Dr. Wooten is by far the best teacher I've had. Hes been in the industry his entrie life so he knows and loves the material. He is always more than willing to help and his attitude makes you want to do well in the class. His tests can be hard. There all memorizing lists but go to class, everyday, take good notes and study and you'll be fine. Dr. Wooten is the best.

Dr. Wooten is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable professors on campus. He not only knows his material, but he loves his students and truly cares about their success in the course. He is always available in and outside of office hours if you need any extra help. The class is hard, but Wooten makes it fun and interesting. He is one of the best professors in the department!

no doubt this is a tough class, but wooten is a very good teacher, i would reccamend taking it as a junior or senior, i took it as a freshman and still did ok. But this is one of those classes i wish they would have told you not to take during your first qtr. He is a very nice man, just go to class, which sucks cause usually it is at 8:00 am but if you pay attention it is worth it, not only will you learn, but he is a funny guy and will get your day off to a good start. But i would reccament getting delmore for lab, i had a hard time with that and friends who had delmore said they got much more out of it. Also try to get the kill lab and you will also get a better understanding, that is usually on mon.

dr. wooten...a verrrry nice teacher. i would definately recommend him to anyone. he's a little quiet and sometimes could be hard to understand..but if you just move a little closer to the front of the class it's worth it. the tests are a little challenging..but if you GO TO CLASS and study the notes well then you will do fine..he also made it so that if you get an A on the final you got an A in the class and that was awesome. i have nothing negative to say about dr. wooten.

Great Professor. Meats class was a little 'yucky', but he made it managable with his light hearted personality. The lab final is way too hard though.

Like others have said, he is one of the best guys on staff. Study for the tests and you'll do good, they are all from the notes. He'll never turn down an opertunity to help and I think even Osama would like this guy.

ASCI 290 5th Year Senior Grade Earned: Credit Elective 8:59 pm, Nov 3, 2004 Report Evaluation |
Rudy Wooten is probably the most knowledgeable, and personable, meats professor Cal Poly has had for YEARS. His style of teaching a difficult subject (Meats Enterprise) is to explain, and show how to do something, then let the student work at it. If you make a mistake, we make it into hamburger. No problem. He good naturedly insults everyone equally, without offense. Rudy is not only a great teacher, but a truly fine, caring person.

Dr. Wooten is the best teacher I have had at Cal Poly. He is very understanding and he always answers your questions. He does speak soft, so sit towards the front and this is the only 7am class that I have enjoyed and stayed awake for. His sense of humor keeps class fun too.

ASCI 211 Senior Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 8:12 pm, Jul 27, 2004 Report Evaluation |
I had him for meats lab and it was a realllly good decision. In ASCI you can either take him or Delmore for lab, no disrespect to Delmore but take Wooten. Delmore takes this class way more seriously and will quiz you harder. Wooten seems to have a more laid back approach to the whole class. Because of this you might be tempted to skip lab, DON'T. Unless you can already recognized all the cuts of beef and the muscles and bones associated with them you will need to go to the lab. THE PICTURE AREN'T good enough. I went to every lab and second guessed myself on some of the cuts because some look so alike. But don't worry, if you just go to the lab, you don't need to study much at all. P.S. it also helps to know all the bones and muscles before hand. VS 223 is a good class to take before this one.

Dr.Wooten is a really nice guy. He is very knowledgeable about this subject, and can answer any and all questions you might have. I was dreading taking this class, but he really made his students feel comfortable with the subject matter, and didn't make people do anything they weren't comfortable doing. I definitely recommend Dr.Wooten.

Dr. Wooten is a good teacher and human being. His subtle humor makes class interesting and his quiet manner immediately puts you at ease (though I would recommend that you sit in the front of the room if your hearing isn't excellent, b/c he speaks softly). He tends to provide the info more with lecturing than with writing everything out on the board, so be sure to take notes on anything you think is noteworthy. He clearly present everything we need to know for the exams, so they are completely reasonable if you study for them by memorizing the notes. The exams aren't scantron, so flashcards and lists are helpful. If you go to his office hours, he's extremely willing to help and won't ever make you feel less-than-smart. In fact, he encourages us to perservere and often gives great advice on life. Meats harvest lab is one of the most interesting and definately the bloodiest class at Cal Poly. If you're squeamish, make sure you don't take the harvest lab. Here's a warning - the lab final is hard!

I took the slaughter lab, and I highly recommend it. I was really worried at first that I would be grossed out or traumatized, but it wasn't too bad. Since the "abbatoir" is USDA inspected, everything is professional, no ghettoness here. The animals are stunned properly and bled out, and you go through everything in the animal. The quizzes are easy, the final you need to study for, but you can only really study while you're in the lab. So when you're going over cuts of meat, PAY ATTENTION. Maybe get in the packing and sealing area so you can see the different variations between cuts of meat. Wooten is great though. He's a little hard to understand, especially if you can't hear well. I just made sure to sit in the front, and I heard fine. He's got a great sense of humor, and he likes when you participate.

Dr. Wooten is probably one of the sweetest professors that I have ever had at Cal Poly. He is so nice and funny with all of the stories that he has, it just really makes the class fun to go to. Take him for any class he teaches!!!

ASCI 211 Senior Grade Earned: A Required (Major) 3:15 pm, Apr 24, 2003 Report Evaluation |
Dr. Wooten is cool. He has funny stories and does a pretty good Baxter Black- like speech the last day. He presents all the material well and has plenty of real-world knowledge to accompany the lecture notes.

ASCI 231 Graduate Student Grade Earned: B Required (Major) 9:42 am, Mar 21, 2003 Report Evaluation |
Dr. Wooten provides a highly informational, organized classroom setting in which students can easily take notes. His tests come directly from his notes. He is easy going, funny at random moments, and non-judgemental of all students. His humbleness comes through, and he illustrates his lectures with many of his own very valuable personal experiences. I rate him excellent and and highly recommend him to fellow students.
