ARCH 251 Sophomore Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 12:08 am, Sep 7, 2007 Report Evaluation |
Psycho crazy-eyed bitch. If you want to enjoy your major and not consider switching, take anyone else. Well, maybe except Guillermo. But seriously, she is nothing but bad news. Stay away...FAR away.

OK, first off, Laura ia a lovely person, and not as bad an instructer as some people make her out to be. In her defense, she has a very busy life: an active practice, young children, and a full courseload. I wish she would have been more available for crits, but I will say that she did give me some very helpful feedback (when I got it). She is honest about the fact that aesthetics matter in deisgn. Sure, form should follow function (obvious), but nobody wants to pay you to design an eyesore. She's both artistic and practical. It's a nice mix. Yeah, she's a little spazzy. So are most arch students. Whatev.

ARCH 241 Sophomore Grade Earned: N/A Required (Major) 9:57 am, Feb 10, 2007 Report Evaluation |
It's me, the same guy/girl who keeps writing about Joines. Well, I was hopped up on cocaine the last time I wrote a rating and made her out to seem better than she really is. On a one-to-one basis, she acts like she's from outer space or something and is annoyingly/confusingly/fuddingly difficult to work with. Anyway, I don't know why I bother to tell YOU about this stuff. I must be on methamphetamine.

ARCH 251 Sophomore Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 7:46 pm, Jan 23, 2007 Report Evaluation |
I made up the rating below because I really wanted to get in the class (sorry). Actually, MY LIES CAME TRUE. Laura was gone a lot and changed the project descriptions frequently. However, we did go on field trips around town and got to work with Guillermo's class. That was fun...? Oh, and she will break people's projects when no one is around (she is REALLY strong). She also made us teach her children's elementary school classes. That was hell. Overall, a bit lacking, but definitely not the worse you could do. For Christ's sake.

ARCH 251 Sophomore Grade Earned: C Required (Major) 6:19 pm, Aug 17, 2006 Report Evaluation |
I don't wanna waste my time here, so let me just say that this class will make you spend all day in the shops asking other professors for help the rest of your time trying to figure out what Laura is talking about (or where she is). My HS Poly buddy just signed up and I told him take Duerk or Lakeman or anyone else. For what it's worth, I advise you to avoid!

ARCH 106 Freshman Grade Earned: N/A Required (Support) 11:59 pm, Mar 24, 2005 Report Evaluation |
this chick is a damn idiot to be perfectly honest. she sounds like a stoner, she doesnt know her ass from her elbow with what shes talking about and shes not clear with anything. she makes you building three joints out of 2 pieces of wood, so if u mess up one, ure screwed! she does check roll but after that u can leave if you want, bottom line, your on your own the whole quarter cus she has no clue, dont take her!

ARCH 440 Graduate Student Grade Earned: N/A Elective 11:14 pm, Apr 10, 2004 Report Evaluation |
PROFESSOR JOINES is an extrememly bright ,if at times distracted educator- but of course this was true of most brilliant people who were racing ahead in their ideas- i believe its because words were found to be insufiecient for the pace she was trying to keep. it reminds me of a personality like zaha hadid who's ideas far outstrip her ability to express them verbally / Professor joines i observed needs the space to engage in more research based on her terms. i believe she will reward in return what is her true strength. that of pure vision and hope for our environment.

ARCH 106 Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 6:57 pm, Jan 4, 2004 Report Evaluation |
She really shouldn't have been teaching this class. The class started at 8:10am and she was late 9 times out of 10. On the field trip to the lumber yard, she was asking some of the guys in the class what types of wood were in front of her because she didn't know. I asked Bart (the guy in charge of the support shop) whenever I had a question, because asking Laura was a waste of my time. When our lamps were due, the class was able to convince her to make everything, but our lamps, extra credit. If you're looking for an easy A, take her, but if you are looking to learn something, take a different teacher.
