what you are getting from it. The project was a bit lame, but all the lecture material was presented in a clear way. The tests are very fair if you study.

This class was alright. I think it is required for all IT students to take, so there is no getting around it. As a intro to Quality Assurance, we didnt really learn that much. Doesnt really prepare you for Barbers class (403). We did get to take a trip to NUMMI and watch cars get made which was pretty awesome. When he says participation points, he means it and that will screw your grade at the end, so suck up, its worth it with him. Grade is made up of quizzes and group projects. He grades the quizzes hard, so study. Projects are very time involved, but everyone does well on them. Hes a smart nice guy.

DR. Olsen is a great guy. His lectures aren't amazing, but the info is vital to real world success. He is more than willing to help you solve any difficulties you may have. Just lightly read the textbook before you go to class, take notes, participate, you'll get an A and have a much better time than just bitchin about the dry lectures. Your sucess depends on you, so don't be such a boner.

Olsen means well, but he just can't teach. His classes are the most boring things you have ever sat through. His activities and assignments are pointless, boring, and worthless. I have no idea why they hired this guy to teach upper division IT. The guy can barely spell, and he has his Phd? My money is not being well spent on classes like these.

Mr. Olsen would be a great MBA professor in theoretical approaches to business. Most questions were only answered using the book with little real-world buisness approaches. The case studies were to old with business proactices changing all the time. Grading was very subjective and did not fall in line with the IT hands on approach which is what is expected in the business world. It seamed class would be strectched to ensure we stayed the whole time even though it could end early since everything was covered.

This class was a complete waste of time. No new material was covered that had not been covered in other classes. Most of the material was out of date and most course material was a rip off from an RIT instructor's course from 2000. We ended up finishing part of the instructors research for his Ph.D which didn't even relate to the course description. Mr. Olsen needs to take a look at the course description and consult the intsructors that taught this couse previously. Then maybe students would pay attention in class instead of doing crossword puzzles to kill the time or simply not going to class or taking off early.
