I'm not sure why this is an upper level class, but I must say I was not happy with the class or the professor. It felt like a painful review of low level psych and CD class's, plus too much group contact for my taste. Like many teachers, she seemed to confuse her opinions with fact. I

PSY 413 Senior Grade Earned: A Elective 9:52 pm, Jun 28, 2005 Report Evaluation |
I was really disappointed with this class AND the professor. The course is basically an overview of developmental psychology diguised as a 400-level upper division elective. There was so much useless information presented. Memorization skills are key to a good grade and you have to attend every class session in order to collect participation points (painful). The videos are old, out-dated, and often unrelated to class material. Even the written assignments are pointless. I really didn't learn anything of value and I'm sorry I had to waste so much time sitting indoors when I could have been lounging on Avila beach.

Lisa Sweatt was a good teacher. She presented the material clearly and always seemed organized. At times her presentation was a bit dry and wordy. She had lots of notes but they were all on the test so it is imporatant to copy everything down. It was her first time teaching this specific class (obviously not her first time at Poly) and so she may have a little refining to do. She is an easy grader and I am not even sure she read all of our papers. The class become more interesting toward the end when she brought in a pannel for discussion. She is a nice woman and encourages the class to particpate. I enjoyed her and the class for the most part.

Dr Sweatt is an awesome teacher. She is so smart and really knows her material. Lisa always encouraged class discussion, and it made the class go by way fast. Her lectures are a combination of material from the book combined with her own personal experience in the field. She even threw in a movie clip into most of her lectures which keept things fun. The fact that she taught class up to the week before giving birth to her daughter also really impressed me. Basically, if you have the chance to take this class I would really reccomend it. I learned so much and it is very applicable to everyday life- not one of those classes that you're just going to forget everything you learned after you take the final. The class consists of 3 tests and one 5-7 page paper. Tests were a combination of multiple choice and fill in the blank. The multiple choice was challenging, but if you do the review at the end of each chapter it helps. She grades fairly easy on the fill in the blank and gives partial credit if you are close. The paper is a critique of a child abuse prevention/intervention of your choice. It is not hard and I thought she wasn't too tough grading on it. Probably the best piece of advise I have for it is to find your intervention early even if you don't actually start working on the paper until the end of the quarter. That would have reduced alot of stress for me. Bottom line this class rocks and I would be stoked if we had more teachers like Dr. Sweatt at Cal Poly!

Outstanding teacher, and the material is a little depressing cause of the Child Abuse and Neglect, but she presents the material very clearly and the book in very easy to read. There are two midterms, a final, and a paper. All are managable. Recommend her entirely.

Dr. Sweatt is an awesome professor. She is really sweet and very approachable when you need help. Her first two exams were somewhat difficult. The multiple choice portion was the toughest for me but when it came to the essay part of the exam you get to show her that you are learning the material. The third exam is during dead week and it is the easiest of all the exams. I really recommend Dr. Sweatt!
