He has a really good attitude in lectures, his lectures are really easy and straight forward. 2 midterms and 2 hw were also easy. take him.

Kurt Colvin did a wonderful job explaining all the course material. His lectures prepared us very well for the tests he gave. I had him for both lecture and lab and he did a really good job in lab too.

Though the lectures were kind of boring at first, this was his first quarter of teaching this class. The lecture counts for half of the grade for this class, so I would recommend going to it and taking careful notes. On the midterm there were a couple questions on random things from the lecture that I couldn't recall, but basically if you pay attention in class and in the lab you will do fine. Take Kevo (K Williams) for lab, he is all about making sure you try to do the welds, and not necessarily if you do them well. Do NOT take Colvin for lab, he makes you turn in a lot of prelabs, so unless you like doing busy work, not a good idea.

I fell asleep in class way too many times and yet ended up with an A. Easy class, easy professor. Don't sweat it.

The lab for 144 is really cool. Colvin made it very clear what you need to do. The 3 class parts are: drafting, CAD, and machining. I never saw him get angry and was always ready to help. One of my best professors so far.

One of the best professors in the IME department. A lot of work required for this class, but it's fun stuff. Just do the assignments on time and look back to your pro/e book and things will go well.

Good Prpffesor for IME and I am glad I had him for lecture. I could of gotten a higher grade in the class but I always did some real dumb mistakes. Just double check ur work because if u are off by .001 then ur answer is wrong. This is afun class and pro_e is easy to use. Note: The free trial of pro_e expires so whenever u want to use it just change the days date on ur pc to when ur license is not expired and it will work. Anyways, doind the airmotors is awesome and this is one of the funnest classes that u can have in Cal Poly.

He's a pretty cool guy, and he explains things pretty well. There isn't much explanation needed for most of the things since the concepts are all pretty simple, but what there is, he does well. Overall a good professor, knowledgeable and easy to get along with.

Wow. Colvin seems like such a nice guy until you actually talk to him. In class he tells jokes and tries to be your friend, but if you go into office hours to talk to him about his mistakes on your grade he thinks you're trying to con him out of giving a student an F. Colvin is like a rotten apple, it may look nice on the outside, but inside it will make you really sick. Do not take Colvin.

His lectures were sometimes all over the place, but went way way WAY out of his way to help you out. i.e. He was in his office and willing to help me even when not his office hour, he provided photocopies of certain hw problems from the book (for those who did not buy the book). The midterm and final asked too many questions about everything (every little detail covered in lecture) but he does review, and those exams are pretty standard for this class. If lectures were not clear, he clarified in his office. He always welcomes students to ask questions, talks to everyone. If the class is lame it's how IME 144 is set up, not cuz of him.

Kolvin for IME 144 lecture = boring. He never did anything of importance, but i figure that is how it is for EVERY IME 144 lecture. The lab is where its at. So when finding a decent IME 144 class, find a good lab professor because thats where most of your time will be spent.

Colvin is an awesome teacher. No complaints at all. He is very nice, he finds time to help you with any questions you may have, although you probably won't have any because he's such a good teacher. This class was pretty easy, not very much work at all. The midterm and final were just review, as they should be.

Hands down, the best professor at Cal Poly. Kurt is down-to-earth, mellow, smart, a great presenter, and an even better person.

What the guy/gal below said. Amen. I too took this class and have long since graduated from Poly, but I was cruising Poly Ratings for a kick and thought that I should pipe in and let you know how much of a joke this prof is.

Dr. Colvin not only knows what he is talking about, but cares that you, too, know and understand. If you do all the reading and go to class and lab there is no reason that you should not get an A. He is very helpful in office hours and a truly refreshing professor to be around.

This was the first time he taught Simulation in a while...Freed usually teaches it but from what I heard, she's doesn't teach it that well. I'm glad I had colvin, I really felt I learned something and knowing ProModel will be useful in the real world. He was laid back, the midterm and final were open book open notes. The only thing that sucked about the class was the time (7:40am, eek. Not an early morning person). He's a real cool guy, you'll be glad he's the one teaching it and not Freed.

I had Dr.Colvin in his 7:40am class. He's probably one of the best professors I've ever had at Cal Poly. He's very patient and understanding. His homework assignments are not mandatory but recommended. His quizzes are very easy if you do the work. It's not a stressful class. Because he's easygoing with students' life, it's easy to get an A in this class. However, it's very easy to slack in his class since he doesn't force you to work.
