This lady is a great teacher. She models exactly what she preaches. She doesn't give much homework, but her lesson plans are brutal. They are very long and very tedious. Attendance is very important to her as well as getting things in on time. I turned in a few assignments late and that is why I got a B. She doesn't really explain how to EXACTLY do an assignment, but leaves the assignment up in the air for individual creativity. She is completely wonderful in office hours. Her only downfall is that she is long winded. If you get her started on a subject or idea be prepared to sit there for at least 30 minutes. Besides that, she's a great professor and I would definitely take her and get to know her. Turn in everything on time and you will surely get an A.
Her quizzes are simple and easy if you read what is required. Participation is important and she expects punctuality. The lesson plans are the most time consuming part of the class. She expects them to be thorough. She does tend to ramble if you catch her in her office but most of what she has to say is very insightful.
Professor Davidman is a wonderful person and very caring. This class, however, was very frustrating at times because it was never quite clear what was expected. I recommend making sure everyone in the class is on the same page even if Dr. Davidman isn't so at least you all know what is going on. You will stay the full 3 hours each class meeting. You will spend most of your time working on one individual lesson plan and one group lesson plan. Make sure you listen to how she wants things formatted etc. because she likes things a certain way. Teaching lessons in a classroom, though, was the highlight of the course because the group lessons were so good and fun to teach. Good Luck!

This professor needs to retire!!! Her time is definately up! She is very unorganized and unwilling to clarify if you need help. Her assignments don't have a purpose and I often left her class feeling like it was a complete waste of time. She is a know it all that really doesn't know anything.
Dr. Davidman is a professor who is completely out of touch with what happens in real classrooms. I am a 2nd quarter student teacher, and I can honestly say I have not used any of the information from her. She never gets through her course syllabus because she can't stay on track. You will talk about the same things every class period and waste a lot of time doing meaningless elementary school activities. She is extremely nit-picky with assignments, but not on concepts that matter... just formatting, etc. She is extremely long-winded, but tends to confuse and frustrate more than she ever does clarify. She is a very kind person, but I feel my classes with her were the worst part of Cal Poly's teaching program.
This class was truly a frustrating, disapointing experience. To begin with her syllabus is like an abstract piece of art with all different fonts and colors. It is extemely hard to follow and she did not stick to it at all. She passed out several revisions a few weeks into the quarter and she regularly passed over assignmnets that were on the syllabus. The result is that you do not really know what to read or turn in for homework.
The individual lesson plan that you have to create is excessively detailed and irrelevant to any real lesson plan you would produce as a practicing teacher. Mine was 17 pages long to teach one lesson , not a unit, on Indians. She does grade the work you turn in but you rarely get full credit because of the nit picky manner that she grades in. You end up turning in everything twice if you want to improve your score.
I will say that Dr. Davidman does make her self very available if you need individual help outside of class. She will talk with you for hours if you let her. Overall this class was not helpful at all if the goal was to make you more prepared to be a teacher. The time we spent in the fourth grade class was great, but it did not make up for the hours of frustrating, meaningless lecture. Chances are you will have to take her class if you want to student teach, but if you have the opportunity, take Prof. Dyer or someone else because Davidman's class is a train wreck.
Fine teacher, but a little dry in the presentation. I wouldnt suggest having her at 8:00 in the morning, might be difficult staying awake.
