Awesome teacher. Wish he taught more. Very informative and great during office hours. Don't listen to other bashing evals here - they wouldn't know a great teacher if it hit them over the head with a podium.

this guy is a joke but super easy. look at his grading here: www.csc.calpoly.edu/~alipper/csc310/Grade%20verification.pdf As you can see, all you need to do is show up for class on the day something is do and you will get at least a B. Other than the weird looks he gives you and his fruityness, the class is a breeze.

READ THIS FIRST! Lipper is the best teacher in the department, and one of the best on campus. His material is useful and he's very knowledgeable about what he teaches. He really seems to want the best for his students and goes to great lengths to get us there. Students who rip on him are no-shows and stupid - consider the source before making your choice.

Lipper is awesome. He really cares that we get the material. He isn't buried in books all day - he's really out there fixing stuff and making it work. Highly recommended.

IF YOUR THINKING ABOUT TAKING LIPPER FOR ANY CLASS READ THIS: Al Lipper is an excellent professor, he keeps class very fun/intersting and has awsome activities. He is very nice, high energy and motivating. People who talk shit about him are stupid and must not go to class. He is the best teacher in the department. I would recommend him for any class.

Al Lipper is by far the best teacher for Computers for poets. He is very intellegent and makes class very fun. My friends had other teachers for this class and learned programming and other shit you will never use. Lipper teaches practical information about computers such as how they work, networks, antivirus/spyware removal techniques, etc. He is very nice and keeps class entertaining and lively.

I noticed most posts on Prof. Lipper were horrible and few in number, and I also noticed the posts came from people who neither attended class nor got to know the professor personally. That is so sad, because Lipper's been teaching for years, and a few awful evaluations does not statistically and adequately represent a person, good or bad. So here is my two cents: Prof. Lipper made such a difference in my career - if I had expereinced his teachings as an undergrad, I would have changed majors immediately. He's clear, concise, and geniunely cares about us. He's got an amazing comprehensive knowledge base (he not only answered questions to help me fix a fuel problem with my car but also explained nuclear energy... in the same class!). I liked having opportunities to learn a whole lot of things at once, like having to make robots from coat hangers and soda cans, and crushing cans with sledge hammers and dental floss. Having been through several classes and universities myself, I can honestly state he's in the top ten. I would recommend to anyone to go to the first class of any section to see which prof. suits your learning style.

Coursework was easy...if you want an easy grader/class, this is it. In fact, don't bother going to the class since the instructor is a distraction to the material. I heard this guy has a website as a [life coach]...now THAT'S funny.

NOTE: Al Lipper must have written his first rating himself. The only thing even remotely cool about this guy is his name Lipper. I was very disappointed to discover however, that Mr. Lipper doesn't chew tobacco. I had envisioned a man who lived his life with a huge dip fixed to both upper and lower gums at all times. On the first day of class my dreams of meeting the legendary Mr. Lipper were shattered when professor Al Lipper confessed that he had never tried "chew" and in fact never even tried a cigarette. From that point on this class was nothing but trouble. Al Lipper is a confused little man who will eat your children.

Al Lipper is another great teacher in the IT department. IT 150 was my first Industrial Technology course, and he really made me know that I wanted to be an IT major. He had an in depth knowledge about the subject matter and much beyond it. Some people were turned off by his enthusiasm but I found it refreshing change from some of my tenured teachers. Overall the class was pretty easy if your at all mechnically inclined. Some high school physics w/ mechanical advantage and other fairly basic concepts. Homework wasnt hard, but it was graded so you kinda have to do it. The projects were not easy if you wanted to do them well, but you could probably get by doing a half assed job. Its a 100 level class, so he isnt a very tough grader.
